MEDICAID PATIENTS BEWARE! I had been going to VA Family Dentistry for approx 15 years and never had a single cavity. I recently qualified for Medicaid, which VA Family does not take. I chose G&G under the list of "not so desirable" options because it was an all women's practice. Made appointment for Xrays & routine cleaning. First impression: Staff was nice but all very young. My cleaning was not thorough, took all of 10 minutes, and my teeth did not look or feel clean afterwards. Dentist was wearing a mask and cap, so only her eyes were showing entire time. Never saw her face. She poked my teeth using sharp pick, telling very young assistant that I had SIX cavities. Zero to Six cavities in one year is extremely unrealistic, so I refused to have them filled until I got a second opinion. Made appointment for 2nd opinion dental exam at VA Family, which concluded ZERO cavities and from xrays, said I have "perfect" teeth. Was told that many Medicaid practices unfortunately take advantage of low income, and/or non English speaking families by performing unnecessary dental or medical work to collect more money from Medicaid. I am not accusing G&G for malpractice, but I left a voicemail message telling them I received a 2nd opinion, had zero cavities, and would not be returning to their practice. I'd also like to mention I was leary about the sterilization of the gloves and tools while in the dentist chair. I saw no signs of sterilization. Several days later I became very sick with flu like symptoms- sore throat, cough, congestion, body aches & chills. I cannot prove the cause, but I suspected it came from unsanitary practices. If you or your child are told you need dental work through a Medicaid provider, it is in your best interest to get a 2nd opinion. I'm glad I did.

Frequently Asked Questions About G&G Bright Diamonds Family Dentistry
How often should you see the dentist?
At G&G Bright Diamonds Family Dentistry, we generally recommend two dental visits per year for most patients. However, individuals with higher risk factors, such as those prone to periodontal disease, smokers, or diabetics, may require more frequent visits to our Midlothian, VA office. Our dentists will assess your specific needs and recommend an appropriate visit schedule.
What can I expect during my visit?
When you visit our Midlothian, VA practice, a typical appointment includes a professional cleaning, a comprehensive dental examination, and x-rays if necessary. Our dentist will carefully inspect your teeth, review your x-rays, and perform an oral cancer screening. We'll also discuss your health history, including any past dental issues, allergies, medications, chronic conditions, and recent medical events.
When is a crown needed?
Dental crowns serve multiple purposes. They're often required when a cavity becomes too large for a filling, helping to preserve the tooth's strength. Crowns can also protect weak teeth from fracturing or restore already fractured teeth. Additionally, they're used to safeguard teeth after root canal treatments, attach bridges, improve the appearance of discolored or misshapen teeth, and cover dental implants. For more information about crowns, please contact our Midlothian, VA office.
Am I a candidate for dental implants?
While many individuals are suitable candidates for dental implants, certain conditions may preclude their use. The final decision will be made collaboratively between you and your dentist at our Midlothian, VA practice. It's important to note that some health conditions, such as osteoporosis or uncontrolled diabetes, can affect healing and potentially lead to implant failure. We'll assess your individual case to determine the best course of action.
Does whitening work on all teeth?
Our dental professionals in Midlothian, VA have observed that teeth whitening is most effective on natural teeth with yellow discoloration. However, it's important to note that whitening treatments do not affect the color of dental work such as crowns, veneers, fillings, or bridges. For more detailed information about teeth whitening options, we encourage you to contact G&G Bright Diamonds Family Dentistry.
How do braces straighten teeth?
Braces function by applying consistent, gentle pressure to gradually move teeth into their correct positions. The primary components are brackets attached to each tooth and a main wire connecting them. The wire, shaped to reflect the ideal bite, exerts pressure on the teeth as it attempts to return to its original form. This pressure stimulates bone remodeling, allowing teeth to move. Elastics (rubber bands) may be used to apply additional force for bite correction. For optimal results, elastics should be worn as directed and replaced daily. To learn more about how braces can improve your smile, please contact our Midlothian, VA office.
How often should I visit G&G Bright Diamonds Family Dentistry for a dental check-up?
Most patients should visit twice a year, but high-risk individuals like smokers or diabetics may need more frequent visits.
What happens during a routine dental visit at G&G Bright Diamonds Family Dentistry?
The visit includes professional cleaning, dental exam, X-rays, oral cancer screening, and health history review.
When would I need a dental crown at G&G Bright Diamonds Family Dentistry?
Crowns are needed for large cavities, weak or fractured teeth, after root canals, to attach bridges, or to improve tooth appearance.
Am I a candidate for dental implants at G&G Bright Diamonds Family Dentistry?
Most people qualify for implants, but conditions like osteoporosis or uncontrolled diabetes might affect eligibility; your dentist will guide you.
Does teeth whitening at G&G Bright Diamonds Family Dentistry work on all teeth?
