LASIK eye surgery requires only topical anesthetic drops, and there is no need for stitches or bandages. During LASIK, each eye is treated independently, each procedure taking only about five minutes. LASIK is a relatively painless procedure, and the whole process typically lasts less than two hours. It will be necessary to have someone drive you home after the procedure. What Happens After LASIK? Your LASIK surgeon will send you home with antibiotic drops and anti-inflammation drops to put in your eyes at specific intervals after your LASIK procedure. To prevent your eye from becoming dry or irritated after surgery, you will have to use non-prescription wetting drops whenever needed. You should be able to drive, go to work, and enjoy most of your routine activities within a couple of days after surgery. You can bathe or shower, but avoid getting soap or water in your eyes for at least a week. After LASIK It would be best if you avoid wearing eye makeup for about one week after surgery. You should wear eye protection when working out or playing sports. If you plan to resume low-impact sports right after surgery, you must wait at least one to three days. If you plan to resume more vigorous sports, you must wait two to two and a half weeks and for contact sports at least four weeks. You should avoid rubbing your eyes for at least two weeks after LASIK surgery. Frequently Asked Questions If You’ve Got Questions. We’ve Got Answers! Every patient heals at a different rate; however, the majority of our patients achieve legal driving vision the very next day. Your vision will continue to improve with the final visual results being realized within a week to a few months. Dr. Crews uses the most technologically advanced excimer lasers that offer eye tracking capabilities to continually reposition the laser beam during your procedure. The laser detects and then compensates for small movements by guiding the beam to keep it precisely centered over the treatment area. Laser Vitreolysis Laser floater removal, also known as laser vitreolysis, is a non-invasive medical procedure designed to treat eye floaters. This technique uses a specially designed laser to target and vaporize the collagen molecules that make up the floaters, effectively breaking them into smaller, less noticeable fragments. At Crews LASIK & Cataract Center, the procedure is performed in the office and takes only a few minutes per eye. While laser vitreolysis won’t work for all types of floaters, laser vitreolysis can be an effective option for many patients who are significantly bothered by their floaters and prefer to avoid more invasive surgical alternatives.

What is Refractive Lens Exchange? Refractive lens exchange is a procedure that gets rid of presbyopia. It removes your stiffening natural lens and replaces it with an intraocular lens or IOL. The IOLs used in refractive lens exchange can give you a full range of vision with little need for glasses. These IOLs allow you to go from reading to looking across a field without any blurred vision. During refractive lens exchange, your surgeon removes your natural lens. They do this by first making an incision in your cornea, the outer layer of your eye. This incision allows them to access your natural lens, which sits behind your cornea. When they can reach the lens, they use an ultrasound device to break it into smaller pieces. After it gets broken down, they can remove your lens with gentle suction. Removing the lens gives them space to replace it with an IOL. They insert the IOL you’ve chosen into the cavity left by your natural lens. Then they close the corneal incision and send you home to recover. The IOL should give you better vision within a few days. It could even give you clear eyesight within a couple of hours after your procedure. Full recovery from refractive lens exchange is less than two months. But you should be able to get back to your everyday routine within two or three days. The Light Adjustable Lens The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is a revolutionary technology in ophthalmology, offering customizable vision correction. It utilizes a unique material that can be precisely adjusted post-implantation to refine visual acuity. Patients can experience improved vision without the need for additional surgeries. This dynamic adaptability sets a new standard in the field of cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange. Would you like to avoid reading glasses for the rest of your life? Schedule a consultation at Crews LASIK and Cataract Center in Vancouver, WA, to discuss refractive lens exchange. What are IOLs? Intraocular lenses or IOLs are artificial lenses used in refractive lens exchange. Before your procedure, your eye doctor will help you choose the best IOL for you. When you develop presbyopia, your natural lens can no longer elongate to focus on objects near your eyes. IOLs replace your natural lens to do the job it can no longer perform. The right IOL, like the PanOptix trifocal, Vivity, or Synergy, can give you good up-close sight as well as crisp intermediate and far vision. They allow you to read, knit, or look at your cell phone without glasses. Then with the same lens, you can also play golf or go to a concert without needing glasses. Premium IOLs like these give you true visual freedom. There is a chance you may need glasses to read food or prescription labels. But those are rare cases and should be the only times when you need visual aids. The PanOptix Trifocal IOL The PanOptix trifocal IOL is the first trifocal IOL available in the country. Most premium multifocal IOLs are bifocal, meaning they have two refractive rings. These rings are set into the lens and focus light at near and far distances. The PanOptix trifocal has a third ring in the lens, giving it a more extensive range of vision. Unlike other multifocal IOLs, the PanOptix trifocal also gives you focused intermediate vision. The extra refractive ring in the lens is set between the near and far rings. This third refractive ring makes the outer focal point longer than other IOLs and eliminates blurriness between focal points. These gaps in your vision between distances are the most common side effect of multifocal IOLs. Having three focal points means it can give you continuous vision from far away to up-close. All while producing no gaps between the distances. The PanOptix trifocal gives you distance, intermediate, and up-close vision. It eliminates your need for glasses no matter what you’re doing. If you are getting refractive lens exchange to end presbyopia, the PanOptix trifocal can give you more visual freedom than you may have ever had. The Vivity IOL The Vivity IOL is a non-diffractive extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOL. It is the first and only IOL of its kind. Rather than have focal points etched into the lens as in multifocal IOLs, the Vivity IOL has extended focal ranges. It gives you a field of clear vision with elongated focal points. This elongation is different than standard focal points, which are set to one distance. Set focal points like this also split the light entering your eye. Splitting light can cause small gaps in your vision. The Vivity IOL uses something called X-Wave technology to avoid these gaps. It bends and shifts the light entering your eye to eliminate the gaps created by other IOLs. This shifting of light gives you disturbance-free vision as you transition between distances.

What are Cataracts? A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s naturally clear lens. Your eye becomes like a window that is frosted or yellowed. As a result, light inside the eye is scattered before it can focus on the retina, and vision becomes blurry or dark. Some people begin experiencing the early effects of cataracts (such as a gradual loss of near vision) in their mid-40s. By age 65, a large percentage of us will develop a cataract, most often typified by cloudy/fuzzy vision and problems seeing in low-light environments. Developing a cataract doesn’t mean a permanent loss of vision quality, or having to give up the things you love, because cataract surgery is a safe, effective way to improve your vision. Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed surgery in the United States, with well Performed almost exclusively on an outpatient basis, cataract surgery is microsurgery, whereby the natural lens is removed and replaced with what is called an intraocular lens (IOL). The procedure is extremely successful and Dr. Crews is a highly skilled cataract surgeon who has helped thousands of patients with cataracts to regain their best vision in the Pacific Northwest including Vancouver, WA and Portland & Central Oregon. When is cataract surgery needed? Surgery to remove cataracts is indicated when blurred vision interferes with enjoyment of activities that are important to you. Cataract surgery may be needed if you have trouble reading, enjoying hobbies, reading street signs, or driving because of blurred vision or glare from headlights. Intraocular Lens Portland, OR What is an IOL? An intraocular lens (IOL) is the replacement lens that is surgically implanted in the eye to replace the existing clouded lens during cataract surgery. Cataract and lens implant surgery today is highly successful and very precise. Standard Monofocal IOLs A monofocal IOL is a fixed lens (it doesn’t move) that is designed to deliver improved vision at just one distance (usually far). The potential drawback is that after surgery, you will probably need to wear glasses for near vision, even if you didn’t wear glasses before surgery. Multifocal IOLs A multifocal lens uses multiple visual zones that are built into the lens itself to provide vision at various distances. It’s almost like the rings of a target, with some rings being dedicated to distance vision, while others are used for near vision, similar to having a bifocal or trifocal lens inside the eye. Accommodating IOLs As the name implies, an accommodating lens “flexes” or “accommodates” to focus on subjects at various distances, delivering a continuous range of vision at near, intermediate and far. Light Adjustable Lens The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is a revolutionary technology in ophthalmology, offering customizable vision correction. It utilizes a unique material that can be precisely adjusted post-implantation to refine visual acuity. Patients can experience improved vision without the need for additional surgeries. This dynamic adaptability sets a new standard in the field of cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange. PanOptix What makes PanOptix so special is its trifocal design. Unlike traditional monofocal IOLs that only correct vision at a single distance, PanOptix provides clear vision at three crucial distances: near, intermediate, and far. This means you can enjoy a fuller, more natural range of vision, significantly reducing your reliance on glasses for activities like reading, using digital devices, or simply appreciating distant views. Vivity The Vivity IOL is a groundbreaking intraocular lens (IOL) that has the potential to revolutionize the way you see the world. Vivity is designed to provide you with enhanced vision quality, particularly for those who may have experienced difficulties with intermediate vision, like using computers or reading price tags at the store. What sets Vivity apart is its innovative X-WAVE technology, which enables a broader range of vision.
