  Unfortunately, our experience with Addus was not positive. The primary issue was the quality, preparedness, and suitability of the caregivers assigned to my mother. One caregiver assigned to us appeared very inexperienced and spent much of her time sitting rather than actively engaging in or assisting with my mother's care. I tried to help by providing information about Alzheimer's care and explaining my mother's individual needs so the caregiver could become more comfortable and independent, but I still did not feel confident that I could step away and leave her to manage the care on her own. Another caregiver had concerning hygiene practices. On one occasion, after telling me she had been seeing other clients, she entered our home and began the shift without washing her hands until I prompted her to do so. She also came to our home for a shift while ill. This caregiver also had difficulty managing my mother's behavioral care needs. I made an effort to explain what worked for my mother and encouraged the caregivers to work independently, but I repeatedly found myself having to step in and intervene during hours when the agency caregiver was supposed to be providing the care. That was particularly frustrating because the entire purpose of having outside caregiving assistance was to have someone appropriately prepared to care for my mother so I could actually step away during those hours. Instead, I often felt that I still needed to remain available to supervise or intervene, which largely defeated the purpose of having agency assistance. Families relying on home care need caregivers who are attentive, practice basic infection-control precautions, are appropriately prepared for the client's needs, and can provide care independently once they have been oriented to that particular client. Unfortunately, that was not our experience with Addus, and we ultimately stopped using their services.

  There’s really no words…. They send people with NO training…NO instructions… it’s important to have communication and follow through… little to none. Just this morning i had yet another issue. I’ve already canceled Fridays altogether.. I’m going to look for another care giving outfit. This is absurd.

  Aging and long term care is way better . They have lazy caregivers at this agency who are not told the duties they are supposed to complete
