✨ The Vibe: Dancing in the Dark
I arrived in Bellevue doing what I sometimes do in a new city:
Scrambling.
Find parking.
Race the clock.
Rush.
Yeah.
That's how I rolled into yoga.
I was ready.
I walked into the dark yoga room.
Flopped down my mat.
And breathed.
Better already.
🌀 The Guide: Somaly • C2
Somaly welcomed us after a long work week with something we could probably all use:
Permission to unwind.
We began in Child's Pose.
Deep breaths.
Slowly made our way up.
Eventually…
Samasthiti.
Somaly offered an intention:
Let your originality come through.
Then we moved.
Sun B became a playful sequence:
Twisted Crescent Lunge + Eagle Arms.
Star Pose + Eagle Arms.
Then fluidly into Skandasana + Eagle Arms.
Smooth.
Rhythmic.
One movement feeding the next.
The flow gradually led toward Bound Half Moon.
Somaly demonstrated it with a strap.
We practiced it.
Then later…
there it was.
Woven naturally into the sequence.
🎶The music had a steady beat that organized everything:
Movement.
Breath.
Rhythm.
Then I heard a familiar song.
“Dancing in the Dark.”
A Bruce Springsteen cover.
(Went straight home and searched for it!)
I found the Cannons version.
Maybe that was it.
Maybe not.
But that's one of my favorite parts of exploring yoga studios:
New spaces.
New teachers.
New sounds.
New rhythms.
Something new enters your world.
Ahhhh.
I love that.
We practiced in the dark.
Moved to our own breath.
Found our own expression inside the flow.
And finally…
Savasana.
Somaly left us with this:
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.”
🤍 The Tribe
Friday evening energy.
People arriving at the end of a long week.
Unwinding.
Moving together.
Each in our own way.
🏙️ The Space & Place
From the street, CorePower Bellevue is bright & playful.
Colorful artwork across the windows.
Inside, a cozy seating area.
Then the yoga room:
Dark.
Warm.
Simple.
🌱 Field Note: Originality Needs Room
I arrived scrambling.
Then the room got dark.
The breath slowed.
The rhythm took over.
In between Somaly's invitation to unwind and her reminder to be who you are, I noticed something:
Maybe originality isn't something we have to create.
Maybe it's what comes through when we give ourselves enough room.
A dark room.
A steady beat.
Breathing.
Dancing in the dark.
And underneath all that noise…
just you.

Core power corporation needs to seriously evaluate this studios class cancellation policy. The class cancellation is so frequent and last minute. As a yoga studio, this is terrible! Sometimes the whole day of class just gets canceled in the weekend. Today, the noon class got canceled just an hour before the class. What the hell is this? How do people plan the day when you operate your business like this?

I am a CorePower member and travel for work. I've been to a number of the studios and it's always the teachers and staff that make a studio. At Bellevue, Emily made me feel very welcome. I'll definitely go back soon!
