About Dr. Kathie Carson, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Carson is the founder and owner of Carson Endodontics. She is a 1996 graduate of West Virginia University’s School of Dentistry where she stayed to complete her general practice residency. In 1997, Dr. Carson joined the United States Navy working as a dentist. In 2004 while in the Navy, she completed her Endodontic training at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School and continued her work as a US Navy Endodontist until leaving for private practice. Dr. Carson worked for 11 years as an associate for an endodontic practice in Virginia Beach until opening her own practice in Suffolk Virginia. She has been a resident of Suffolk for many years, and she supports the local community.
Dr. Carson became an endodontist because she has always had an interest in biology and pain management. Bacterial infection inside the tooth is one of the most common reasons for tooth pain. As an endodontist, she helps people in pain find relief while helping save their natural tooth.

He earned his endodontic certification in 2012.

During his residency, he was recognized in his endodontic residency for his research project, demonstrating the use of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) as a pulp capping and vital pulp therapy for children. This treatment removes painful, infected nerve tissue inside the tooth, relieving the immediate pain. A filling material is used to fill the canal. A crown is often needed to complete the treatment.
Endodontic Retreatment
Sometimes because of reinfection, the tooth and bone do not heal with initial normal treatment. The canal may need to be re-cleansed. It can also include pulling back the gums to take the infection out of the bone. A crown is often needed to complete the treatment.
Endodontic Microsurgery
This may include dividing a tooth in half, repairing an injured root, or even removing one or more roots. It can be used to treat damaged root surfaces or surrounding bone. Endodontic Microsurgery is used if the canal is too narrow and the instruments in the office can’t reach the entire infected area.
Traumatic Dental Injuries
If the tooth has moved out of position or is completely knocked out, an endodontist is needed to repair and try to save the tooth. A tooth that is completely knocked out has the chance to be restored within the first 60 minutes. Putting it in milk is really true!
Regeneration
Regenerative endodontics is in the leading edge of dental technology and research. To restore root canals to health, it uses tissue engineering.
