I am a former patient, seeking new treatments and was thrilled that I felt comfortable and supported and very welcomed just as I had several years ago!! The front desk staff are kind and efficient; the physician assistant was sweet and caring and attentive! The doctor I saw was very kind as well! I return in 9 weeks and feel confident in the care suggested and believe my feet will heal well!

Dr. Scripps couldn't have been any more attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. I've been dealing with chemo-induced neuropathy and the associated side effects for 5 years and I finally sought professional treatment. I now have hope that things (my feet) really can get better.

I have had two surgeries with Stafford location Doctor Derner. He did one surgery except the mortons neuroma part of my first surgery. The second one even though I saw doctor Derner his student did ALL of second surgery and the mortons neuroma portion of my first surgery. Student program at Inova Hoslital is Docfor Derners baby. He started the program and we are needed for practice. Kind of like the frog in science class when we were in school..The difference is we are people and we didn't come consult with a student we are his and his partners patients. We see Doctor Derner and his partners for a consult usually for people with complicated history too. I have a very very complicated history eith my foot because of very bad previous surgeries, and surgeons causing infections in my foot. Instead of doing my surgery himself my foot was already raw open and infected , he gave me to a 3rd year that did my entire surgery in 38 minutes. He damaged my foot feom a tournequet that should have never ever been used with my history. Derner did not even supervise. I confirmed with the hospital. The student messed yp my mortons neuroma portion of my first surgery, and messed up my foot entirely with the second. Despite infections wound debridments failed grafts, nothing has been as awful as what I have been left with from the surgery this student did. He was rude, arrogant and embarrassed me in recovery. I have 7 herniated disc's between cervical and lumbar spine, I have had 13 fractures and 9 surgeries from severe osteoperosis. I have a disintegrating spine, left hip. I have Lupus too. I see a pain management doctor for shots, Gabapentin, nerve ablation and sometimes pain medication too. I had not seen my pain management doctor in almost 5 months nor had I had a prescription for pain meds since september or October of the previous year. This was the following year at the end of February. The student yells out in the recovery bay that if I give you a script for pain meds to will cancel your pain management contract you do know that right!!!! I did not have a current script for pain medication 4 to 5 months maybe. And no other doctor prescribed surgical post op pain medication. I went gome with nothing for pain on top of my horrible surgery. So for the lovely student educate yourself before insulting a patient. And don't be so arrogant when your not even a good surgeon. Your incisions are sloppy. You cause a lot of soft tissue damage as well as nerve damage with clamping and retraction. Stitching is barbaric. Doctor Derner needs to be upfront with his patients. To everyone else don't sign anything at all in pre op bay. This is what they slip you to sign before surgery. You also will have a nurse anestatist for anesthesia now you can request Anesthesiologist only before hand it just may prolong your surgery a little bit. Also tell Derner and his partners whom ever you see you only want them to do your surgery. Student may only assist. He may try and make you feel bad don't let him. And NO you don't have to spend the night. Maybe super complicated surgeries otherwise no. And trust me when you get upstairs thats when the real hell begins. GO HOME. I am a year and a half out now and still can barely walk on my foot despite months of P.T. it will never be the same again. This is the worst damage and dysfunction I have ever had after foot surgery or any surgery. That's not what I signed up for. I deserved so much more, I deserved to have my surgery carefully done by the surgeon I came to see. I wasn't even considered enough for him to be in the O.R. Shame on you. Doctor Derner. Do better by your patients they trusted you. .
