Frequently Asked Questions About University Health Breast Center
How do I schedule a mammogram or breast imaging appointment at University Health Breast Center?
To schedule at the Breast Center (Robert B. Green campus) call 210-644-2900. To schedule mobile mammography (healthyUexpress) for a workplace or event call 210-358-7020. You can also use University Health’s general scheduling resources for non-urgent appointments via their Schedule an Appointment page.
Do I need a physician referral to get a screening mammogram?
In most cases you can schedule a screening mammogram through University Health without a physician order, but some insurance plans or age groups may require a referral. If you are age 35–39 or your insurer requires it, please talk with your doctor about obtaining a referral before scheduling.
How should I prepare for my mammogram or mobile mammography appointment?
Wear a separate top and bottom (so you only remove your top for the exam) and avoid using powder, lotion or perfume on your chest/breast area. Bring your insurance card and any information about your referring physician. If you have prior mammogram images from another facility, bring them or arrange for them to be sent for comparison.
How long will the appointment take and when will I get my results?
A screening mammogram appointment typically takes about 30 minutes, including registration. Timing for results varies by exam type and clinical review; some patients may receive results the same day, while others may receive them within a few business days. Your care team will explain what to expect at your visit.
Who reads my mammogram and what imaging/services are offered?
Breast imaging exams are interpreted by fellowship-trained breast radiologists. Services offered at the University Health Breast Center include 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, and image-guided diagnostic procedures such as stereotactic biopsies. When additional evaluation or care is needed, patients may be referred within University Health’s broader breast care programs.
Am I eligible for mobile mammography and is financial assistance available?
Mobile mammography (healthyUexpress) is intended for screening exams and eligibility is based on age, screening history and clinical criteria. Financial assistance programs may be available for qualifying patients. Call the scheduling numbers listed above for eligibility details.
