  I’m very disappointed with my recent experiences at KED. When this location operated as BPL, I regularly donated without significant issues and typically completed my donation within 30–38 minutes. Since the transition to KED, my experiences have been noticeably different. I have been told that I am a “hard stick,” but I did not experience these repeated difficulties when donating at BPL. On multiple occasions, staff have had difficulty locating or accessing my vein, resulting in unsuccessful sticks and bruising. On one occasion, I was deferred because of blood loss following an unsuccessful attempt. My most concerning experience was with a phlebotomist named Bertha. After the initial stick was unsuccessful, she moved the needle around in an attempt to locate my vein. I found this extremely uncomfortable and was left with bruising afterward. I was then unable to complete my donation and was deferred because of the blood loss from the attempt. What concerned me even more was what Bertha said to me during the interaction. She told me, “If a professional with over 10 years of experience couldn’t find your vein, how would you expect me to find it?” I found that comment extremely dismissive. Instead of reassuring me or addressing what was happening, it came across as if the difficulty was simply being blamed on me being a “hard stick.” I understand that some donors can be difficult to access and that unsuccessful venipunctures can happen. However, the frequency of these issues has been significantly different from my experience at this same location under BPL. I hope KED takes this feedback seriously and reviews its phlebotomy training, venipuncture practices, and how staff communicate with donors. Donors should feel safe, respected, and confident that their concerns are being taken seriously.

  Communication is lacking. Recommend giving new donor payment information in writing. Also don’t call a donor a “new donor” if they are not. If you’ve been to bpl you may get new donor fees but you are not considered a new donor.

  It was decent quick and efficient the washroom didn't have soap and the machines are pretty old they use scotch tape 😔 but overall quick I'm referring some family; just be sure to get to the center early
