We were referred to Dr. Mahal in January 2025. During that appointment, my husband explained the symptoms he had been experiencing. After evaluating him, Dr. Mahal told him that everything was fine and that his symptoms were normal. No bloodwork or additional testing was ordered. We left the appointment feeling reassured and trusting that there was nothing seriously wrong. A few months later, another physician became concerned about my husband’s bloodwork and strongly recommended that we see a urologist. We were referred to Dr. Owens, and after a lengthy wait to get an appointment, we received devastating news: my husband had cancer. Looking back, many of the symptoms he was experiencing in January were consistent with the diagnosis he later received. Because no bloodwork or further testing was performed at that time, an opportunity for earlier detection may have been missed. As a result, my husband ultimately had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery. We understand that medicine is not always straightforward and that no doctor can guarantee a diagnosis. However, we believe our concerns should have been investigated more thoroughly given the symptoms that were present. We share our experience in hopes that others will advocate for themselves, ask questions, and seek a second opinion when something doesn’t feel right.
