When I went into the office of Jose. A. Gonzalez, I was greeted by a front desk lady who worked with Dr. Gonzalez and briefed me on how my insurance worked since I was trying to find a financial route where it wouldn’t be expensive for my parents. She ended up working out with my private insurance company for a co-pay price, and was very transparent with how the whole system worked and how many consultation visits I was allowed before they would start over charging the regular health care price out of pocket. Afterwards, we agreed on a telephone call for two sessions, which then I proceeded to talk about my personal life with my parents, my history, and my struggles academically and how effected my performance with medical diagnosis on my condition. He was very thorough with my psychology and empathizing my specific needs, to the point where he even recommended I revisit him with my parents since he diagnosed the stem of my problems in my personal life back to parenting styles and how it effected my childhood, providing helpful anecdotal experiences from his perspective that borderline, encouraged to find the good in life and that a lot of the problems I experienced could have been worked out if I was more verbal and talked to my parents, to which I am now. My parents and I are on way better terms and he provided a concrete and professionally medical diagnosis which I completely agreed with, and I was able to be accommodated for my student services disabilities at the University of Texas at Austin thanks to Dr. Jose A. Gonzalez’s letter. I just wish the receptionist sent a pdf of the letter. My experience may differ completely from others but he met my needs and expectations completely for what I was going in for and hoping. Reading the reviews left by others, it hurts to see how Dr. Gonzalez treats the opposite sex from their perspective, so I hope nothing but the best for Dr. Gonzalez to console his patients and offer an apology and improve not only his practice, but himself with due time.

I had an awful experience with Mr. Gonzalez. I booked a session with him to talk about my depression and binge eating. He talked for 98% of the session and gave advice completely out of his scope of practice before he even allowed me to talk about my struggles. It was a virtual visit and he made assumptions about my life that were completely incorrect and then proceeded to talk about how it related to HIS life. Instead of listening with empathy he went on and on about things in HIS childhood. He recommended I consider his interpretation of the bible and that if I chose to have more children they would resent me. This was a direct attack on something a mother already fears. Family planning is a deeply personal matter and is between a husband and wife and their doctor. I had to defend my beliefs within the first five minutes. He then went on to ask if I needed parenting advice and I said no, that I am confident in my parenting. But he proceeded to give me advice anyway. Before even listening to what I may need to work on. He suggested 1 2 3 Magic and I told him I had already read it. His advice wasn't bad but it was in no way applicable to my life. Then I wanted to talk a little about my binge eating. I told him I have done restrictive dieting in the past and it leads to me bingeing. Since it was a virtual visit, he had 0 insight to my body composition and other health data like blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. But once I told him my weight he went on to suggest not 1, but 3 diets. Keto, Atkins, and IF. I tried to stop him to tell him I have tried Keto and it lead to severe anxiety and insomnia (which is common in women since Keto dieting leads to low magnesium). But he went on to explain Keto to me anyway. I should have just hung up. Why would someone with a binge eating issue do more restrictive dieting? He then suggested getting rid of "treats" that I probably have around for the kids. I was baffled. Why am I explaining to this guy that we DON"T have treats in the house. We don't allow snacks other than pretzels and veggies and fruit. I was so hurt and infuriated. I needed help and support for depression and binge eating and this man pretty much fueled those issues even more. Without hearing anything about my life (besides my faith) he suggested drastic changes to my (a) method of family planning, (b) marriage, (c) diet, (d) faith, and (e) parenting. If I could give negative stars I would.

Falls asleep during sessions, and talks about what type of cars he wants to lease. He doesn't recognize the proper diagnosis and won't address everything as beeded. He needs to learn how to recognize what's going on when it's verbally being said what is wrong.
