I really enjoy going to Pilates and have loved the classes, but unfortunately, the studio’s policies are extremely strict and no room for flexibility or understanding. They do not make adjustments when unexpected situations come up. For example, if you get sick, you essentially have to attend your class or lose the credit. When I asked to move a class because I was sick, I was asked to provide a doctor’s note. The reality is that nobody knows they’re going to be sick 12 hours in advance, and it’s not always possible to see a doctor on such short notice. As a working mom, life can be unpredictable, and I found myself feeling like I had to rush to class no matter what because I didn’t want to lose the credit. That made the experience stressful rather than enjoyable. Unfortunately, the cancellation policy was the final issue for me. When I decided to cancel my membership, I was told I needed to provide 30 days’ notice. My notice date fell on a weekend, and because I wasn’t able to submit it that weekend, I was charged for another full month. I understand the need for policies, but I think there should be some reasonable flexibility and consideration for situations like illness or a cancellation date falling on a weekend. I love Pilates, but the policies made me feel like the customer experience was secondary to enforcing the rules. For that reason, I ultimately decided to cancel my membership.

I love Club Pilates and have generally had a great experience, but I wanted to share some feedback about the experience of working moms in the event this helps anyone considering joining. I had one of the busiest Mondays at work and was really looking forward to decompressing at Pilates. After rushing through work and getting family taken care of, I rushed to class as quickly as I could and arrived at 6:36, literally one minute past the five-minute grace period. The instructor, Rustam, wouldn’t let me into the class, which is certainly his prerogative, and I understand that policies exist for a reason. That said, I do think both the policies and the individual instructors matter when it comes to creating a welcoming experience. As a working mom, sometimes getting to class requires juggling a dozen things just to carve out one hour for myself. I completely understand the need for policies, but I also think there should be some room for judgment and grace when someone is just one minute outside the grace period. I really enjoy Club Pilates and will continue to go, but I hope the studio considers how its policies are applied and how much the instructor’s approach can impact a member’s experience. A little flexibility and kindness can go a long way, especially for working parents who are already doing their best to make time for themselves.
