This is the most unprofessional dentist office! They do shady billing and try to say your insurance won't cover certain items, so they don't file the claim for the items. They charge you full price for the items they don't file the claim for. When you call them out on not filing they claim, Joann says she has to file a paper claim now and it takes 45 days. That is BS! I have been trying to get reimbursed since January this year and they give you the run around and blame my insurance company. Even had a conference call with my insurance company and Joann that does the billing because my insurance wanted to know why they didn't file the claim. The dentist is a whole different story as well! He comes in, doesn't speak to you, gets an attitude with the dental assistant and degrades her constantly because she isn't moving as fast as he thinks she should. Doesn't explain what he is going to do and is aggressive while working in your mouth.

I had a root canal done by this dentist about 3 years ago. It was an incredibly terrible experience, not from the root canal, but from the dentist himself. He was unprofessional and rude the entire time. He was so miserable that the dental hygienist felt the need to privately apologize to me for his behavior. (The hygienists here are wonderful and incredibly strong for working with this man.) The crown he put on was very uncomfortable, but after excessive filing with no change on my discomfort he told me it would “settle” overtime. It has been uncomfortable and painful since that. Overtime, the pain got to the point I recently made an emergency appointment at a more experienced dental office and found out the root canal this dentist did was not completed properly and has caused further infection. Also the cap was never put on properly, which has ruined the remaining tooth underneath. Dr. Risinger did not listen to me when I told him the cap was not all the way down, and three years later I have that confirmed. Both the new dentist and endodontic specialist I have seen commented, unprompted, that Dr Risingers root canal did not look like it was done correctly. And due to his negligence or inability to do his job correctly, my tooth needs to be extracted. Additionally, after reading some of the reviews here I feel it’s important to mention that his dental office refused to bill my insurance for a pulp cap, that was added to the bill only after the procedure was done. The office insisted that it wouldn’t be covered anyway. Dr. Risingers office made me pay out of pocket the day of, then refused to bill my insurance for the pulp cap even after being asked to by the insurance company directly. Please do not go to Dr. Risingers. He has terrible bedside manner and does not do good work. There is nothing “advanced” about this dental officer.

I was ripped off by Athens Advanced Dental. I'm a 100% disabled veteran, therefore my family Delta Dental insurance is a government employee DOD plan. Athens Advanced Dental charged me over $2,000 for my portion of there bill. I paid in full without question. When I received the EOB (explanation of benefits) from Delta Dental I was shocked to see that my portion was less than $700. When I presented Athens Advanced Dental with the fact that I was overcharged by more than $1,500, they rewrote the bill, adding miscellaneous billing codes, and states that they only owe me $200. I think that constitutes fraud from the federal government. I have reported them to Delta Dental the theft of federal funds and will soon be contacting the DA and local law enforcement to address accountability since Athens Advanced Dental still hasn't reimbursed me anything. I have all of the evidence to prove everything I said. Legacy Dental Group out of Canton Texas is an awesome reputable dental office if you need somewhere else to go. Legacy Dental removed three wisdom teeth for less than Athens Advanced charge for one wisdom tooth and were much more professional and kind throughout the process

I recently switched to Athens Advanced Dental, and the experience has been completely different from my previous dentist. From my first visit, I felt heard, respected, and genuinely cared for. Dr. Risinger took the time to listen to my concerns and clearly explained my treatment options, including the differences between a root canal and an implant, so I could make an informed decision. With the costs associated with both, I had many questions for Joann— bless her! She patiently went over insurance coverage, my estimated portion, and payment options, including CareCredit if needed after my HSA payment. I felt confident moving fwd with treatment. Karen was knowledgeable and offered a recommendation based on my complaint of sensitive teeth. The entire office was professional, welcoming, and focused on patient care rather than rushing the appointment. Highly recommend.
