- RSRevis SparkmanMay 4, 20262.0This industry has gotten really bad throughout the years. This company is a perfect example. All the negative reviews mirror my experience with Nsm. To summarize it's too much red tape (bureaucratic). I say industry because it's the manufacturer, supplier, insurance companies etc. The problem is we have less choice due to many companies being acquired or closing over the years. The consumer/customer are the ones who were hurt. I currently have no chair to use until mine is repaired and they have no answers as well as any other supply company called. This would have never happened 15 years ago, back then they always had answer/solution and were far more empathetic. I only call when I absolutely have too. Hopefully in the future I can start a non profit and help you guys going through similar situations. That's my ultimate goal

Any time we’ve needed equipment repair or troubleshooting help we’ve been taken care of in a timely manner and even same day at times. We’ve worked with Assistive Technology Specialist, Brian C. for most of our son’s fittings, equipment ordering, and deliveries over the years. Brian has always been super knowledgeable about a variety of equipment and options/features/accessories, which has added reassurance knowing he is able to offer the best custom solutions for our son’s needs. Recently our son’s health declined changing his physical and medical needs drastically. Knowing his life expectancy is short and insurance processing can take up to 4 months for certain custom equipment, Brian went above and beyond working with Vanderbilt Peds Rehab to find a quick solution. Because of Brian’s compassion and care, our son now has a reliable, safe wheelchair that suits his needs and affords him access to the community. This has given us great comfort knowing our son won’t be confined to our home. Their kindness and efforts have given our son the ability to get out of the house safely and supported during what may be his last days of life. We are so very grateful for Brian making this happen.

How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?

Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
