I have been to Club Pilates on Memorial Blvd, purchased a membership and paid in full. I had an unfortunate experience. What lead me to join the pilates program was a year prior I had fallen down the stairs and sustained a back injury. I had been seeing a PT and chiropractor for well over a year, and a friend had mentioned pilates. So, I contacted Club Pilates for a visit, at that time I was a student and working full time. The staff member I spoke with shared that they offered student discounts. I attended the class and it was amazing. I definitely felt like I had a proper deep stretch, so I decided to sign up. I shared with the staff that I was a current student, when it was time to pay I provided my HSA card which I used as a form of payment at my local gym. The staff member stated, I’m sorry we don’t take EBT. I was confused because the card had HSA Bank and my employer name on the card (the card color was green, blue and white). Baffled, I stated it’s not EBT, could you try it. The card did not work and I provided her with my debit card. Fast forward, I called to freeze my membership because I was finalizing my research and preparing for my oral defense which was the final comprehensive exam for school. Due to the upcoming month being chaotic with exams and the following month preparing for graduation, I felt it was best. When I called and spoke with a staff member, I noticed on my account that I had not received the student discount, she stated she will get with management and follow up. She called back and stated that they were no longer offering that discount, I shared it was discussed during sign up. At that point I asked about freezing my account for two months they stated they would have to speak with management and get back to me. The staff member called back but it wasn’t about the freezing my membership, they stated my monthly payment had declined, I stated that that was impossible. I did take the opportunity to follow up and ask about freezing my account. Then, I checked my account and no draft had been attempted. While on that call, we discovered when my account was setup my HSA card number was stored and not my personal debit card, which was a human error. Well later that weekend day the manager calls me, which could have waited until Monday. Initially, she was civil but once I did not agree with paying monthly for classes I am unable to attend for a brief time span, she literally started yelling. I did ask her to lower her voice, because this was a clerical error by her staff, and not due to insufficient funds. She threatened to send me to collections. I shared with her that I have no problem with providing my card information as I had previously, if my membership could be frozen due to school obligations because I really would love to attend the classes. I have a perfect credit score, so I provided my payment information and paid for two months of classes I never had the opportunity of attending and cancelled my membership. I will accept accountability and say maybe it was not the best time to sign up due to my obligations but I was trying to prioritize my health. Club Pilates as a company that provides a health and fitness services there should be some compassion for life situations. Even gym membership allow you to freeze, and that’s only a $10-30/ month, and pilate memberships are $100+/month. In spite of this unfortunate experience, God has blessed me in other areas, I graduated with my Ph.D, landed a promotion and there has been improvements with recovering from back injury.
