Great experience! The app is very user friendly and helps you stay organized as a parent (especially with multiple kids that are seen at Laurelwood). The nurse questions text feature is helpful and practical.

We have been coming here since moving back to Memphis and have had nothing but great experiences with everyone that works here. We see Dr. Magdovitz and she has been great to our family.

First off, I want to be super clear that we LOVE Dr. Lana and her nurses.
However — the front office, billing, and whoever manages medical records have been terrible over the past 9 months. Multiple appointments didn’t get submitted to insurance and we were forced to pay almost $800 for ONE visit. Only after we paid did they say, “we’ve been having issues with our third party billing company. You can call them, but other people with similar issues have not been getting responses. We can at least get you a credit for what you paid today.”
Last, we needed our toddler’s medical records shared with TEIS. All the appropriate paperwork was filled out, but Laurelwood was dragging their feet. Over the course of 2 months, I called 4 different times, asked in person, and messaged through the patient portal. TEIS also called multiple times and visited in person at least twice to request the records. Medical records were never shared with TEIS - we had to download a pdf of records via the patient portal.
These behaviors do not align with the level of care we hope to have for our children and actively cause more stress for us as parents. I’m really disappointed that we are now looking for a new pediatrician even though we love our doctor.

Dr. Magdovitz and Nurse Felicia have been so helpful in caring for my girls. They are quick to respond and take every detail I have into consideration when helping me make health decisions for my daughters. Dr. Magdovitz helped me navigate and diagnose a life threatening allergy with my oldest. Her expertise, calm demeanor and support were exactly what I needed during a very scary season when I was learning how to advocate for my daughter with specialists and during hospital visits. But even during routine appointments, they are thorough and attentive, reassuring and a pleasure to visit. I cannot say enough great things about their practice!
Frequently Asked Questions About Laurelwood Pediatrics
Do you take my insurance?
We likely accept your insurance plan. Our practice works with most commercial insurance providers, including BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, United, Tricare, and many others. If you're unsure about your specific plan, please call our office to confirm. Please note that we aren't TennCare providers, and Tennessee state law prohibits us from seeing children covered by TennCare, even if you're willing to pay out-of-pocket.
Does Laurelwood Pediatrics accept non-vaccinated patients?
Our physicians at Laurelwood Pediatrics firmly believe in the importance of timely and complete childhood vaccinations. Because of our commitment to this health practice, we don't accept new patients whose parents decline to vaccinate their children.
Do you take xrays?
We don't provide x-rays in our office. While some x-rays are straightforward, many require interpretation by a specialized pediatric radiologist. When your child needs an x-ray, we'll refer you to a radiologic facility that works with your insurance plan. Most x-rays can be completed promptly with quick results, though more complex procedures may need to be scheduled a few days in advance. We'll help guide you through this process.
Can I see my own pediatrician when I come in to the office?
We understand the importance of the doctor-patient relationship and strive to ensure your child sees their regular pediatrician whenever possible. For checkups, scheduling with your pediatrician is typically easy, though we recommend planning a couple of months ahead to secure your preferred date and time. For sick visits, seeing your regular doctor is usually possible, but same-day appointments later in the day might be with another physician in our practice.
How long will I have to wait at the office when I come for an appointment?
We respect your time and work to minimize wait times, which typically range from 10-30 minutes. During this period, we're verifying your insurance coverage to prevent unexpected billing issues, our medical assistant is gathering important information about your visit, and we're beginning appropriate screenings for your child. Occasionally, unexpected situations with other patients may cause delays, and we appreciate your patience when these circumstances arise.
What is early morning clinic?
Our early morning walk-in clinic operates from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, specifically for sick children. No appointment is necessary during these hours. On exceptionally busy mornings, some patients may be offered later appointments. For chronic conditions, we recommend scheduling with your regular doctor. If your child becomes ill and you prefer a same-day appointment, you're welcome to call our office for a time later in the day.
Can I walk in without an appointment?
We accept walk-ins without additional charges only during our early morning hours from 8:00-8:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. For all other times, we ask that you call ahead to schedule an appointment.
What if my child is sick on his checkup day?
Ideally, we prefer to schedule checkups and sick visits separately. However, when this isn't possible and your child requires treatment for a medical issue during a checkup, your insurance may be billed for both services. For minor illnesses, we can often proceed with the checkup as planned. If your child seems too unwell for scheduled vaccines, we can complete the checkup and arrange for you to return for vaccinations at a later date.
How do I contact you in case of emergency?
For emergency situations during nights or weekends, simply call our regular office number (901.683.9371). Our answering service will arrange for one of our nurses to contact you promptly.
Is telephone advice available and is there a charge for this service?
We understand that new parents often have questions. During office hours, a nurse is available to address routine concerns. You can easily submit questions through our patient portal, and our team will get back to you. Nurses are also available after hours for more urgent matters. While these basic services are provided at no charge, certain telephone consultations with your pediatrician are considered medical encounters and may be billed to your health plan. Your financial responsibility will depend on your specific insurance coverage.
