In the complex world of health and wellness, traditional medicine can be instrumental in diagnosing and treating a wide array of conditions. However, it can fall short of unearthing the underlying issues, tending to focus more on alleviating symptoms than exploring root causes. This can sometimes leave individuals in a cycle of ongoing discomfort and less-than-optimal health. Functional medicine is an innovative, patient-centered approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease. Through a deep examination of an individual’s lifestyle, diet, and genetic predispositions and through developing a targeted treatment plan, we can foster optimal health in your body. At Knox Wellness in Knoxville, TN, we want to take care of your whole body and promote wellness in every area of your life. Through our functional medicine, we can blend state-of-the-art technology with cutting-edge research to create personalized health plans. What Is Functional Medicine? Functional medicine is an approach that looks deeply at any aspect of your life that could be affecting your physical or mental well-being. During our appointments, we don’t simply look at your symptoms. We look at your whole health history, your environment, your genetic makeup, and much more. Functional and lifestyle medicine involves advanced diagnostic testing to find any underlying causes that may be contributing to your poor health. We can then develop the right treatment plan that will help support your body’s natural ability to heal itself. What Conditions Can We Treat With Functional Medicine? Oncology Support Functional medicine can play a vital role in oncology support, working in tandem with conventional treatments to help manage side effects and improve overall well-being. It seeks to enhance the body’s resilience through targeted nutritional strategies, lifestyle modifications, and personalized interventions designed to support the body’s healing processes. Chronic Pain Chronic pain can often linger far beyond when the original cause has already healed. We can help treat chronic pain through innovative treatments such as ketamine infusions or by finding and treating the root cause of your pain. Anxiety and Depression At our clinic, we focus on mind-body medicine that takes your whole person into account. Because the mind and body are so intimately connected, it is important to consider both when seeking solutions for anxiety, depression, or other mood disorders. Diabetes While certain medications can be important for managing diabetes, traditional medicine may not adequately support your body. Through nutrition, supplementation using natural herbs that help regulate blood sugar, glutathione infusions, and personalized exercise plans, we can help you to stay on top of your diabetes and blood sugar management. Gut Health Poor gut health can often be seen through the symptoms of abdominal pain, bloating, reflux, a weak immune system, constant fatigue, and more. However, there can be many different causes of poor gut health. Through our functional nutrition and treatment plans, we can test for any imbalances in your body and create a plan that may include antimicrobials, probiotics, enzymes, and more to help your gut regain its health. Hormone Imbalances Hormone imbalances can cause many different symptoms such as night sweats, fatigue, low libido, irritability, and trouble sleeping. Whether you are going through menopause or andropause, or there are other reasons for your hormonal imbalance, we can help to restore your health and energy through treatments such as bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Functional Medicine Services Comprehensive Health Assessments The first step in personalized medicine involves a thorough health assessment. Through this process, we delve deep into your health history, lifestyle habits, diet, exercise routines, stress levels, and any past or current health concerns. Advanced Laboratory Testing and Analysis Following your initial health assessment, we may recommend advanced laboratory testing for a more in-depth analysis of your health. This might involve examining various biomarkers, such as hormones, to uncover hidden imbalances. Genetic testing may be performed to understand inherited health risks. Tests for mold toxicity, Lyme disease, or other specific conditions might also be conducted based on your symptoms and health history. These tests help us delve deeper into your unique biochemistry, facilitating more precise identification of root causes of health issues and helping us develop a more personalized medicine plan.

We also can do extensive labs and diagnostics to rule out hormonal imbalances or other causes for those suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, bipolar depression, and more. Autoimmune Disorders Accurate diagnosis is the first step to treating autoimmune disorders. Our advanced testing helps us to ensure that we know everything we need to know about your health history, your genetics, and more. Once we know what you are dealing with, we can offer treatment for many different diseases including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, fibromyalgia, MTHFR gene mutations, and more. Cancer Support and Management While conventional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation are often necessary for cancer care, integrative health can play a crucial role in support and management. We incorporate nutritional therapy and alternative medicine practices to aid in managing side effects, improving quality of life, and enhancing overall wellness during and after cancer treatment. Preventative Care for General Health Preventative care lies at the heart of integrative medicine. Our approach, encompassing nutrition, physical activity, and regular screenings, promotes good health and disease prevention. We work alongside individuals to understand their health risks and create personalized strategies that support their long-term well-being. What Do Our Treatments Look Like? Consultation The first step to integrative treatments is a comprehensive consultation. This is an opportunity for us to understand your health history, current lifestyle, concerns, and goals. This process sets the groundwork for a personalized treatment plan. Labs and Testing After the consultation, we might perform labs and other advanced diagnostic testing to gain a deeper understanding of your health status. This can include genetic testing, hormonal testing, nutrient testing, heavy metal testing, mold, and bio-toxin illness testing, Lyme and tick-borne illness testing, gut and stool testing, and more. Treatment Plan Once we’ve gathered all the necessary information, we’ll create a personalized treatment plan. Whether we are recommending diet and lifestyle changes, medication, or other treatments, we will make sure you understand your plan and have all of the support you need.

A cancer diagnosis can be emotionally devastating, and the medical treatments to send cancer into remission are often physically draining. However, at Knox Wellness Experience in Knoxville, TN, we believe in treating the whole patient, not just their cancer. Please keep reading to learn more about our therapies to provide integrative cancer support. What Is Integrative Cancer Support The focus on destroying cancer cells often leaves patients feeling drained emotionally and physically. In addition, it carries risks and side effects that, for many patients, are almost harder to endure than the illness itself. This is where integrative support comes in. Integrative Medicine Explained Integrative practitioners believe in the body’s innate ability to heal itself, and they work to facilitate natural healing processes. It is characterized by a desire to treat the whole patient, not just symptoms. In fact, for many patients, a visit to a holistic provider is the first time someone attempts to uncover the root cause of those symptoms. Holistic care often includes the use of natural treatments and alternative therapies. However, not all integrative medicine uses alternative methods. At Knox Wellness Experience, we combine functional medicine with holistic care practices. Traditional Cancer Treatments We do not discourage patients from seeking modern medical treatments for their cancer. On the contrary, we offer support to help patients complete these treatments with the best possible results and manageable side effects. Chemotherapy and radiation are the two most common forms of cancer treatments. They are both considered effective at destroying cancer cells and facilitating periods of remission. However, the ability to direct treatment to only cancer cells is still limited. Therefore, patients are left struggling with side effects that may include: Fatigue and exhaustion Nausea Trouble sleeping Disruptions to appetite Decreased body temperature Susceptibility to colds and illnesses due to reduced immune function The Role of Integrated Oncology Support The severity of the side effects can leave patients frustrated and ready to give up. However, integrative support treatments like those offered at Knox Wellness Experience may help to reduce discomfort and improve treatment outcomes. How It Works Our integrative cancer support works as a complement to your cancer treatments. Some modalities are designed to decrease side effects and help improve quality of life. Others work to support and strengthen immune function, so your body can better destroy cancer cells — and hopefully keep them from returning. One of the most appreciated aspects of our treatments is that they do not damage any tissue. This is often a welcome relief for patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Instead, they help the body function more efficiently and effectively. Consider these treatments we offer and how they can help you on your journey to healing. High Dose Vitamin C Vitamin C has been studied as a therapeutic against cancer for many years, although its use has not been without controversy. However, newer information emerging shows that it may help improve outcomes such as quality of life for those undergoing chemotherapy. One crucial factor to consider with vitamin C therapy is the delivery method. Very high doses are needed to target cancer cells, but they cannot be achieved through oral administration. That is why we offer IV infusions of high-dose vitamin C. It can reach — and potentially compromise — cancer cells at these levels. Vitamin C is widely regarded as safe, even at these high doses. IV Ozone Therapy Ozone is comprised of three oxygen atoms, making it an efficient way to increase oxygen levels within the body. IV infusions of ozone can act as a booster to reinvigorate oxygen-starved blood. In addition, it is associated with improvements in circulation, immune system function, and resistance to infection. Some patients also find that it helps reduce inflammation and soreness. Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation Ultraviolet blood irradiation is commonly administered with Ozone therapy. Unlike the radiation used in traditional cancer treatments, UBI exposes a small portion of your blood to ultraviolet light. This works against pathogens in the blood, such as bacteria and viruses, and supports stronger immune function. It may be helpful to think of UBI as a sort of generalized vaccine that allows your body’s own immune system to work more efficiently. UBI also improves circulation and oxygenation levels in the blood, which may help weaken cancer cells. In this way, it works to support your other cancer treatments.

IV Infusion Services We Offer IV PTC Phosphatidylcholine (PTC) is a phospholipid (a substance containing phosphorus and essential fatty acids) that is found naturally in the body. It is a source of choline that plays an important metabolic and structural role in the function of all living cells. Some conditions that respond well to IV PTC include: Aging Alzheimer’s Cancer Fertility Parkinson’s Pregnancy Ozone Therapy Ozone therapy is a medical treatment for energizing the bloodstream. While your body naturally receives oxygen through the lungs, a dose of ozone can breathe new life into oxygen-starved blood. Some other potential benefits of receiving ozone treatments include: Stimulation of white blood cells Strengthening of the immune system Increased circulation Purification of the bloodstream Protection from the formation of cancers Increased resistance against infections, bacteria, and fungi Combined Ozone Treatment with UBI we also offer UBI (ultraviolet blood irradiation) treatments, which use ultraviolet light to weaken bacteria and viruses in the bloodstream. While you can choose to receive IV ozone treatments on their own, we recommend combining this therapy with UBI treatment to optimize your overall health. The benefits of UBI may include: Increased immune system response Reduced tissue pain Improved circulation Improved metabolism Stimulation of new blood cells Vitamin Infusions Vitamin infusions are high-dose cocktails of different vitamins and minerals that are delivered to the body intravenously. While vitamins can be orally ingested, many individuals are not able to absorb them orally because of food sensitivities, indigestion or other digestive difficulties. Vitamin infusions are a great way to quickly absorb a variety of healing nutrients. Vitamin C Unfortunately, humans cannot create this Vitamin C on their own, so it needs to be ingested through the foods and beverages we consume. This infusion can help increase a patient’s resistance to infections and diseases, helping improve their overall wellness and quality of life. It has also been used to treat: Asthma Diabetes Hypertension Gout Glaucoma Seasonal allergies Glutathione Another powerful antioxidant, Glutathione infusions are another effective way to improve a patient’s overall health and resistance to diseases and infections. It can be used to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation and fight free radicals. Benefits Include: Healthy Glowing Skin Boosted Immune System Resistance to Infections and Diseases Myer’s Cocktail The Myer’s Cocktail infusion increases the concentration of a variety of essential vitamins and minerals within the blood. It has been known to improve a wide variety of medical conditions and help patients both look and feel healthier. At Knox Wellness Experience in Knoxville, TN, we offer regenerative medicine treatments to help patients experience natural healing from specific conditions, including joint and soft tissue injuries and pain. We rely on growth factors derived from the patient’s bodies, exosomes, and safely-sourced stem cells to promote healing. Our treatment process doesn’t require surgery and won’t result in adverse reactions, but it will deliver multi-faceted benefits by strengthening and healing the treatment area. What Is Regenerative Medicine? Regenerative medicine refers to treatments that aid the body in healing itself. Over time, our bodies lose their natural healing elements due to aging, injury, and disease. Regenerative medicine aims to help the body act younger, repair itself, and regenerate without requiring invasive, surgical, or chemical-laden solutions. The aging process can cause the natural deterioration of joints, often accelerated by a sports injury or lifestyle factors. The result of such an injury can severely limit mobility, cause pain, and negatively impact the quality of life. By using PRF, stem cells, and exosomes, we can promote healing and restoration of the affected area without requiring that the patient take medications, receive steroid injections, or undergo surgery. After undergoing treatment, patients can expect: Better alignment Improved joint function The ability to resume activities without pain Improved quality of life Restoration of a full range of motion of the affected area What We Offer At Knox Wellness Experience, we offer different treatment options, including PRF injections to treat joint pain and soft tissue injuries. We also offer exosome and stem cell treatments to help patients experience thorough and long-term natural healing. Stem cells are made of processed birth tissue that contains key components and healing elements to treat cells in the patient’s body that have been compromised in some form. They generate new cells to replace those compromised cells that aren’t functioning as they should due to aging, illness, and disease. The stem cells we use during treatment are derived from safe and ethical sources. We adhere to the highest standards and consider patient safety in obtaining and administering stem cells during treatments. PRF Injections for Joint in Soft Tissue Pain and Injuries If you have sustained a joint or soft tissue injury, the typical treatment protocol initially involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation. However, sometimes these steps don’t effectively contribute to the healing process, and you’re still left with pain that’s often debilitating, detracts from your quality of life, and prevents you from doing the things you love or even functioning normally from day to day. How and Why PRF Injections Work PRF injections provide a non-surgical, extremely effective treatment option for those who have sustained a joint injury or are dealing with soft tissue pain. PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin and contains growth factors and isolated platelets that, when isolated, prepared, and re-injected into the body, help it heal, repair, and regenerate itself. Unlike many traditional treatment options, including steroid injections, anti-inflammatory medications, and even surgical solutions, PRF injections focus on the root cause of the problem and help the body heal and repair itself. Many patients who undergo a PRF joint injection treatment plan notice that not only do they experience full healing, but the treatment area becomes stronger after completing the PRF treatment plan. The Treatment Benefits There are many benefits to turning to regenerative medicine to help your body heal and restore itself. Most patients qualify for treatment because our treatment options include naturally-based solutions, including the platelet-rich fibrin derived from the patient’s blood to heal the body. Other treatment benefits include: No risk of adverse reaction Treatments are safe and effective Treatment methods rely on natural healing elements and ingredients Treatment areas are often stronger after treatment Treatments are quick and don’t require significant downtime Treatment processes are non-surgical and minimally invasive Treatment process addresses the source of the pain and injury

As we age, our bodies naturally produce smaller quantities of primary sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone. As this happens, uncomfortable symptoms can develop, such as mood changes or fluctuations in sleep patterns. Often, these symptoms are the result of a hormonal imbalance in the body and can be alleviated through pellet BHRT therapy. Studies have shown that hormone replacement therapy, particularly in women, can improve the symptoms associated with a variety of conditions, including osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and more. If you’re interested in learning more about pellet BHRT therapy, contact Dr. Siano and the team at Knox Wellness in Knoxville, TN. What Is Pellet BHRT Therapy? Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is an effective way to overcome the symptoms associated with hormone imbalances that can occur at any age in both men and women. It is most frequently used to treat symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, though it may also be used to improve symptoms of other conditions. Bioidentical hormones are derived from natural sources and are chemically identical to those produced within the human body. Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are some of the most commonly used treatments. What Is the Difference Between BHRT and Traditional HRT? The major difference between BHRT and traditional HRT is that bioidentical hormones used in BHRT, and subsequently pellet BHRT therapy, are chemically identical to those produced naturally. The hormones used to create traditional HRT therapy are made from the urine of pregnant horses and other synthetic hormones. What Are the Benefits of BHRT? Typically, BHRT is used as someone ages and their hormone levels drop. It’s extremely common among women who are in perimenopause or menopause. However, men can also benefit from the treatment as male bodies produce less testosterone as they age, and the symptoms of lower testosterone production can negatively affect certain aspects of a person’s life. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is used to increase levels of the hormones that have dropped inside a person’s body and improve moderate-to-severe symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, memory loss, weight gain, sleep issues, and others. It’s important to note, however, that results vary from patient to patient. How Are the Pellets Inserted? Pellet insertion is generally a simple procedure that takes place in the comfort of our office in Knoxville, TN using specialized techniques. Once inserted, the pellets will slowly release small doses of hormones that will be absorbed into the patient’s blood. Contact Us If you suspect you may be dealing with symptoms of a hormone imbalance, pellet BHRT therapy could help you to feel your best again. To find out for sure, schedule a consultation with our professional at Knox Wellness in Knoxville, TN. We would be more than happy to evaluate your case. Providing ketamine therapy for depression, PTSD, OCD, anxiety and certain types of chronic nerve pain Why ketamine? Ketamine is on the World Health Organization’s list of essential medicines. It was first developed in the 1960s as an anesthetic during the Vietnam War. Over the past few decades, however, researchers have discovered its incredible ability to rapidly and effectively treat depression, PTSD, bipolar depression, anxiety, OCD, migraines, CRPS, and certain types of chronic nerve pain. One in four (25%) of patients suffering from depression, anxiety, or PTSD fail to improve with counseling and antidepressants. In this treatment resistant group, 3 out of 4 get rapid relief with IV ketamine infusion therapy, most after their first infusion. When ketamine works, it isn’t subtle. Many responders remark that “they can’t remember feeling this good before.” These kind of responses make doing this work incredibly rewarding as we help people get their lives back. Fast-Acting – Whereas most antidepressants require weeks or even months to have an effect, ketamine usually begins working within a matter of hours. Most patients experience significant relief after their first few treatments. Depression, anxiety, pain, and other forms of stress damage the communication system between areas of the brain responsible for memory, learning, and higher-order thinking. Treatment with ketamine rapidly relieved the abnormal behaviors and symptoms. The drug also quickly restores the coordinated activity of prefrontal neural circuits that were disrupted by chronic stress. It does so by triggering a cascading sequence of events in the brain, which ultimately results in the growth of new connections between neurons (brain cells) in the prefrontal cortex (front part of your brain). Effective – Ketamine can effectively treat a variety of mental health and chronic nerve pain disorders and has the scientific research to prove it. This is true even for those who have not responded to traditional treatments in the past. Safe – Ketamine has an excellent safety profile when given by a trained medical professional. The dose given to treat mental health and chronic nerve pain conditions is significantly lower than that required during anesthesia. The dose used for the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders is very low and safe. During ketamine treatments, blood pressure and heart rate may minimally increase but not sufficiently to cause issues. Short-term side effects are uncommon but may include mild increase in blood pressure and heart rate, dizziness, temporary blurred vision, sensation of “lightness” , euphoria, and nausea. Our patients are monitored continuously to ensure safety and medications to treat any sides effects such as nausea are readily available. There are no long-term side effects. It is possible to notice effects within 24 hours of a ketamine infusion. Many patients begin to benefit from symptom improvement within 2-4 hours, in some patients it may take up to 24-48 hours. For mental health conditions, most know within 2-3 infusions ketamine will help you. Some require all 6 initial infusions before they notice a difference. When it works, the changes are quite dramatic, not subtle at all. Ketamine responders feel less emotional pain, more hopeful, less sad, fewer thoughts of suicide, increased calmness, or become more inclined to engage with people. Additional improvements are often seen further into the course of treatment. If you are having positive results, it is recommended to have up to 6 total infusions within the first 3 weeks. After that, maintenance (booster) infusions may be scheduled to maintain response. The total length of treatment is highly dependent on each individual’s unique circumstances and results.
