We invite you to schedule a consultation with Choate Eye Associates in Nashville, TN.

Contact Lenses

After a comprehensive eye exam at his state-of-the-art Nashville, TN, area practice, Dr. Choate can prescribe the perfect contact lens to match your individual vision goals and lifestyle. His optical boutique offers almost every available kind, from daily disposables to eye color changing lenses to lenses that can correct sight issues caused by disease or surgery. Disposable contact lenses are great for patients without special eye care needs. This type of lens is very popular at our Nashville, TN, area practice because they're convenient, cost-effective, and very comfortable to wear. Dr. Choate offers top-quality disposables lenses that can be cleaned and reused. This allows patients to swap them out daily, every two weeks, or even once a month. Extended-wear contact lenses are designed to be worn a few nights in a row or up to a month. With follow-up appointments and proper care, extended-care lenses could eliminate a patient's need for refractive surgeries such as LASIK.

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)

Without treatment, vision problems like farsightedness, astigmatism, and lack of eye coordination can get worse. Only a board-certified eye doctor like Dr. Choate can precisely pinpoint the causes of your CVS symptoms and recommend the proper solutions: Tints and coatings on specialized eyeglasses and contact lenses reduce the glare from digital screens. Our luxurious optical boutique features the most high-tech contacts and designer-brand frames north of Nashville, TN. Dr. Choate may prescribe eye exercises to increase coordination between your eyes and brain and reduce related strain. These comfortable exercises can be done at home. Certain symptoms can be alleviated with medications. For dry eyes, in particular, Dr. Choate can prescribe soothing, moisturizing eye drops to reduce discomfort and improve your vision.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

While most optometrists offer vision screenings, Dr. Choate is one of the few doctors in Nashville, Goodlettsville, or Hendersonville, TN, to offer truly comprehensive eye exams. Comprehensive eye exams are different from vision screenings, although we generally perform the two at the same time. A comprehensive exam typically focuses on the physical health of your eye. As you get older, you are at an increased risk of developing these conditions. Through regular exams, Dr. Choate can often identify eye diseases and treat them before they permanently damage your vision. In particular, regular eye exams will help to diagnose glaucoma. Without routine care, this disease will often go undiagnosed until it causes major vision loss. In addition, with age, you are more susceptible to vision deterioration, such as nearsightedness and farsightedness. At your visits, we can monitor your eyesight, updating your lens strength as needed.

PRK

As a result, the practice enjoys the distinction of being the first in the south to offer patients many new technologies before they are available to other doctors. Our practice is one of the most highly respected eye care practices in the state of Tennessee.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration, commonly referred to as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is an eye disease in the retina that develops over time. The macula is located in the center of the retina and is responsible for detecting light and sending those signals to the brain. Macular degeneration involves the thinning of the macula, leading to vision loss. If you have dry AMD, small yellow deposits called drusen have formed within the thinning macula. This impedes the function of the macula and causes it to dry out, resulting in distorted and dimmed vision with a blind spot in the center field of view. When left untreated, it can eventually lead to central vision loss or the development of wet AMD, the more serious form of AMD. Wet AMD involves the leaking of blood and fluid from the growth of abnormal blood vessels. These blood vessels grow under the macula and leak into the retina, which causes visual disturbances.

Glaucoma

Choate Eye Associates serves the eye care needs of Nashville and Hendersonville from our advanced optometry practice in Goodlettsville, TN. Our eye care physician, Dr. Choate, uses the latest technology and proven techniques in vision care to detect the earliest signs of eye diseases, including glaucoma. During a comprehensive eye exam, Dr. Choate tests every patient's eye pressure and visual field, and checks for any optic nerve damage. If any sign of glaucoma is present, he can provide effective medical therapies and superior pre- and post-surgical care if it is needed.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is a type of diabetic eye disease that affects the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. High blood sugar can block the blood vessels of the retina, causing scar tissue to form. To compensate for this blockage, the eye creates new blood vessels. Unfortunately, these new blood vessels do not develop properly and are prone to leaking. During advanced stages of diabetic retinopathy, these fragile blood vessels leak into the jelly-like vitreous that fills the center of the eye and more retinal scar tissue forms. This can increase your risk of macular edema (buildup of fluid in the central part of the retina), retinal detachment, and vision loss.
