In restorative dentistry, dental implants are a significant innovation for replacing missing teeth. They offer more than just surface-level solutions, providing a solid foundation for a natural-looking and long-lasting smile. Their growing popularity is evident, with over 3 million Americans choosing this option. This number will continue to grow, considering dental implants have become the gold standard of care. Understanding Dental Implants Dental implants are titanium posts implanted into the jawbone. They act as sturdy anchors for prosthetic teeth. Unlike conventional dentures or dental bridges, these posts offer superior durability and stability, closely resembling the natural structure of your teeth. We can use implants to replace a single tooth with a dental crown, anchor an implant-supported bridge, stabilize loose dentures, or replace all of your upper or lower teeth with a set of implant dentures.Dental Implants in Cleveland, TN Center for Cosmetic Dentistry Why Choose Dental Implants? Dental implants outshine removable tooth replacement options in several ways: Longevity and durability: They can last for decades if cared for properly. Unlike removable dentures, there’s no risk of losing the prosthetic. Additionally, implants don’t require frequent adjustments or rely on messy adhesives to keep false teeth in place. Preserving jawbone health: Implants are the only replacement option that actively stimulates the jawbone, preventing bone loss over time. This preserves your facial structure and maintains a more youthful appearance. Enhanced comfort and function: You can forget about slipping or floating dentures when you opt for dental implants. With 4-12 dental implants anchoring your teeth, you can eat, laugh, and speak without worry. Plus, they more closely mimic the appearance, stability, and function of natural teeth.

Mini dental implants represent a significant advancement in dental care, especially for those struggling with missing teeth or loose dentures. At the Mini Dental Implant Center of America in Cleveland, TN, our dentists specialize in this innovative tooth replacement solution, ensuring improved quality of life for our patients. These narrow-diameter implants offer many advantages over traditional dental implants and are just as durable despite their smaller size. What Are Mini Dental Implants? Mini dental implants are small titanium posts used as an alternative to traditional dental implants. They are designed to stabilize dentures or replace missing teeth, offering a blend of innovation and comfort. Unlike traditional implants, they’re smaller in diameter, facilitating a less invasive installation process, among other benefits. One standout feature of mini dental implants is their versatility. Their compact size makes them suitable for patients with jawbone loss and lower bone density, providing an option for individuals who might not be ideal candidates for a standard implant.Mini Dental Implants in Cleveland, TN We can use mini implants to replace one missing tooth with an artificial crown, a group of missing teeth with an implant-supported bridge, or a full set of teeth with implant dentures. If you already have traditional dentures but are disappointed with their performance, denture stabilization with mini implants can enhance their function and comfort. The Advantages of Mini Dental Implants Mini dental implants offer several key advantages over traditional implants: Smaller size: Mini implants are typically less than 3 mm in diameter, whereas traditional implants average around 5 mm. This smaller size allows for placement in more confined areas and the possibility of adding extra implants for enhanced support. Less invasive procedure: The streamlined design of mini dental implants means their insertion is less invasive. There’s no need for surgical cuts or stitches, leading to a more comfortable experience for the patient and a quicker recovery. Immediate functionality: A key feature of mini dental implants is the rapid improvement in function they provide. Patients can quickly resume normal speaking and eating habits, bypassing the extended waiting periods needed for traditional implants. Cost-effective: The faster placement and recovery associated with mini dental implants also make them more cost-effective than their traditional counterparts. Their affordability makes them accessible to a wider range of patients. Enhanced comfort and confidence: Patients with mini dental implants often report increased comfort and confidence when speaking, eating, and engaging in social activities.

Dentures

Tooth loss has been a challenge throughout human history. Since approximately 2500 B.C., dentures have been used as a solution. Over time, false teeth prosthetics have evolved significantly. Today’s dentures are more technologically advanced, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing. However, they can be dramatically improved with dental implants. At The Mini Implant Center of America in Cleveland, TN, we’re proud to offer a variety of implant dentures supported by mini dental implants. These small titanium posts provide a sturdy anchor for your prosthetic. They allow you to enjoy your favorite foods, speak clearly, and smile confidently. Understanding Traditional and Partial Dentures To better understand the options available, it’s essential to first explore the conventional choices. Traditional Dentures These are full-mouth prosthetics designed to replace all teeth in either the upper or lower jaw, or both. They rest on the gums and can be removed for cleaning. While they restore appearance and basic function, they don’t prevent bone loss in the jaw and may require adhesives to stay in place. Partial Dentures When some natural teeth remain, partial dentures fill the gaps that missing teeth create. They are typically anchored to existing teeth using clasps and can be removed for cleaning. Partial dentures help prevent remaining teeth from shifting and can improve chewing and speech. At our practice, we offer Snap-On Smile® as an alternative to partial dentures. This custom-made removable arch fits over existing teeth to create a beautiful, complete smile. The Problem With Traditional Options While conventional dentures have been a reliable tooth replacement solution for years, they come with several problems: Slipping and sliding: Traditional dentures can slip and slide, causing discomfort and making it challenging to enjoy everyday activities. Difficulty chewing: Chewing with traditional dentures may not be as efficient, making it harder to enjoy a variety of foods. This can potentially affect your nutrition. Speech issues: Some people experience speech difficulties when wearing false teeth, leading to self-consciousness or frustration during conversations. Bone loss: When you lose teeth, your jawbone begins to recede. Unfortunately, traditional dentures cannot prevent this bone deterioration because they rest on the gums. As a result, denture wearers often experience changes to their facial structure and appearance. Gum irritation: The friction between dentures and gums can lead to irritation, soreness, and the need for messy adhesives. Inconvenient maintenance: Cleaning and caring for traditional dentures can be a pain, requiring specific products and routines. It’s important to note that these challenges can be discouraging for individuals seeking a comfortable and convenient solution. However, advancements like mini dental implants offer a promising alternative. They address many of these issues for a brighter and more comfortable smile.

Same-Day Crowns
Same-Day Crowns
Free consultation

Crowns are the most common restorative dental procedure, and approximately 2.3 million implant-supported crowns are made annually. Same-day crowns represent a groundbreaking development in dental restoration, providing a swift and effective solution for damaged or missing teeth. At The Mini Dental Implant Center of America in Cleveland, TN, we proudly provide same-day crowns using our in-house CEREC machine. At other practices, getting a dental crown takes weeks, as the custom restoration is made at an off-site lab. However, our eligible patients can have a fully restored tooth in just one visit. Understanding Dental Crowns Dental crowns are custom caps that encase a tooth. They restore and reinforce the tooth’s shape, appearance, and strength. We often use them to protect weak teeth, restore broken teeth, or offer protection after root canal treatment. To make room for the crown, we carefully remove a small amount of enamel so that the crown fits snugly. Normally, you would receive a temporary crown while you wait 2-4 weeks for your permanent crown to be made at a dental lab. However, our CEREC machine allows us to make your crown in our office in about an hour, making same-day crowns a reality.Same-Day Crowns in Cleveland, TN Center for Cosmetic Dentistry Dental crowns provide significant benefits to your oral health: Restored tooth function: Dental crowns facilitate the return to normal eating and speaking capabilities, eliminating the need to avoid favorite foods due to missing or damaged teeth. Enhanced aesthetics: By improving the appearance of discolored or misshapen teeth, tooth-colored crowns play a key role in rejuvenating your smile. Long-term protection: Crowns serve as a safeguard, providing defense against further decay, infection, or damage. Implant-Supported Crowns If you have lost a tooth or need a tooth extracted, we recommend using a dental implant to support an artificial crown. Missing a tooth not only affects your smile’s appearance. It also impacts your oral health. The empty socket allows remaining teeth to shift, provides a place for bacteria to accumulate, and leads to jawbone deterioration. A dental implant—or mini dental implant—replaces the missing root and provides a stable base for a dental crown or another restoration. By replacing the missing tooth in its entirety, this system alleviates common tooth loss problems. Because we can place mini implant-supported crowns in just one visit, you can enter our office with a missing tooth and leave with a brand-new smile.

Dental bridges are custom-made restorations designed to fill spaces left by missing teeth, providing both aesthetic and functional benefits. According to the American College of Prosthodontists, an estimated 178 million people in the United States have at least one missing tooth. Gaps in your smile can immediately impact your appearance and your ability to eat and speak as you once did. Additionally, failing to replace missing teeth can result in more serious oral health issues in the future. Dental bridges offer a way to replace missing teeth quickly and reliably, treating immediate concerns and preventing long-term problems. What Are Dental Bridges? Dental bridges are a tried and true solution for replacing missing teeth. Essentially, a dental bridge fills the gap created by one or more missing teeth with a row of artificial teeth. It’s a prosthetic device anchored by your natural teeth or supported by dental implants. While bridges do enhance your smile’s look, their main purpose is restorative. They play a crucial role in maintaining your oral health, ensuring that your remaining teeth don’t shift out of place.Dental Bridges in Cleveland, TN Center for Cosmetic Dentistry Benefits of Dental Bridges Dental bridges offer several benefits, making them a popular choice among patients. Bridges are remarkable in their ability to: Restore functionality: Dental bridges enable you to chew and speak properly, restoring the functionality lost with missing teeth. Enhance aesthetics: We customize bridges to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth, ensuring a natural look. As a result, they can improve the appearance of your smile, boosting your confidence and self-esteem. Prevent misalignment: By filling gaps, dental bridges prevent the remaining teeth from shifting. This prevents bite issues from developing. Improve speech: When you lose even one tooth, pronouncing words properly can be difficult. Bridges fill the gaps responsible for pronunciation challenges, allowing you to express yourself clearly. Distribute bite forces: The prosthetic distributes bite forces more evenly across the dental arch, reducing stress on remaining natural teeth. Additionally, dental bridges can last many years with proper care, making them a cost-effective solution.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry has become a cornerstone of modern dental care, offering a comforting solution for those with dental fear or anxiety. Approximately 36% of all dental patients have some level of anxiety over visiting the dentist. The Mini Dental Implant Center of America in Cleveland, TN, is proud to provide sedation dentistry, ensuring a more relaxing and stress-free experience for patients who need it. Understanding Sedation Dentistry Sedation dentistry involves using medication to help patients feel relaxed during dental treatments. It’s an ideal option for those with dental-related anxiety or fear. It helps transform what could be a stressful experience into a calm and manageable one. Reducing anxiety encourages regular dental visits, which are crucial for maintaining oral health and preventing more invasive treatments. The medication administered varies in strength depending on your needs. It can range from mild, allowing you to remain awake yet relaxed, to more potent levels that induce a deep state of relaxation. In some cases, the medication can even make you fall asleep during the procedure. Sedation Options Sedation dentistry employs different types of sedation, each suited to different levels of anxiety and types of procedures. We can use sedation techniques for a variety of treatments, from routine check-ups to root canal therapy and dental implants. Laughing Gas Laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, provides mild sedation and is ideal for less invasive procedures. Dispensed through a nosepiece or mask, our team skillfully controls the sedation level during your treatment. After the procedure, we provide pure oxygen to quickly clear the gas from your system, allowing you to drive home safely. Oral Conscious Sedation These medications are taken before your procedure to provide a moderate level of sedation. Oral conscious sedation often induces grogginess, and you might even drift into asleep, but our attentive staff will ensure you’re gently awakened after your treatment. With this method, it’s necessary to arrange transportation home and have someone stay with you as the sedation wears off. Intravenous Sedation Delivered directly into a vein, IV sedation provides deep sedation and is typically reserved for extensive dental work or those with significant anxiety. Our doctors regularly monitor your vital signs and adjust the medication as needed for optimal comfort and safety. General Anesthesia General anesthesia, typically reserved for more invasive procedures, induces a state of complete unconsciousness. An anesthesiologist administers general anesthesia for specialized dental surgeries.

A smile is not just a reflection of happiness but also a powerful contributor to our overall well-being. Research shows that smiling can elevate mood, promote heart health, strengthen the immune system, and potentially increase lifespan. With these benefits, improving your smile is not just a cosmetic goal—it’s a step towards better health and confidence. However, dental imperfections like stains, misshapen teeth, or crookedness can take away the joy of smiling. Porcelain veneers, available at the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry in Cleveland, TN, provide a quick and dramatic enhancement, making them an ideal solution for anyone who wants to improve their smile. What Are Porcelain Veneers? Veneers are a cosmetic dental procedure designed to improve the appearance of your smile. These thin shells of durable porcelain are custom-crafted and bonded to the teeth’s front surface. They effectively conceal various imperfections, creating a radiant and uniform appearance. To place veneers, we remove a small amount of enamel, an irreversible step necessary for the precise fit of the veneers. This durability, combined with their natural appearance, makes veneers a popular choice for long-lasting smile enhancement.Porcelain Veneers in Cleveland TN Center For Cosmetic Dentistry What Imperfections Can Veneers Help With? Veneers are versatile and can address a range of dental issues, including: Stains that don’t respond to teeth whitening Discolorations from infection or medication Crooked, uneven, or misshapen teeth Gaps between teeth Wear from grinding or erosion Chips or fractures Alternative Options for Correcting Imperfections While porcelain veneers are a fantastic choice to enhance your smile, there are multiple ways to address the problems listed above: Lumineers®: These are ultra-thin veneers (about the thickness of a contact lens) that require minimal tooth preparation. While not as durable as traditional veneers, Lumineers® are an excellent option for those seeking a less invasive approach. Dental crowns: A crown fits around the entire surface of a damaged tooth, preventing further damage and restoring its structural integrity. Dental crowns are primarily a restorative treatment, whereas veneers are cosmetic. While a tooth-colored crown will enhance the appearance of a damaged tooth, its main goal is to restore and protect it. Snap-On Smile®: This innovative, removable dental arch is custom-created by licensed dentists using a specialized dental resin. Remarkably thin yet incredibly strong, Snap-On Smile® effortlessly fits over your natural teeth.

If you want to brighten your teeth and enhance your smile, you’re not alone. According to a study by the Dental Clinics of North America, approximately 80% of Americans aged 18-49 want brighter teeth. One of the fastest ways to revitalize your smile, improve your appearance, and fix cosmetic blemishes is with Lumineers. What Are Lumineers? Lumineers® represent a breakthrough in cosmetic dentistry as a less invasive alternative to traditional dental veneers. These ultra-thin shells, measuring about 0.3 mm—about as thick as a contact lens—are expertly bonded to the front surface of your teeth. This process effectively conceals various dental imperfections, achieving a harmonious and enhanced smile. The standout feature of Lumineers® is their minimal preparation requirement. Often labeled as “no-prep veneers,” they typically necessitate little to no alteration of the tooth structure, preserving the integrity of your natural teeth while offering a transformative cosmetic solution. With appropriate care, Lumineers® can maintain your smile’s brilliance for up to two decades.Lumineers in Cleveland, TN | Center for Cosmetic Dentistry Lumineers vs. Traditional Veneers To apply porcelain veneers, we must remove a portion of your tooth enamel. This is a permanent decision, as enamel doesn’t regenerate. Traditional veneers, typically about 1.5 mm thick, require this step to ensure a seamless fit against your natural teeth. Once the teeth are prepared, you’ll need to wear temporary veneers to protect your teeth while your custom coverings are created. Lumineers®, in contrast, boast a slender 0.3 mm profile and generally do not require enamel removal, often making the process reversible. This key difference means Lumineers® can be applied more conservatively, eliminating the need for anesthesia. Additionally, when you opt for Lumineers, you won’t need to wear temporary coverings since the teeth aren’t altered. Cosmetic Issues That Lumineers Can Address Lumineers® are versatile and can correct a variety of dental concerns: Stained or discolored teeth (even teeth stained by tetracycline) Unwanted gaps between teeth Chipped teeth Crooked, misaligned, or uneven teeth Misshapen or small teeth

Invisalign

Invisalign, the innovative clear tray teeth straightening system, has transformed the world of orthodontics. Today, over 16 million people have trusted Invisalign to straighten their smiles. At The Mini Dental Implant Center of America in Cleveland, TN, we’re proud to offer Invisalign as a discreet yet effective solution for achieving a beautifully aligned smile. What Is Invisalign? Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that gently repositions teeth using a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners. Unlike traditional metal braces, the trays apply force to the teeth collectively to move them. These aligners are almost invisible and removable, offering a significant advantage over traditional braces in terms of aesthetics and convenience. Patients wear each aligner for a few weeks, following a specific sequence. It’s crucial to wear the aligners for about 20-22 hours daily, removing them only for eating or cleaning. Adherence to this regimen is key to the success and duration of the treatment. Worn as instructed, Invisalign can be a faster alternative to traditional braces.Invisalign in Cleveland, TN Center for Cosmetic Dentistry The Advantages of Invisalign Invisalign offers several benefits over metal braces: Discreet treatment: Invisalign’s clear aligners are nearly invisible to the naked eye. This makes them popular for teens and adults who prefer a less noticeable orthodontic solution. Improved oral hygiene: Because the aligners are removable, it’s easier to brush and floss properly during treatment. Comfort: Invisalign trays are made of smooth plastic and are custom-fitted to your teeth. This reduces irritation to the cheeks and gums associated with metal brackets and wires. No food restrictions: You can remove the aligners to eat, so there are no restrictions on foods you can enjoy. Protection from tooth grinding: If you suffer from bruxism, your clear aligners will guard against teeth grinding.

Braces

Braces have become a cornerstone of orthodontics, offering a solution for misaligned teeth and jaws. These days, orthodontic treatments aren’t just for teens—of the 4 million Americans who currently wear braces, 25% are adults. At The Mini Dental Implant Center of America in Cleveland, TN, we provide various options that cater to each patient’s unique needs, regardless of age. Understanding Braces and Their Importance Braces are dental devices that correct issues like crowded or crooked teeth, over and underbites, gapped teeth, and misaligned jaws. Their primary goal is not just cosmetic improvement but also enhancing oral health. Proper alignment of teeth and jaws is crucial for speech, chewing, and long-term dental health. Braces apply continuous, mild pressure to slowly guide teeth into their proper positions. This process involves brackets attached to each tooth that are connected by a wire. As the teeth shift, the surrounding bone adapts to the exerted pressure. The exact mechanics of how the teeth move varies based on the type of system used.Braces in Cleveland, TN Center for Cosmetic Dentistry Types of Braces Today, there are various braces options available, chosen based on individual needs and preferences: Traditional metal: When you picture braces, you likely imagine this type. Traditional metal braces are known for their durability, effectiveness, and precision. Metal brackets are cemented onto each tooth, and a stainless steel archwire slowly moves the teeth. We provide a selection of colored bands, allowing you to minimize the visibility of your braces or showcase your personality by choosing a more vibrant option. Ceramic: These work like traditional braces but are made from a clear, transparent ceramic material, making them less noticeable. However, they are more costly, less durable, and more likely to stain. Lingual: Attached to the back of the teeth, these brackets and wires are kept out of view. However, this system can be expensive and requires time to adapt to changes in eating and speaking. Self-ligating: The brackets on these braces use clips instead of elastic bands to hold the wire in place. This system reduces the pressure exerted on the teeth and eliminates the need to change out rubber bands, which can reduce time spent in the dental chair. Clear aligners: Even though clear aligners like Invisalign don’t rely on a bracket and wire system, they are often called “invisible braces.” The treatment entails wearing custom transparent trays for a few weeks, progressing to the next series until the teeth are correctly repositioned. Getting and Taking Care of Braces Getting braces usually involves several stages, starting with a free consultation. Our experienced team of dentists will examine your teeth and discuss the best options for your situation. We’ll take X-rays and make impressions of your teeth to design your personalized treatment plan. After fitting your brackets and wires, you’ll need regular follow-up appointments for adjustments. You may experience mild discomfort for a few days after getting your braces and right after adjustments. You can take acetaminophen (Tylenol®), but avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or Advil®. These contain prostaglandins, a hormone-like substance that impedes the tooth-moving process. Living with braces requires certain adjustments, particularly in oral hygiene practices. Meticulous brushing and flossing are crucial as the metalwork can trap food particles and make it challenging to remove plaque. We recommend special flossing tools like floss picks, interdental brushes, or water flossers to help dislodge debris. It’s also essential to avoid hard or sticky foods that can cause damage, like hard, crunchy, chewy, or sticky foods and snacks. While you can chew gum with braces, you must choose a sugar-free variety with the ADA seal of approval.

Have you ever dreamed of a brighter, more radiant smile? If you’re like most Americans, you have. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, when people were asked what they wanted to improve about their smile, the most common response was whiter teeth. Teeth whitening is a popular and effective way to enhance your smile’s appearance. At The Center for Cosmetic Dentistry in Cleveland, TN, we specialize in transforming smiles with professional teeth whitening services. Teeth Whitening Explained A beautiful white smile is more than just a trend. It is a reflection of self-care and confidence. Sometimes, however, we need help achieving the beautiful smile we envision. The teeth whitening process removes blemishes, discolorations, and stains from your teeth. A professional whitening procedure uses bleaching agents to help eliminate intrinsic and extrinsic (internal and external) stains.Teeth Whitening in Cleveland, TN Center For Cosmetic Dentistry You need to have good oral health to undergo this treatment, as certain issues like tooth decay or trauma can cause discoloration. However, we can address these concerns with restorative treatments like tooth-colored fillings and gum disease treatment. Finally, you should know that restorations, such as dental crowns, bridges, and dentures, cannot be brightened with whitening treatments. Professional Teeth Whitening vs. Store-Bought Kits While store-bought kits are readily available, professional teeth whitening offers benefits that over-the-counter products cannot match: Professional monitoring: In-office treatments are supervised by dental professionals, ensuring safety and effectiveness. Our experienced dentists can modify treatments, monitor for potential issues, and provide guidance on maintaining optimal oral health. Customized treatment: Every smile is unique. Professional whitening services are tailored to individual needs and tooth sensitivities. In contrast, a store-bought kit can’t address every nook and cranny in your smile. Many kits leave patients dissatisfied because of their inconsistent whitening. Long-lasting results: Professional treatments use advanced technology and stronger whitening agents, generating more effective and longer-lasting results than DIY kits. When it comes down to it, store-bought kits are a gamble. You’re betting that they’ll fit correctly, that you won’t encounter any issues not explained in the instructions, and that they’ll provide effective results. With an in-office treatment at The Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, you know you’re getting a proven and professional treatment that works. Professional Teeth Whitening at Home At The Center for Cosmetic Dentistry in Cleveland, TN, we offer convenient at-home treatment featuring whitening trays. This option requires two visits to our office. During your first visit, we’ll create a custom mold of your teeth. This is used to make the personalized trays you’ll wear at home. Once the trays are created, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment for a fitting. This ensures that we can fine-tune the trays for a flawless fit. This level of personalization gives you a more uniform and satisfying result than trying to make a generic store-bought kit fit your unique dental structure. We’ll send you home with your trays and a special whitening solution. Depending on the level of staining and desired level of whiteness, you may wear your trays for 30 minutes twice a day or overnight. You may experience some sensitivity after these sessions, which is normal. However, sensitivity should be less than that of over-the-counter products since the trays fit you precisely.

Tooth-Colored Fillings
Tooth-Colored Fillings
Free consultation

Nearly 90% of adults aged 20-64 have experienced tooth decay, making dental fillings one of the most common dental procedures in the world. Fillings play a pivotal role in preserving teeth, ensuring a healthy, beautiful smile for people of all ages. Whether you’re experiencing tooth pain, sensitivity, or visible damage, dental fillings can be a vital solution. At the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry in Cleveland, TN, we specialize in tooth-colored fillings, which seamlessly blend with your natural teeth, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. Understanding Dental Fillings Often, we can repair damaged teeth using special filling materials. This restorative procedure is simpler and less complicated than dental crowns or implant dentures. Available in various materials like gold, silver amalgam, porcelain, composite resin, and glass ionomer, each material has its unique benefits. However, two of the most popular filling materials are silver amalgam and white composite resin. Silver fillings may be used for less visible back teeth, while tooth-colored composite fillings are preferred for front teeth due to their natural appearance. Tooth-Colored Fillings in Cleveland, TN Dr. Kenneth Beard How Tooth-Colored Fillings Work The process of getting a dental filling is simple. Most fillings can be completed in one or two visits, depending on the material chosen and the extent of decay. Diagnosis and decision: We will identify the damaged area during a routine checkup or in response to symptoms like tooth sensitivity or pain. After determining that a filling is the best course of action, we’ll discuss which material you prefer. For tooth-colored fillings, we customize the shade to match your natural teeth. Removal of decay: To begin, we remove the damaged part of the tooth, leaving a clean area for the filling material. Filling application: We will skillfully apply the material to the prepared tooth, filling the cavity. Shaping and polishing: Finally, we will sculpt the filling, ensuring it matches your tooth’s natural contours and blends seamlessly with your smile. After a final polish, your restored tooth looks beautiful and functions perfectly. Post-procedure, you can resume your routine activities immediately. You may experience some sensitivity—especially to more extreme hot or cold temperatures—but that should subside within a week. However, please contact us if discomfort persists or if you notice any sharp edges. What Can Dental Fillings Treat? Tooth-colored fillings are versatile and are commonly used for: Cavities: Fillings are most often used to treat cavities caused by tooth decay. Fillings prevent further damage by removing the decayed portion, sealing the tooth, and restoring the tooth’s structure. Fractures: Whether it’s a chip, crack, or fracture, dental fillings can restore a tooth’s integrity. Worn tooth surfaces: Over time, teeth may wear down, especially if you grind your teeth, bite your nails, or use your teeth as tools. Dental fillings can rejuvenate worn surfaces, ensuring optimal function.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is among the most common dental procedures, with about 15 million performed in the U.S. annually. Yet, they have a bad reputation thanks to some outdated stereotypes. Outside the world of dentistry, the term “root canal” is associated with something unwanted, scary, or painful. However, modern dental techniques and technologies have transformed root canals into procedures that are far less daunting than their reputation would have us believe. What Is Root Canal Treatment? When the inner tooth becomes infected due to cracks or cavities, root canal treatment becomes necessary. Treatment targets the tooth’s pulp: the innermost layer containing nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. The pulp is crucial for a tooth’s development, but once the tooth has fully matured, it can sustain itself without the pulp. The root canal process involves removing the infected pulp. We also clean and disinfect the canals that extend into the root. Finally, we fill the empty space with a dental filling to save the tooth and prevent further infection. We often recommend capping the tooth with a dental crown as an added safeguard.Root Canal Treatment in Cleveland, TN Dr. Kenneth Beard A root canal aims to eliminate bacteria, prevent further infection, and save the tooth. If a root canal infection is left untreated, you may require a tooth extraction and replacement tooth. Additionally, the bacteria can spread, ultimately infecting other areas of the body. Signs You May Need a Root Canal Tooth pulp infection won’t resolve without intervention. Here are some signs you might need a root canal treatment: Persistent tooth pain: This type of pain can be particularly intense and may worsen when lying down or during nighttime. If the pain spreads to your other teeth, face, or jaw, that could be a sign of infection. Pain when pressure is applied: This sensitivity can often be triggered by biting, chewing, or even brushing. Swelling in the gums or jaw: Swelling can be painful and cause a noticeable change in the appearance of your gums or jawline. A pimple on your gums that may ooze pus: The bacteria from an infection can form a pimple that may ooze pus. Known as a dental abscess, this pimple is a clear sign of infection and can sometimes lead to a bad taste in the mouth or bad breath. Discolored or loose tooth: An infected tooth may darken compared to surrounding teeth, and the infection can weaken the bone around the tooth, causing it to feel loose. The Process Explained Before proceeding with a root canal, our team will conduct a thorough examination and take X-rays to determine if your tooth is infected. The root canal procedure is as follows: We will apply a local anesthetic, ensuring you remain comfortable and pain-free throughout the procedure. Before proceeding, we’ll place a thin rubber dam over your infected tooth. This keeps it isolated and dry during treatment. Next, one of our experienced dentists will create a small opening in the tooth to access the infected pulp. We’ll use specialized dental tools to remove the blood vessels, nerves, and tissues, leaving behind an empty pulp chamber. We will thoroughly clean and disinfect the empty space. To seal and stabilize the tooth, we fill it with a dental material known as gutta-percha. After closing the hole with a filling, we will cap the tooth with a crown to protect it from further harm. Root canal therapy provides immediate pain relief, allowing you to resume your day. Post-treatment, you can expect the anesthesia to wear off within an hour or two. We recommend waiting to eat until you are no longer numb.

While our thoughts about oral health often focus on tooth-related concerns, such as cavities, fillings, and root canals, the health of our gums is equally important. According to the National Institutes of Health, almost 50% of adults ages 30 and older have gum disease, and that number increases to over 70% for older adults. Gum disease treatment is essential for maintaining oral health and overall well-being. At The Mini Dental Implant Center of America in Cleveland, TN, we understand the importance of timely, effective treatment and are dedicated to helping our patients achieve healthier gums. Understanding Gum Disease Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a common dental issue impacting the gums and bone supporting the teeth. It is the primary cause of tooth loss and can range from mild inflammation (gingivitis) to more severe forms (periodontitis) that can wreak havoc on your oral health.Gum Disease Treatment in Cleveland, TN While poor oral hygiene is a primary contributor to gum disease, allowing plaque and tartar to accumulate and irritate the gum line, it’s not the only factor. Genetic predisposition can increase susceptibility, regardless of oral care routines. Additionally, lifestyle choices such as smoking, unbalanced diet, and stress, along with systemic health issues like diabetes, can accelerate or aggravate the condition. Regular dental check-ups and maintaining good oral hygiene are key to preventing and managing gum disease. Symptoms of Periodontal Disease Experiencing any of the following symptoms could be a warning sign of gum disease. Extremely red or purplish gums Bleeding, especially while eating or brushing Soreness to the touch or when chewing Bad breath (halitosis) or an unpleasant taste Gum recession Loose teeth However, it’s important to note that some people do not experience obvious symptoms, especially in the early stages. Regular dental checkups are key to preventing, diagnosing, and treating gum disease before it requires more comprehensive interventions. The Stages of Gum Disease Left untreated, gum disease develops, causing worsening oral health problems like tooth loss. Gingivitis: This initial stage is marked by red, swollen gums that might bleed when you brush or floss. At this stage, the bone is still intact. Gingivitis is generally reversible with a meticulous oral hygiene regimen. Mild to moderate periodontitis: If gingivitis progresses, it can lead to periodontitis. Your gums may begin to recede and form pockets between the gums and teeth. These “periodontal pockets” can trap food and bacterial plaque, leading to bad breath and pus around your gum line. Pain may also occur as the gum tissues deteriorate. It’s essential to seek professional dental care to address these symptoms promptly and avoid further complications. Advanced periodontitis: At this critical stage, the disease aggressively targets the fibers and bone supporting your teeth, potentially causing tooth looseness or even loss. To halt the progression and prevent further damage, advanced periodontitis requires timely and intensive treatment.

Sleep Apnea Treatment

Sleep apnea occurs when an individual’s breathing is disrupted during sleep. Those suffering from untreated sleep apnea stop breathing at various points throughout the night, causing them to awaken. In serious cases, a person will stop breathing hundreds of times. This irregular breathing pattern can lead to insufficient oxygen supply to the brain and other body parts. As a result, sleep apnea can have dangerous complications, including cardiac issues, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and depression, among other conditions. At The Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer sleep apnea treatment to help you breathe easy. Understanding Sleep Apnea This disorder manifests in two primary forms: obstructive and central sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), the more common type, happens when airway passages are blocked, often due to the collapse of soft tissues in the throat during sleep. In contrast, central sleep apnea occurs when the brain doesn’t send the right signals to the muscles that control breathing. This is due to problems in the part of the brain that regulates breathing.Sleep Apnea Treatment in Cleveland, TN Dr. Kenneth Beard Anyone can experience sleep apnea, although it is more common in men and people over the age of 40. Being overweight also increases the risk, as well as having a large neck, a family history of sleep apnea, gastroesophageal reflux, and breathing issues from allergies, sinus problems, or a deviated septum. Symptoms of Sleep Apnea There are various symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea that can significantly impact daily life and overall health. Recognizing these symptoms is the first step toward seeking effective sleep apnea treatment. Common symptoms include: Loud snoring: While snoring can be common for many individuals, those with OSA often snore louder and more persistently. Snoring may even disrupt sleep for others. Episodes of pauses in breathing: This is often reported by a sleeping partner where the individual with OSA stops breathing for short periods during sleep. Gasping for air during sleep: This is a reflex response to resume breathing after an apnea episode. Morning headaches: Frequent morning headaches can be a result of reduced oxygen levels during the night. Excessive daytime sleepiness: Individuals with OSA often experience daytime fatigue and drowsiness due to restless sleep. Difficulty concentrating: Sleep disturbances can lead to problems with attention, concentration, and memory. Irritability: Mood swings or irritability can be a result of the stress and fatigue caused by poor sleep quality. Awakening with a dry mouth or sore throat: This occurs due to breathing through the mouth while sleeping. Recognizing these symptoms is crucial as OSA can lead to prevent more serious health problems.

Have you ever woken up with pain or clicking in your jaw, an earache that wasn’t an infection, or difficulty opening or closing your mouth? If so, you may be one of the 5-12% of adults who experience TMJ dysfunction. TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, which is the connecting point between your lower jaw and skull. This joint helps move our jaw up and down, allowing us to speak and chew. If you’ve ever felt soreness or tenderness in your jaw muscles, you may need TMJ treatment. TMJ Treatment in Cleveland, TN - Center for Cosmetic Dentistry - Dr. Kenneth BeardSymptoms of TMD There are many symptoms of TMJ dysfunction (TMD). If you experience any of the following, you should call our office to schedule a free consultation. Jaw pain or stiffness Difficulty opening or closing your jaw Face, shoulder, or neck pain Earaches or toothaches Headaches or migraines Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) A change in your teeth’s alignment If TMD symptoms are not addressed, they can limit your chewing function, damage your teeth (even leading to tooth loss), and cause chronic pain. What Causes TMJ Dysfunction? There is rarely just one cause of TMD. It’s almost always a combination of factors, such as: Teeth clenching and grinding (bruxism) Arthritis in your jaw Stress or anxiety Jaw injury Misalignment of the upper and lower teeth (malocclusion) There are also certain habits or lifestyle choices that can worsen TMD. Chewing on fingernails, pen caps, and ice cubes, or even using your teeth to open packaging, can put extra stress on your jaw area. Additionally, if you grind your teeth during the day or take large bites of food, you can unintentionally overwork your jaw muscles. Even poor posture throughout the day can strain your neck, shoulder, and facial muscles, aggravating your TMD symptoms. TMJ Dysfunction Treatment Options There are several ways to treat TMJ dysfunction, but the option that works for you will depend on your symptoms and primary causes. At The Mini Dental Implant Center of America in Cleveland, TN, we prioritize patient comfort and care. To begin, we’ll try noninvasive options, only using more complex treatments if your symptoms don’t improve. Medication: Both over-the-counter and prescription medications can mitigate certain TM symptoms. Tylenol® or ibuprofen can help relieve pain, and for teeth grinding and clenching, our office may prescribe muscle relaxers and antidepressants. Nonsurgical TMJ treatments: One noninvasive method for alleviating TMD is wearing a mouthguard to address nighttime grinding. Our practice offers custom Under Armour® mouthguards and oral sleep apnea appliances that can be tailored to your specific needs, providing comfort and effective relief. Other treatment options to explore include physical therapy, ultrasound therapy, or trigger point injections. On the other hand, simply making behavioral changes like improving your posture can also make a difference. Surgical TMJ treatment: We may recommend surgery if noninvasive treatments aren’t sufficient in treating your TMD.

Sports Mouthguards

Sports mouthguards are crucial for protecting athletes’ dental health, especially in contact sports with a high risk of oral-facial injuries. Like helmets and pag, mouthguards are not just a precaution but a necessary piece of equipment. Statistics reveal that approximately 12% of all male athletes aged 12-18 have experienced an oral-facial injury, with the number rising to an alarming 32% among football players. These figures highlight the importance of mouthguards in preventing dental trauma, which can range from chipped or broken teeth to more severe jaw injuries.Sports Mouthguards in Cleveland, TN By wearing a properly fitted performance mouthguard, athletes can significantly reduce the risk of such injuries, ensuring their focus remains on the game rather than on potential dental emergencies. Understanding Sports Mouthguards Mouthguards come in three main types: stock, boil-and-bite, and custom-fitted. Stock mouthguards: These basic mouthguards are pre-formed and ready to use. However, they don’t provide a secure fit and are, therefore, less effective. They also wear down rapidly and may require replacement mid-season. Boil-and-bite mouthguards: Boil-and-bite mouthguards can be softened in hot water and then shaped around the teeth. Although they offer a better fit, these last about as long as stock mouthguards. However, they can lose their fit over time, increasing the risk of injury. Custom-fitted mouthguards: Offered by dentists, these are the most comfortable and protective, as they are made from the best materials and tailored to each individual’s mouth. At The Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, our unique strength lies in being a family-run practice with three generations of dentists. This familial bond ensures a legacy of expert care and a deep commitment to providing the highest quality mouthguards for you or your child. When you opt for a custom mouthguard, we will take impressions of your teeth, which will be sent to a lab. Once your custom-created mouthpiece is ready, you’ll return for a final fitting at our office. Under Armour Performance Mouthwear™ At The Center for Cosmetic Dentistry in Cleveland, TN, we proudly offer Under Armour Performance Mouthwear™ as a tailored solution for athletes. This product uses the latest developments in design and technology to help athletes achieve peak performance. Teeth clenching, often an involuntary reaction during physical exertion, poses a risk to dental health. Under Armour’s custom-fitted Performance Mouthwear offers essential protection for athletes across various sports, including football, basketball, softball, and hockey. This allows athletes of all ages to train intensively and excel in their sport while safeguarding their teeth.

The Denture Fountain of Youth

If you’re one of the 36 million Americans looking for a way to replace all your teeth, there are many different denture options to choose from. Traditional dentures have been a staple in restorative dentistry for centuries, but they come with several problems. Common issues include poor fit that worsens over time and continual bone loss that changes your facial appearance. Luckily, other options are available that can address severe tooth loss. One option is The Denture Fountain of Youth. What Is The Denture Fountain of Youth? Fountain of Youth Dentures, or FOY Dentures, offer a modern solution to the common challenges of traditional dentures, including issues with fit and bone loss. Traditional dentures, like the ones your grandparents might have worn, were not designed to work with the muscles or structure of your face. They were simply placed in the mouth without much thought for how they fit. On the other hand, FOY Dentures are designed to move with you. This innovative approach ensures a more natural fit and prevents jawbone deterioration from long-term denture use. How Does The Denture Fountain of Youth Work? The Denture Fountain of Youth in Cleveland, TN The Denture Fountain of Youth® system relies on neuromuscular dentistry. Instead of accounting for just your teeth, neuromuscular dentistry considers your entire facial structure as an interconnected unit. Your muscles, joints, and teeth affect each other, and FOY Dentures are designed to work with them all. When we take impressions, we stimulate your facial muscles, enabling us to capture your full range of motion and create dentures that fit more securely and facilitate smoother speaking and eating. This method also helps preserve your jawbone’s density by distributing biting forces evenly, reducing the risk of bone loss associated with traditional dentures. Our dentists will shape your Fountain of Youth Dentures to ensure you maintain your proper facial structure. This attention to detail ensures that your dentures will improve oral function and give you a more youthful appearance. FOY Dentures are considered “cosmetic dentures” because they support the natural contours of your face, lift sagging facial muscles, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the mouth. This approach restores the proper proportion and symmetry to your face, often resulting in a more vibrant and youthful look. By meticulously tailoring the dentures to fit the unique structure of your jaw and facial muscles, we help to recreate the natural support your face would have with a full set of natural teeth, effectively turning back the clock on your appearance. The Issue With Poorly-Fitting Dentures Using traditional dentures comes with challenges, such as frequent professional adjustments, messy adhesives, and an unnatural appearance and feel. But the biggest issue remains their poor fit. Loose or “floating” dentures cause many problems, including: Soreness and irritation: Traditional dentures lose their fit over time. Once they no longer sit snugly along the gums, they cause irritation and discomfort as they slide around. Difficulty eating and speaking: Challenges in eating and speaking arise when your teeth lack stability, leading to speech difficulties. Additionally, consuming certain foods, such as steak, apples, and corn on the cob, can become nearly impossible. Unexpected embarrassment: Floating dentures come with the constant risk that they may shift or even come out of your mouth at the most inconvenient moments. While The Denture Fountain of Youth offers a better, more stable fit, implant dentures with mini dental implants facilitate the greatest level of stability and functionality.

I had my first visit with Dr. Ken Beard and his staff yesterday and they were all great. They welcomed me when I walked through the door and they quickly entered me into the system and got to work. I came to Dr Beard because over the last several months I had been told by 2 different dentists that I would soon be likely to lose most of my teeth. I came to find out about implants but Dr Beard and his staff started immediately with full X-rays, pictures and a full tooth by tooth assessment. At the end, he recommended no implants, but a full program of restorative work. I was thrilled at the plan. I met at least 5 of the staff. All were friendly and quickly and competently did their assignments. I don't believe I ever experienced a nicer dental appointment. I was referred to Dr. Beard by my sister and my wife who each have implants done by Dr. Beard.
