Went here for the free trial class, which was fun and the studio was clean. While we were still sitting on reformers, out came the sales pitch. I took a brochure and left. I was getting constant text messages about membership, so I texted “stop” to opt out of further messages. They called me literally 15 minutes later saying “we noticed you stopped receiving text messages…” and continued on their sales pitch. They called 3 or 4 days in a row leaving voicemails with the same sales message. I’m still getting calls! I’ve never had a fitness studio hound me this much after 1 free trial class. These practices have completely put me off of not only this Club Pilates but Club Pilates as a whole.

I recently cancelled my Club Pilates membership of over two years. This location has been really underwhelming the last few times I’ve gone and it made me decide that it was time to move on to a different studio. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I went to a Tuesday Morning class a few weeks ago and had the worst experience I think I’ve had there. The music was incredibly loud (I was on a reformer near the middle, not even the back where it’s usually louder) and when I went to ask the front desk girl who works Tuesday mornings now, I don’t know her name but a younger blonde girl. She just nodded and then as I turned to walk away she visibly rolled her eyes at me. Then as for the class, one of the biggest issues I’ve had with Club Pilates lately is that the music played in class is BAD. It is inconsistent across class formats at best and downright super incongruent with the workout at worst. (Except Amy Mott, she does an amazing job!) The worst of this is on Tuesday mornings with Teresa, who took over Jennifer’s classes this year who actually had lovely music, such as meditation type music for center and balance. For center and balance, Teresa will play SHOWTUNES. Frank Sinatra type showtunes that will grind your nerves first thing in the morning with lots of sound effects in the music. And then for reformer flow, she will play a playlist that is downright so un-motivating for a workout that it was actually distracting. This playlist includes the full version of Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley, the song from Titanic, and Josh Groban. Speaking of that, there are SEVERAL Christian music songs in the playlist. I actually am Christian, but I really find it unsettling when a workout class or a public place uses secular music. It feels very excluding and downright condescending. Teresa will play “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban and several other Christian music songs. This always makes me very uncomfortable and I thought it could have been a mistake at first but now it’s happened several times. Each time I’ve noticed several people looking around visibly uncomfortable. Anyways that class on Tuesday was terrible. I actually liked Teresa as an instructor but I do wish that she mixed up the moves in her classes sometimes because I definitely took the same class with her several times, even if it was different format (reformer flow vs center and balance) because it was usually the same flow. She is very knowledgeable. But the playlist is so distracting that it genuinely makes the whole experience annoying and you’ll be in such a bad mood by the time you leave. If you want a place that plays actual workout music or music that is appropriate for Pilates or working out at all, I recommend Solidcore or Bodyrok or Rhoe Pilates or Revive Pilates or almost any other studio that won’t play Kohl’s retail playlists. The playlists of Club Pilates will make you feel crazy. I had a friend leave for the same issue recently and I thought she was exaggerating at first but no. It’s gotten so much worse recently and there are instructors that will play music so genuinely bad and completely off putting with the exercises you’re doing that you will have to rearrange your schedule to not be in their classes and basically waste money by not being able to go several days of the week. I am begging Club Pilates to use music that came out in the last couple of years at least sometimes. Or at the very least music that isn’t completely at odds with the pacing the instructor is doing. Anyways, leaving a review to warn anyone like me that this will drive you nuts. If you care about music as a part of your workout I do not recommend this place. And I wish badly they had more variety per class. The workouts were great but it was not worth leaving in such a bad mood every single time.

If you have ever considered adding Pilates to your exercise routine, I urge you to take the complimentary introductory class at the Maryland Farms Club Pilates. I started in January, and I’ve been going every week since. Im now there multiple times a week. This is something everyone can do. From the staff to the instructors and the other members, everyone is welcoming and supportive. I’ve gone to multiple classes with Linda and Brooke and they are both so amazing!

Winning a one-month unlimited membership in fall 2024 was a game-changer for me. Since then, I’ve completed over 300 classes and shed almost 20 pounds, all while keeping my muscle intact. The studio is always clean and has a great variety of props, which keeps things fresh and fun. I love mixing my workouts with reformer flow, center & balance, and some cardio sculpt classes. The unlimited membership lets you book up to 15 classes at a time with any of the locations under the same owner, which is a lifesaver for my unpredictable work schedule. What I appreciate most is the friendly atmosphere. I've never felt body shamed here, and the staff are genuinely supportive. If you’re looking for a community where you can thrive, I recommend giving CP a try!
