While I have encountered several kind and efficient people the majority of the process has been horrible, taxing, and stressful. Previously reported on a survey with no one responding or seeming to care. Good feedback: -Sarah always returned calls, provided accurate info, great customer service. -Marc very knowledgeable of power wheelchairs and kind -Prefer great customer service, good communication and training Negative feedback: -first wheelchair I was placed in was not appropriate for my diagnosis or height. group 1. hip pain, leg flopping, non adj head restroom neck pain -first wheelchair kept blowing fuses. no one could tell me why. paid a fortune to replace joystick and controller a d Stull kept lowing fuses. last time the tech was here I was told they would call ft for help and get back to me. never did. -I sat with the dr may 2025 and helped him make chart notes describing the medical need for a group 2. these were shared with nsm. I did not get the new chair until 5.27.26. on top of that, I had to pay copay for another dr visit to get the same notes redone with a new date because NSM drug their feet. -nsm claimed ins terminated when they had an job in front of them for part replacement -nsm kept faxig docs to the wrong fax no even though I and dr gave them no twice so many things. if you use them be prepared to keep a calendar and monitor everything closely. follow up with dr and nsm repeatedly.

How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
