Came in today for my son’s appointment. When it was time to do his exam, I was told I needed to pay $83 . I proceeded to ask if VSP not in network. The lady told me “yes and no” I asked her which one is it. She states that it’s not in network but they give a discount on the eye exam. I did ask her why wasn’t the website updated to show that They aren’t in network with VSP. She then proceeds to tell me that they are separate from LensCrafter And that VSP was in network with them. When it was time to Pick out glasses I gave them my son’s insurance information. They proceeded to ask me for my dad, Social Security Number for the member ID. I told them that I did not have it and Me giving them his actual name DOB and the member ID Was enough to see the coverage. They stated again that it was needed only for them to type in the actual member ID and his information came up. When it was time to pay for his glasses The lady that I was dealing with(never caught her name) Ask for the member ID again and then proceeded to ask me for my son’s last four. She then says I am not sure if the system would even let me proceed without your dad’s social . I then tell her to do everything Without their insurance and I will see if VSP would pay me back. I did call my dad To make him aware of what was going on during the conversation, I stated that they were hounding me for his social, and I wasn’t comfortable giving it because they didn’t need to pull up his policy. Due to my comment, the lady really walked off and said “I’m done” . Another lady came over. I assumed she was the supervisor and asked what was going on. I then explain the situation. And reiterated that I was not comfortable, giving out his social and it wasn’t needed. She then proceeds to say that VSP requires customers to give Their social I proceeded to say I have never had to give my social when dealing with VSP. She didn’t ask me what I feel more comfortable if I typed it in and I again Declined. I told her we will go elsewhere to get my son’s glasses. Before I pulled off, I called VSP to verify if one social security number was needed And the representative told me that that was not true as long as they had the member ID. Name and DOB. All information could be pulled up that way. He also stated that VSP was not in network with them. So I was lied to, from the jump. And even throughout that whole interaction they didn’t have enough decency to let me know my Insurance wasn’t in network with them to let me decide if I still wanted to proceeded with the appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions About LensCrafters

How do I know if my child needs glasses?

Taking your child to an optometrist for an eye exam is the best way to learn if your child needs glasses. Many children who need glasses aren’t aware that they do. Signs of vision problems in children include sitting too close to the television, squinting, sensitivity to light, difficulty with eye-hand coordination, and avoiding visual activities like reading and drawing. To see if your child needs glasses, schedule your child’s eye exam today.

Is a contact lens exam different than an eye exam?

A normal, comprehensive eye exam will allow your optometrist to determine if your eyes are healthy enough to wear contact lenses. During your contact lens fitting, detailed measurements of your eyes will be taken to determine the right contact lenses for you. There is an additional fee for a contact lens fitting and evaluation for all contact lens patients (both new and established patients). Schedule your eye exam today to have all of your questions about contact lenses answered.
