I can’t say enough good things about the Charleston Recovery Center. This place truly saved my life. From day one, they helped me dive into the Big Book study, and you will learn exactly how to recover. They have volleyball, basketball, a place to lift weights, a huge yard and a pool there’s plenty of food to eat. Sometimes they take you out to eat. They also take you on outings. I went to my first concert with them, went to top golf and also a theater play. They bring in guest speakers and different anonymous groups to share their wisdom everyday, which really opened my eyes. A lot of residents that have commenced come back to help others and you can see their program works if you’re willing to listen and do the work. The staff Jet, Valhalla, Gene, Thomas, Christina, Ryan, KT, Amber and Matt are some of the most intelligent people when it comes to recovery and most supportive people I’ve ever met. They take recovery seriously they truly care about your well being. They might be a little tough on you, but that’s only because they care about your life. Thanks to them, I gained the tools and understanding I needed to start my recovery. I owe them everything. Thank you for everything!!!!

So I went to the Hope a year ago broken and battered I was a victim of domestic violence and my ex boyfriend almost killed me and I was really bad off on drinking and drugs. Was homeless living pit of a hotel. I had never been to rehab before and didn't want to go but I did and I was not all about it but the staff really does care and want to see u succeed with sobriety. I am very grateful that I went there. Hated it for 75% of the time but it does work and I am living proof. Yesterday I got my 1 year chip and I owe it all to the staff and this program.. I am a completely different person now and love being sober

Its been one year to this day, I've been sober. So i thought it would be time to write a review. One year ago I was at the Hospital in a hopeless state of mind and body. Had a great job, had great friends, on the surface my life looked plentiful. This was wrong, I was living in my own prison physically sick and mentally lost. At the moment I had a choice, 1:) to go back to my hotel room hope I dont drink myself to death or 2:) Seek help. It was actually a very difficult decision. That i could not make on my own. Thank God my mother got in touch with CRC. They called me in the hospital, which gave me a sense of clarity in the moment. I took a leap of faith. Spent 120 days in the program at CRC. Well worth it. There are plenty of pros and cons coming to CRC. What they are: A house full of men and women who have shared the same struggle that you are facing. People who have found a solution that keeps them sober 1 day at a time. What they provide: a house to physically get sober, with plenty of food. A Community that will become family in short time if you allow it. Guidance towards a solution that will actually work today. What they are NOT: A medically staffed detox center (I HIGHLY encourage you to go to the hospital to safely detox off of alcohol and drugs) they are NOT a place full of therapists and doctors. They are PEOPLE just like you, just like me. Pros: lifelong membership to a community that will always be there to help. For FREE. Physical, mental and Spiritual Guidance. Great meetings hosted by addicts and alcoholics. Cons: Communal living (was easy to embrace the suck, former military) Communal bathrooms. (As long as everyone is doing their chores its fine) Chores ( suck it up and do something for someone other than yourself.) The price to pay for 90 to 120 days of recovery here, is nothing compared to the YEARs of misery we had to pay already. Take the leap. After your 90 days it is up to YOU to continue this wonderful chapter of your life.

The program itself and the way it’s worked it’s an awesome program. I believe it heals and can be a positive experience. As far as the living conditions a lot needs to be updated and cleaned. The place is not the cleanest of places at all. There are animals in and out of the place as they please. Cats, dogs anyone that has been through the program can basically let their animals roam free all over the house. The mattress I slept on was filthy. The chores never get done. More times than not the dishes I had to use were still filthy. Greasy feeling and just nasty. Don’t expect a comfortable stay if u have the slightest OCD you’ll be so uncomfortable. About 2 weeks in to the program a guy comes in totally trashed and tweaking and kept the whole house up all night. Saying ppl were after us and watching us. Kept coming into peoples rooms waking ppl up. Walking behind people and standing there freaking many of us out. The guy didn’t sleep a wink and neither did I. I was so miserable the next day I couldn’t focus on anything. So me and 3 others went to staff about it because we felt literally threatened for our lives most of the night. Nobody slept good. And we got told to keep an eye on him for the next day or so lol. Staff leaves at night so it’s you and the residents alone. They let anyone come in no matter how high or how drunk they are. The staff acts half miserable more days than not. We even called in the middle of the night for help because of the guy tweaking out so bad. One of the staff members tells us to call 911 if it gets bad. The food is expired. I got a couple snacks that went bad 3 months prior. It’s a living disaster in my personal opinion. Like I said the way the program is worked I feel is very helpful if u can get past the nastiness and lack of help and lack of empathy from most of the staff. $4,000 for the first month for expired food and disgusting living conditions. So much down time you feel like you’re going insane. Literally walked around the place 10,000 times in 2 1/2 weeks. So much down time it’s depressing. Don’t bother complaining to staff about it cause you’ll get pretty much the cold shoulder. I didn’t expect to be in a top notch clean facility but also didn’t expect the filth and lack of empathy or how careless staff would be either. A guy comes in tweaking telling us people are after us saying there is someone in the yard watching us, waking everyone up and coming into rooms in the early morning hours and staff literally tells us to keep an eye on him and call 911. Don’t even waste your money. There has to surely be better options! I mentioned the filthy living conditions to them and about the guy that came in and nothing was done about either. And after all this they wouldn’t give us a dime of our money back. I did learn a lot of good things about recovery and AA I won’t lie I did. But it’s very hard to stay there at least with the group I was with. All I’m saying is if you’re paying out of pocket like I did. Find a better place. A cleaner place with staff who actually gives a damn about you and your well being! Maybe this wasn’t the experience for all but for me and quiet a few others it was a disaster. Maybe make ppl who are tweaking go to detox first and maybe clean the place up a little and get food that’s in date. It could be a lot better. If you can live through filth and nobody caring how you feel. Go ahead and try it out. For me it wasn’t worth the money they ask for! I have absolutely no clue how there aren’t more complaints about this place. People obviously don’t care to live in filth and be around tweaked out people who are super paranoid while trying to better yourself! And to top it off one of the residents filled up a drinking cup with water and placed it on the kitchen counter for the house cat to drink out of.
