- CDCheryl DouganApr 17, 20261.0Response times over the past few years have been way too long. I've had to call multiple times to get a response. My son's provider agency also calls to get service. The delay between when the wheelchair clinic finalizes measurements and when we get the chair can take over a year. It's a nightmare!!! Our son has been a wheelchair user for 29 years. We know when the process isn't working. I'd go somewhere else if there were a choice in the Lehigh Valley. The representative here needs an assistant; perhaps a second hire to the company? I think the problem may be that the representative works on commission and is hesitant to share customers. Perhaps the company should pay its representatives a living wage rather than having them work on commission?

He got it in March and walk or stand up because he's off balance. This 4 weeks we are waiting for a new changer!

How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?

Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
