I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but after almost two months of dealing with issue after issue and no communication follow-through from the company, I felt like I needed to share my experience. Hopefully this will save someone else the headache, time, and money I wish I could’ve saved!
I first reached out to this company about a safety problem with my son’s wheelchair. One of the wheels would shift out of place and lock up, which was obviously a serious concern. I submitted a service request and was told someone would get in touch. Instead, I spent four straight days calling, leaving voicemails, and following up before I finally got a repair appointment scheduled.
The appointment ended up being scheduled almost a month out. During that call, the representative was pretty unfriendly, and when I asked to participate in the customer satisfaction survey mentioned at the start of the call, the call suddenly disconnected. Maybe it was a coincidence, maybe not, but it definitely didn’t leave a great impression.
After that, I called to report my concerns and was told the complaint would be escalated and someone would contact me. Nobody ever did.
A month later, I called a few days before the repair appointment just to make sure everything was still on schedule. I was told it was. Then, on the day of the appointment, after the technician’s arrival window had already passed, I called to see what was going on. That’s when I found out the appointment had actually been rescheduled the day before for another month later. No phone call, no voicemail, no email, no text—nothing.
I understand that things happen, and I was later told the technician had gotten sick. The problem wasn’t that the appointment had to be rescheduled. The problem was that nobody bothered to tell us. My son’s wheelchair repair had already been delayed for a month, and we were left completely in the dark.
When I expressed my frustration, I was met with more unprofessional behavior instead of any real empathy or accountability. I was transferred to escalation support (whose “I don’t care” attitude was literally oozing through the phone) and repeatedly assured that someone from corporate would reach out. To this day, nobody has.
Eventually, I gave up on having a technician come to us and drove about 90 minutes each way to bring the wheelchair in myself. After waiting longer than the estimated evaluation time, I finally asked for an update and was told it had already been finished. No one had let me know. When I got the wheelchair back, nobody explained what had been fixed, what caused the issue, or what had been done to prevent it from happening again… Just a signature so they could bill insurance (I’m sure they had no problem doing that in a timely manner).
Not every employee I dealt with was unpleasant. A few people were genuinely kind and helpful, and I appreciate that. Unfortunately, the overall experience was marked by poor communication, lack of follow-through, zero accountability, and repeated unprofessional interactions.
Families who depend on mobility equipment already have enough on their plates. We shouldn’t have to spend weeks chasing people down, wondering whether appointments still exist, or fighting just to get basic communication. My son is due for a new wheelchair soon, and based on this experience, I’ll absolutely be looking for a different vendor.

I had an appointment scheduled and James never showed up so it was rescheduled for a week later and again no show and no call call from James or nsm. I have been without my power chair for 8 weeks now. I did even get an apology when I called. I called off work so I could get my chair serviced. Now my chair is still not working and I am out 2 day pay. My job is my only income. I could not give less then 1 star or I would have.

We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
