It's taken me some time to finally sit down and write this, but I've been meaning to for a while. How do you write a review for someone who has genuinely changed your life?
I met with Dana for a consultation, and I knew right away she was the right fit for this journey. I had no real idea what hypnosis was about. I had a lot of wrong assumptions, but something told me it was worth trying.
For context: I'm a gay man in my mid-thirties. I experienced intense childhood trauma, both from specific traumatic events and from difficult family dynamics, and it shaped me my whole life. Not in a way where I consciously dwelled on it, but it would creep into my relationships, my emotions, my reactions, all unconsciously. I wanted healing, and I wanted to try hypnosis to find it.
Not everyone clicks with everyone, and that's okay, but I'd encourage you to give the consult a chance and see if you connect with Dana. She is one of the most caring, compassionate people I've encountered. She has real experience and a gift for meeting you exactly where you are, never forcing anything, letting the process unfold at the pace your nervous system can actually handle.
In my first session, my nervous system wasn't ready to settle enough to access my subconscious, which is where, Dana explained, all of those old memories and behaviors actually live. She told me hypnosis is something we naturally move in and out of every day; it's simply a state where the nervous system quiets enough for the subconscious to become accessible. That's what sessions with her feel like. Since I wasn't ready that first time, she gave me homework to help my body learn it was safe to look at these things.
When we tried again, she guided my body into a real state of relaxation, and she knew exactly what to ask once I was there. That's the quiet magic of this work: in that place, your subconscious shows you exactly what you need to see, clearly. For me, and I suspect for many people, what I thought was the problem wasn't actually the problem. My subconscious showed me what was really underneath it. In that very first session, I experienced healing that felt genuinely life-changing.
Dana walked me into the place where I had been holding all the pain from my childhood, and she guided me to rescue my younger self from it, the part of me I'd unknowingly locked away with that pain. I've been different ever since. I honestly can't fully put into words what she's helped me do for my life.
I continued with more sessions to work through other things connected to that same goal, and each one brought the same kind of clarity. I learned how to access my subconscious mind, and how to calm my nervous system when it drops into fight-or-flight. Now, when something triggers that old place in me, I can meet it. I can let that part of myself know things are different now, that it's here with me in the present, not stuck in the past, and that there are other ways to hold these feelings than the ones I learned as a child to survive.
I cannot recommend hypnosis, and Dana specifically, enough. It has been absolutely life-changing. I'm deeply grateful to her for the guidance and care she gave me. Years of traditional therapy never got me to this kind of healing. One session with Dana brought me deeper, more lasting healing than I'd found in a lifetime of trying elsewhere.
I asked Dana Atwood to help me quitting smoking—and not only did I quit, but we also made progress with other issues like insomnia & anxiety.
Dana is incredibly skilled, compassionate, and professional. She made me feel completely safe and supported from day one. Her warmth and understanding made our sessions so enjoyable, even when we explored some really hard times from my childhood that had contributed to the issues. She taught me powerful ways to cope better in case any of those memories pop up again in the future.
What I learned is that hypnosis isn’t a magic trick—it’s similar to counseling in that it took work and commitment from both of us. I always felt completely in control while hypnotized and could (and did) stop it at any moment. Dana guided me with patience, insight, and encouragement. She also sent me several personalized recordings to listen to whenever I wanted and she tweaked them as I requested and as we moved through things. I felt like we had a true partnership, and it worked: I quit smoking!! I can already taste and smell better. I’m so happy to know I no longer have smelly clothes and I am super excited about saving money too.
If you’re ready to make real, lasting changes in your life, I can’t recommend Dana highly enough. She helped me take back control, and I’m ever so grateful.
