I had a very disappointing experience at the Safeway Pharmacy on 18th Avenue. I arrived at approximately 6:50 PM, ten minutes before closing, to pick up medication that my provider had just prescribed. I was feeling anxious and rushed to the store because I needed the medication that evening. When I arrived, another customer was being helped, so I stood behind the stanchion where customers are instructed to wait for privacy. While I was standing there, the pharmacist, Penny, spoke to me in a loud and abrupt tone, asking, “What do you want?” in front of other customers. I explained that I was simply glad I had made it before closing. She then told me to step away for privacy, even though I was already standing in the designated waiting area. The interaction felt confusing and unnecessarily dismissive. When it was my turn, the cashier asked whether these were new medications, and I confirmed that they were. Since I had never taken either prescription before, I expected the pharmacist to provide a brief explanation about how to take them, possible side effects, and what to expect. Instead, I was told to scan the QR codes on the paperwork for that information. I understand that pharmacies can be busy, but this was my first time taking these medications, and I would have appreciated even a short consultation. The pharmacist’s demeanor came across as cold, impatient, and unprofessional. I have never felt so unwelcome at a pharmacy. Because of this experience, I do not plan to return to this location. I will also be informing my healthcare provider that I did not receive any counseling on these new prescriptions. Patients deserve to be treated with courtesy and compassion, especially when they are picking up medications they may urgently need.

03/19/26 the pharmacist at the window on the far left with the long brown hair was horribly ablist and needlessly cruel towards me first thing this morning. She gave me a rude look as soon as she saw me and I was very polite but she met most of my questions with silence or a hard stare. I explained I'm disabled and have to get my prescriptions filled in one trip or come back later with a helper and she kept telling me that wasn't the case and taking a really messed up tone of voice with me telling me I can just pick them up, it was so horrible I'm never going back to this store let alone this pharmacy

The pharmacy is usually busy but the pharmacists Dale and Penny are my favorite and make it worth the long wait. I am a regular there (feels like I am there every week ugh) and appreciate the great customer service and friendly pharm techs who manage the front end. Highly recommend 👌
