Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and resources to take control of your health and achieve the best possible outcomes, all while reducing the risk of medication errors or complications.

People often present for individual counseling in order to address a mental health condition (depression, anxiety, etc.), difficulties adjusting to life changes, address past traumas, evaluate patterns in relationships with others, identification of an individual pathway to a more fulfilling life, and many other reasons. Couple’s counseling allows both individuals in a relationship to meet together with a therapist for the purpose of addressing concerns. Common concerns for couples presenting to therapy are ineffective communication, reduced/lack of intimacy, loss of connected feelings, loss of closeness, honesty of one or both partners, infidelity, financial stressors, conflict with/about children, and general conflict. The marital status, duration of relationship, sexual orientation, gender identification, and any other attributes do not influence whether or not a couple may seek treatment. Capital Private Psychological Services and its providers welcome all people regardless of any personal or situational individualities.

It is quite common for children and adolescents to periodically need someone to speak with whom they can process challenges, concerns, thoughts, or general life changes and adjustments. Engaging your child in therapy is a wonderful way to assure your child has the opportunity to process and address concerns as they come along. Parents and guardians are an important part of therapy for minors and are encouraged to be involved with their child’s treatment and receive updates on advancements throughout the care they receive. Several choices are available for the structure of initial sessions when children are referred for therapy: For a child who is 12 years old or younger, the first visit will involve time with just the parent(s) or guardian(s) and the therapist. This affords each person the opportunity to speak freely about concerns, provide information about the child, and discuss goals for desired outcomes. Following the initial visit, sessions will involve the child with the parent(s) or guardian(s) present for any period of time and frequency that is best for the therapeutic process and supporting the child. The child may also meet one on one with the therapist. The decision about whether or not the session will occur with just the child is one that is made by the parent and child. For a child who is between the ages of 13 and 17, the process is the same as outlined above for individuals 12 years old and younger. The exception to this is that the first session can but does not have to occur with only the parent(s) or caregiver(s).

Family counseling is available to the family unit that seeks to address challenges of any nature. Common reasons families choose to come to therapy together are to assist with the transition process of a divorce, the transition process of blending families together, the effects of past challenges, navigate individual or family issues, or other mental health concerns. Family counseling involves sessions with the entire family, individual sessions, and small groups within the family. The marital status, duration of relationships, duration of the family as a unit, sexual orientations, gender identifications, and any other attributes do not influence whether or not a family may or needs to seek treatment. Capital Private Psychological Services and its providers welcome all people and families regardless of any personal or situational individualities.

Spiritual counseling is offered for individuals who identify a desire or need to seek support with personal beliefs or conflicts with faith. Religious affiliations and beliefs are not required and are only incorporated into treatment if specifically requested. Respect and acceptance for each individual’s views on any issue are important values held at Capital Private Psychological Services. Our therapists do not offer or impose any personal beliefs onto clients or into the treatment process regardless of any client’s request for the inclusion of spiritual beliefs in his or her treatment process.
