The Central Parkway YMCA is a 4 story fitness center on the edge of Over the Rhine and Downtown Cincinnati. It has been serving the community since 1917 and offer lap swimming, cardio and strength lines, fitness classes, full-court gymnasium, cycling, pickleball, racquetball and more.
I am very disappointed with the customer service I have received while trying to obtain a membership at the Central Parkway YMCA in downtown Cincinnati.
I have submitted my membership application and request forms, but I have been unsuccessful in getting a response from Shelly Spiegel, who I was told is responsible for handling my membership. I have tried reaching out by email, but I have not received a response or a return phone call. There doesn't appear to be a straightforward way to contact her directly by phone, which makes the process even more frustrating.
I have asked staff and volunteers if there is someone above her whom I can contact for assistance, but I was given the impression that there was nobody else to speak with. After doing my own research, however, I found other members of the YMCA's leadership team whom I intend to contact in hopes of getting this matter resolved.
I understand that people get busy, but when someone submits an application and makes repeated attempts to follow up, I believe a response or a clear explanation of the next steps is the least they should expect. It should not be this difficult just to become a member.
I do want to acknowledge that the Deaf members I have interacted with have been very kind to me, and I appreciate those positive interactions. My disappointment is specifically with the lack of communication and the difficulty I have experienced trying to get my membership application processed.
What makes this especially frustrating is that I live right by this YMCA. I chose this location because it is convenient for me, and it would be a shame to have to travel farther to another YMCA simply because I cannot get assistance with my application at the location closest to my home.
I hope YMCA leadership takes these concerns seriously and improves communication and accountability so that prospective members can receive the assistance they need. I am still hoping to become a member, but this experience has certainly left me disappointed with the process so far.

I visited this YMCA location while I was on vacation in Cincinnati. The weight room and equipment was very clean and all equipment was in working order. The front desk representative even gave me and my husband a tour of the extra amenities. I was pleasantly surprised to see they offered all members 2 towels as part of their membership. I will come again when I visit downtown Cincinnati!

I am giving this 1 star review of the YMCA on Central not because of the staff and facility. I am giving it because the YMCA administration on the third floor have no idea what goes on in their building. I have been a member of that Y for almost ten years. I have enjoyed working out there on a regular basis. The staff, which turns over frequently, are overall friendly and helpful. I work out weekly with John the personal trainer. Many friends have been asking me for a card for him. It has been over six months and John cannot get a business card printed. Apparently the person authorized to order the cards is out on leave for an undetermined period of time. New equipment was installed over a year ago. It took almost a year to get signs placed asking people to put the weights back after using them and to stop dropping the weights when using the machines. The signs apparently had to go through "branding" approval. Within the past month an ice cream truck came to provide ice cream for the third floor employees. The staff that work the front desk, clean the facility, do the laundry, as well as deal with anything that comes up during the day could not get any ice cream. I tried to go to the third floor to express my concerns directly to a live human being. I could not access the floor as it is locked down like a bank vault. The executive/administrative staff clearly do not want to see or hear from the internal or external customers. There is no security at all on the floors where activities occur. The Central Y is a great place to work out and meet people. It is run like any other large corporation these days.
