As we age, our ability,to regenerate new skin cells and collagen diminishes. Years of trauma to our skin leaves a lasting mark. Contributing to aging factors such as scarring, pigmentation, fine lines, and overall increase pore size and texture. There are a wide array of effective methods to treat and rejuvenate your skin, ranging from laser treatments and new technologies such as microneedling. Microneedling is a method of introducing a controlled wound into the skin triggering a release of natural growth factors, new collagen and elastin. This process causes less damage to the epidermis than dermal rolling and other ablative treatments. Miconeedling stimulates the new skin cell growth and, providing quicker healing leading to long lasting skin rejuvenation. What is Automated MicroNeedling? Automated Microneedling is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scaring and overall improvement of skin appearance. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. A topical serum is also applied to clean skin (in most cases your practitioner will use a hyaluronic acid) this soothing product is chosen to help the safety microneedle cartridge glide smoothly across the skin’s surface while delivering the mechanical injury necessary to bring about the necessary change, and simultaneously delivering Hyaluronic Acid (HA) – the building blocks for healthy new skin – deep into the skin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with the appearance of softer wrinkles. Automated microneedling also creates superficial micro-channels which allow topical serums, and creams to be absorbed more effectively into the skin. How is microneedling different? Microneedling rollers are the previous generation of needling devices. One of the many drawbacks is that dermal rollers have a fixed needle or penetration depth (i.e. 0.5mm) which is not very conducive when treating an area like the face which requires different depths due to the thickness of skin tissue, which varies in depth tremendously depending on the area being treated. Therefore, having a fixed needle depth or penetration level is a huge drawback when trying to customize a treatment for consistency. Microneedling has an adjustable needle depth that allows your skincare provider to vary the depth of penetration throughout the entire treatment. This will allow Dr. Elyse S. Rafal, to properly address the specific needs of thinner skin on your lower eyelids, crow’s feet, and forehead. Additionally where the tissue is thicker in other areas like the upper lip, cheeks (due to fat pads), neck, and décolletage, the necessary adjustments can easily be treated with 1 needle tip instead of 5 or 6 needle rollers. What will happen during your microneedling treatment? When you arrive your skin will be cleansed and a topic anesthetic will be applied 30 minutes prior to your treatment. Your anesthetic will then be removed and your skin will be cleansed again to make sure there is nothing on your skin prior to treatment. Your cosmetic nurse will apply a thin layer of topical Hyaluronic serum to your skin and select the appropriate treatment depth based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, we will be gently glided across the skin in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. This results in thousands of microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area. The repair process, Collagen Induction Therapy, begins almost immediately. Fibroblasts – the cells that synthesize new collagen – are active for up to as much as one year after just one treatment. Depending on your specific needs additional serums may be added. Doctor Elyse S. Rafal, will select the appropriate needle depth and number of passes required to properly treat your concerns based upon your individal skin health and skin regimen. many patients may need a series of treatments to achieve their desired goals. This will be determined upon a through complimentary consultation with Dr.Elyse S. Rafal. What Is Microneedling With PRP? To increase the healing process, microneedling is enhanced by injecting and infusing PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) into the skin. The PRP is obtained from drawing your blood, then the blood is centrifuged, and your plasma is separated to concentrate healing properties. Microneedling with PRP can be used in many areas of the body, including the face, neck, arms, décolleté, abdomen, back, hands and legs. PRP is used as a regenerative healing technique that accelerates the body’s natural healing processes, your treated area of the skin can restore and rejuvenate for a firmer, more youthful texture and increased flexibility.

PRP Injection Therapy For Hair Loss PRP injections are a proactive therapeutic option for male and female patients experiencing hair loss. PRP is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who require stimulation of hair growth for hair loss conditions. Recent scientific research and technology provide the medical community with new understandings of wound and tissue healing. As a result of these scientific studies, we recognize PRP is an all-natural medical procedure performed in our offices, by Dr. Elyse S. Rafal, for scalp, skin, and hair stimulation. How does PRP work? Human blood contains stem cells, and autologous blood products that contain essential and specific growth factors that assist in tissue regeneration and healing. PRP has been used a medial adjunct therapy for over two decades for skin and wound healing. PRP therapy has established itself to be effective as a medical treatment modality in the specialty fields of oral surgery, neurosurgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery, sports medicine and orthopedics. It has been used extensively in these specialties for the last twenty years with generally positive outcomes and success. In the field of hair restoration, evidence supports PRP therapy as a promising treatment option to promote hair growth. What should I expect during my office visits? The first office visit will be a complimentary consultation, with Dr. Elyse S. Rafal and her cosmetic nurse, to evaluate the patients condition, medical history and discuss treatment options. During this consult, Dr. Rafal will evaluate how many treatments will be needed to stimulate hair regeneration. On average most patients need 3 treatments, spaced one month apart for full results. Many patients still may require further treatments and even some follow up treatments, in the future to maintain the results. Once the treatment plan is personally designed for the patient, Dr. Elyse S. Rafal’s cosmetic nurse will schedule your injection therapy dates. On some occasions the PRP Injection Therapy appointment can be done on the same day. The second visit, will be for your PRP Injection Therapy. Upon arrival to our office, you will be greeted by our front desk staff and escorted to our procedure room by our cosmetic nurse. Once in the procedure room, our nurse will personally go over each consent forms and inform you on home care, follow up and answer any further questions you may have. Once all forms are signed, the nurse will take your before and after pictures, exclusively for your medical records. Then our cosmetic nurse will draw your blood, and prepare your plasma for the injection therapy. The blood is spun in a centrifuge and the PRP is separated and removed from the rest of the blood. The PRP is taken from your body and is specially prepared by spinning down the blood cells to a high concentration.Dr. Elyse S. Rafal, will review your custom designed treatment plan and inject your plasma rich protein into the scalp. The injections on average lasts about 2-3 min. The patient may drive home without any assistance, Follow up for all appointments in 28 days. The science of PRP injection therapy PRP contains special cells called Platelets, that can cause growth of the hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells and other cells in the of the hair follicle. These special Platelet cells promote healing, accelerates the rate and degree of tissue healing and regeneration, responds to injury, and formation of new cellular growth. The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive hair follicles into an active growth phase. PRP specific cells that causes hair growth include: Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF)—promotes blood vessel growth, cell replication, skin formation Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b)—promotes growth of matrix between cells, bone metabolism Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)—promotes blood vessel formation Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)—promotes cell growth and differentiation, blood vessel formation, collagen formation Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2)—promotes growth of specialized cells and blood vessel formation Insulin Like Growth Factor – (IGF)—a regulator of normal physiology in nearly every type of cell in the body. Dr. Elyse S. Rafal, offers all PRP Injection Therapy consults complimentary. Our team is dedicated to providing results for our patients! Call 631.689.0300 to schedule your consult.

For many years, the medical community has been acutely aware of the body’s natural regenerative qualities. Physicians across all fields, including orthopedics, dentistry, and sports medicine, have implemented protocols that work synergistically with the body. The use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is common for promoting joint recovery and managing degenerative disease. It was only a matter of time before science discovered the value that PRP held for the body’s largest organ: the skin. We are pleased to offer PRP treatments to help our patients address their cosmetic concerns. What is PRP? PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is an organic substance that has long been advocated for its ability to facilitate tissue regeneration and wound healing. The substance exists in every person’s blood, which makes it safe and convenient. PRP is obtained through a simple blood draw and centrifuge (spinning) process. Centrifugation of the blood separates nutrient-rich platelets from red blood cells and other product. Platelets are valuable because they contain a large number of growth factors. These include epithelial and vascular epithelial growth factors as well as fibroblast and connective tissue growth factors. Each type of growth promotes vital processes such as inflammatory response, blood vessel regeneration, tissue remodeling, and cell proliferation. What are the benefits of platelet-rich plasma injections? The growth factors contained in platelet-rich plasma are involved in almost every regenerative process in the body. When PRP is injected just beneath the skin, it stimulates collagen proliferation through which a number of benefits occur. PRP injections add volume to areas of the face that have begun to droop or atrophy. The cheeks can be rounded out and under eye hollows that cause dark circles and bags can be softened. Due to ongoing collagen remodeling, PRP injections also promote softer, smoother, tighter skin over time. Injections of platelet-rich plasma are also beneficial because they are safe for all skin types and tones. The organic nature of treatment, using your own blood product, significantly reduces the potential for side effects such as allergic response. How does PRP work for aesthetic rejuvenation? Platelet-rich plasma is used in two ways to improve the appearance and overall vitality of the skin. The product may be injected beneath wrinkles, hollows, and areas of deflation and it may also be applied topically in a gentle microneedling procedure. The way that PRP improves texture, volume, and radiance is by inducing numerous regenerative processes. The various growth factors that exist within blood plasma provide essential proteins, electrolytes, hormones, and other nutrients to the skin. Proteins are integral to the formation of fibrin polymer which lays a strong foundation for firm, youthful tissue. Platelets within the plasma naturally respond to injuries in the body, prompting accelerated tissue regeneration through vascular and cellular regrowth. How long do PRP injections take? PRP treatment with injections takes only slightly longer than an average injectable treatment. We begin with a standard blood draw. If desired, a topical numbing cream can be applied to the treatment area while blood is processed in the centrifuge. This takes just a few minutes. The provider carefully observes the face and may mark areas where injections are recommended. The entire process is typically complete within 15 to 20 minutes. Microneedling with PRP is also brief, taking approximately 30 minutes from start to finish. What happens after the PRP Procedure? Patients can resume normal activity immediately following their PRP procedure. Slight redness and swelling should be expected. Some patients notice minor bruising. These side effects typically disappear within the first day after treatment. How long will it take to see results? Patients who undergo microneedling with PRP may notice an immediate boost in the radiance and softness of their skin. PRP injections work beneath the surface to restructure the collagen matrix in superficial tissue, so results from injections alone become more noticeable after a few weeks. As healing mechanisms increase, patients notice improvements such as: Smoother texture due to improved collagen formation. More radiance due to new blood vessel formation. Fresher, younger-looking skin due to the influx of vital nutrients. What are the advantages of PRP vs. other injectables? Studies have indicated that patients treated with platelet-rich plasma facials and facelifts find that their results continue to improve over time. Several months after treatment, the effects of cellular regeneration may be even more noticeable than they are right after microneedling or injections. This is because plasma stimulates cellular activity in which collagen and elastin are remodeled.

Injectables

BOTOX® Cosmetic Look younger , increase your confidence, feel better! BOTOX® Cosmetic is a highly purified protein injected into the skin to relax the muscles that cause some kinds of wrinkles. While BOTOX Cosmetic can treat certain medical conditions, such as excessive sweating, it is most commonly used for cosmetic purposes, primarily to reduce wrinkles on the face and neck. BOTOX Cosmetic injections are relatively painless, as the needle used is significantly smaller than those used for other injectable fillers. Jeuveau -Newtox Jeuveau is used by both men and women to treat fine lines and wrinkles, and is an alternative to Botox Dysport, and Xeomin. Jeuveau, also known as #NEWTOX, is another purified form of botulinum toxin that has been shown to deliver temporary improvement in moderate to severe frown lines by blocking the signal from the nerve to the muscles, ultimately resulting in a reduction of muscle activity, temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines and reducing the appearance of movement lines. Jeuveau is another excellent, non-surgical option that reduces the effects of aging and helps regain a more youthful appearance. The results of Jeuveau (or competitive neurotoxin brands such as Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin) can last anywhere from three to four months. Jeuveau and other brand name toxins are priced based on the number of units used on the individual, and how much you will require is based on the areas you need treated and overall severity of wrinkles. Dysport Move toward a natural look. Wrinkles aren’t your style and the “frozen look” isn’t either. For adults who want a natural look, there’s Dysport, a prescription injection proven to help smooth the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows without changing the look or movement of the rest of your face. Untreated muscles still work normally, so you can continue to express feelings naturally. It’s the lines that are minimized, not your expressions. Xeomin Say Goodbye to Frown Lines Day to day, the muscles of your face are constantly exercised as you outwardly express your emotions—from laughter to concern, your expressions are part of what make you unique. Unfortunately, these muscle contractions can start to take a toll on our appearance as we age. Glabellar lines often develop between the eyebrows, creating pesky “11” creases that stick around regardless of what you’re feeling. Not only do these lines age the face, they also give the appearance of negative emotion. If you’re feeling self-conscious about your frown lines, XEOMIN® may be the perfect solution for you. XEOMIN is a botulinum toxin A that works in much the same way as products like Botox or Dysport, to smooth out wrinkles on the brow by reducing muscle movement. How it Works When you frown, squint, or smile, the muscles between your eyebrows contract and cause your skin to furrow. The resulting dynamic lines eventually contribute to persistent lines. As a neurotoxin, XEOMIN works by temporarily blocking signals between your nerves and muscles, causing the muscles to relax and minimizing their ability to contract. This allows lines and wrinkles to smooth out naturally when your face is at rest and prevents muscles from moving in a way that deepens creases. After your treatment, you should start noticing changes within 2-3 days, with optimal results showing within a week. Your XEOMIN results should last for 3-6 months. JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel JUVÉDERM® XC is a new U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved version of the effective JUVÉDERM dermal filler. Like the original JUVÉDERM, JUVÉDERM XC is a smooth-consistency gel that, when injected, restores volume to the skin, and smooths away moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. JUVÉDERM XC, however, contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to minimize the mild discomfort sometimes caused by the injections. As a result, this new JUVÉDERM formula eliminates the need for a topical anesthetic, as well as the up-to-30-minute wait for it to take effect. The lidocaine in the injection takes only seconds to spread across the treatment area. Results may last 6 to 9 months and, in some cases, up to year. However, additional touch-ups may be needed to maintain optimal results. JUVÉDERM Voluma® Injectable Gel Juvederm Voluma™ is a new, FDA-approved dermal filler formulated specifically to add volume to the face around the cheeks and chin. This is the only injectable gel created to provide a subtle, natural enhancement to the mid-face, addressing changes in definition that occur over time. Juvederm Voluma can help restore more youthful contours by plumping up the area that so often loses volume as part of the aging process. It can also return a firmer shape to the jaw line when some softening has set in.
