A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a facial plastic surgery procedure that can turn back the clock and transform a person’s life, but not all facelifts are the same. Many plastic surgeons still use the old-fashioned approach, which simply pulls the facial skin back and tightens it up, sometimes creating a distorted and windswept look. Furthermore, the results from this older approach only last a year or so, after which the skin begins to loosen back to where it was. To prevent this, Dr. Thomas Romo III, top facelift surgeon in NYC, developed a unique facelift technique called the endoscopic composite facelift, honed over his many years of experience. This approach has numerous advantages over other facelift techniques, including more natural-looking and long-lasting results, smaller incisions, and a more rapid recovery after surgery. Dr. Romo is a pioneer in the field of facelifts with more than two decades of experience in performing this procedure. He is the innovator of the endoscopic composite facelift, a modern, minimally invasive approach that utilizes smaller incisions, providing natural-looking and longer lasting results and dramatically reduced healing time. While refining his unique, minimally invasive endoscopic facelift technique, Dr. Romo worked with the world-renowned Karl Storz Instruments to develop his own line of endoscopic instruments that work with greater precision. These instruments are now globally distributed by Karl Storz and used by plastic surgeons around the world. Dr. Romo has written numerous books and book chapters on his unique facelift approach and frequently lectures internationally, teaching his techniques to other surgeons. Other physicians often refer complex facelift cases to Dr. Romo because of his renowned expertise and superior technical skills.

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery or a nose job, is a cosmetic procedure that is performed to change the appearance of the nose. Contemporary rhinoplasty has undergone several changes over the past two decades. Most rhinoplasty surgeries used to be performed as purely reduction surgeries; cartilage and bone were cut away and the natural skin would then “shrink-wrap” down to the smaller framework. In the past, however, too much cartilage and bone were often removed, which commonly resulted in noses that were too small, upturned, or looked pinched. Sometimes the nose job surgery would even interfere with the natural architecture of the nose and cause breathing difficulties. To prevent this, Dr. Thomas Romo III, top rhinoplasty (nose job) surgeon in NYC, developed a unique rhinoplasty technique called reduction structured rhinoplasty, which creates a natural-looking nose that maintains proper breathing function. Dr. Romo is a pioneer in the field of rhinoplasty, with extensive experience in performing many different forms of nose job procedure, including revision rhinoplasty and ethnic rhinoplasty. He also provides rhinoplasty for teenagers. Dr. Romo developed an innovative technique called reduction structured rhinoplasty, a breakthrough approach that does not over-reduce the nasal architecture. In addition, this approach involves strengthening the residual support structures within the nose through the grafting of septal cartilage or implants. Dr. Romo is currently in the process of working with the world-renowned Karl Storz Instruments to develop his own line of endoscopic instruments for rhinoplasty that work with greater precision and provide more natural results with less downtime. Dr. Romo has written numerous books and book chapters on his unique rhinoplasty approach and frequently lectures internationally, teaching his techniques to other surgeons.

Revision rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult operations to perform and a plastic surgeon must have extensive experience in treating nasal deformities before operating on patients. Over the last two decades, Dr. Thomas Romo III, the best revision rhinoplasty surgeon in NYC, has performed hundreds of successful revision rhinoplasty surgeries on both men and women using a combination of natural and artificial implant materials. Revision rhinoplasty, also known as a revision nose job, is a second rhinoplasty following a first (or primary) rhinoplasty. The need for a revision rhinoplasty is usually the result of excess cartilage and bone being removed from the nose during a primary rhinoplasty. As the nose heals following surgery, the nasal skin “shrink-wraps” around the remaining nasal architecture. With a weakened nasal structure, the nose often becomes distorted and misshapen with ski-slope bridges, pinched nasal tips, retracted nostrils and compromised nasal breathing capability. During primary rhinoplasty procedures performed by Dr. Romo, these undesirable outcomes are avoided due to his unique rhinoplasty technique called reduction structured rhinoplasty. Dr. Romo is a pioneer in the field of rhinoplasty, with extensive experience in performing many different forms of this procedure, including revision rhinoplasty and ethnic rhinoplasty. He also provides rhinoplasty for teenagers. As revision rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult operations to perform, surgical experience and surgery outcomes are essential factors to consider when selecting your plastic surgeon for this type of procedure. Dr. Romo has performed hundreds of successful revision rhinoplasty surgeries over the past two decades, using a combination of natural and artificial implant materials. Dr. Romo is currently in the process of working with the world-renowned Karl Storz Instruments to develop his own line of endoscopic instruments for revision rhinoplasty that work with greater precision and provide more natural results with less downtime. Dr. Romo has written numerous books and book chapters on his unique rhinoplasty approach and frequently lectures internationally, teaching his techniques to other surgeons.

An ethnic nose job is a cosmetic procedure that is performed to change the appearance of the nose in a person of ethnic descent, such as an African America rhinoplasty (African American nose job) or Asian. This type of nose surgery is significantly different from the widely known traditional rhinoplasty that involves nose reduction (taking away bone and cartilage), typically among Caucasian individuals. Ethnic rhinoplasty involves nose augmentation (adding cartilage and structure) for individuals who are looking to correct a flattened nose, flaring nostrils, or other ethnic characteristics. Candidates for this type of surgery may be of African American background, Asian (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino) heritage, or Latin American or Hispanic ethnicity. Dr. Thomas Romo III, is a top ethnic rhinoplasty surgeon in NYC, who has developed a unique augmentation technique that utilizes natural tissue and safe porous implants to produce a nose that appropriately matches the face shape and ethnicity of each individual patient. Thomas Romo III, MD, FACS is one of the most experienced and respected plastic surgeons for ethnic rhinoplasty in the world, known for his meticulous minimally invasive surgical techniques and for achieving natural-looking results with a shorter recovery period. As a world-renowned innovator in surgical methods as well as an inventor of new endoscopic instruments for facial surgery, Dr. Romo’s practice draws patients from New York City, across the United States, and internationally for all of their surgical and non-surgical facial cosmetic needs.

An eyebrow lift is a facial plastic surgery that corrects and rejuvenates an aging brow line for a more youthful-looking appearance. Top NYC plastic surgeon, Dr. Thomas Romo III offers a unique brow lift called the endoscopic eyebrow lift, which has many advantages over other eyebrow lift techniques. Dr. Romo’s endoscopic eyebrow lift utilizes a sequence of surgical techniques that produce a natural, youthful and rejuvenated appearance without endangering the eyes or eyelid function. Dr. Romo’s techniques deliver aesthetically attractive results with less downtime than a facelift. Here’s an overview of what you can expect during an eyebrow lift: An eyebrow lift can take 1-2 hours (when performed as a single procedure), depending on the complexity When performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as blepharoplasty, the surgery time may vary A temporal lift is often incorporated to further reduce “crow’s feet” and “cheek bags,” also called festoons You will be given an anesthetic so you will not feel any pain during the procedure After surgery, your forehead and brow area may feel tight and sore Depending on the type of stitches used, sutures may be removed in 3‒5 days or stitches will dissolve on their own Recovery and potential downtime can range from 10‒14 days Scars are minimal and located within the hairline to conceal visibility

Blepharoplasty is the technical term for eyelid surgery, which may be done on either the upper or lower eyelids or both at the same time. As the eyelids age, the supporting soft tissue and skin weaken, causing the upper eyelid creases to diminish and fat pads to appear on the lower lids. Eyelid surgery is also popular to help create a more youthful and rejuvenated look for Asian patients. Based on the treatment plan and specific needs of the patient, Dr. Romo will surgically correct either the upper or lower eyelids, starting by removing any excess skin. There are two basic approaches to the lower lid blepharoplasty procedure. The appropriate technique will be determined by both Dr. Romo and the patient. The external approach, also called a skin-muscle approach, removes skin and fat pads The more conservative internal approach, called a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, removes the fat pads only All incisions will be made along the natural crease lines so any scarring will be virtually invisible. Most eyelid surgeries for Asian eyelids create a crease in the eyelids where there is none; this surgery is done for both eyes. Here’s an overview of what you can expect during a blepharoplasty: An upper or lower blepharoplasty can take 1‒2 hours (when performed as a single procedure), depending on the complexity When performed in conjunction with other procedures, the surgery time may vary You will be given an anesthetic so you will not feel any pain You may have some swelling and bruising after the procedure The day after the procedure, cold eye gels can be applied to help reduce swelling After surgery, the eyes may temporarily feel sticky, dry or itchy Depending on the type of stitches used, sutures may be removed in 3‒5 days or stitches will dissolve on their own Eye drops and sterile ointments may be recommended to help keep the eye area clean Recovery and potential downtime can range from 10‒14 days, although most patients can return to work in about a week Scars are minimal and located along the crease line to conceal visibility

Neck lift surgery, known as submentoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that can be performed to create a more youthful-looking neck and jaw line. In many patients, the neck shows aging before the rest of the face, particularly among women, because their skin is thinner and they have a lower blood supply in this region. An aging neck may warrant treatment in order to keep its youthful appearance. Dr. Romo’s neck lift utilizes liposuction to eliminate excess fat, platysmaplasty to tighten the neck bands, followed by the removal of loose skin. Depending on the patient’s desired results, Dr. Romo may recommend other procedures along with a neck lift, such as a chin implant or lower facelift. Here’s an overview of what you can expect during a neck lift: A neck lift can take 1‒2 hours (when performed as a single procedure), depending on the complexity When performed in conjunction with other procedures, such as a facelift, the surgery time will vary You will be given an anesthetic so you will not feel any pain during the procedure After surgery, your neck may feel tight and sore You may have some swelling and bruising after the procedure You may be advised to sleep with your head elevated for 1‒2 weeks Depending on the type of stitches used, sutures may be removed in 3‒5 days or stitches will dissolve on their own Recovery and potential downtime can range from 10‒14 days Scars are minimal and hidden behind the ear to conceal visibility When a facelift is performed in combination with a neck lift, any potential scars will be minimal as well, located along the ear creases and into the hairline to conceal visibility and keep the hairline natural-looking

Also called genioplasty, chin enhancement surgery improves contours of the chin, jawline, and neck. Genioplasty provides a permanent solution to improve a weak or recessed chin, help reduce the appearance of a “double” chin, as well as improve a rounded face and neck. In most cases, the surgery involves placement of an implant around the patient’s existing chin bone, which augments the size and shape of the chin to achieve a natural balance in facial features. It can also balance the appearance of a large nose or fleshy neck. Chin implants may be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial procedures such as a rhinoplasty, facelift, etc. Prior to the procedure, Dr. Romo will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for the surgery, as well as any medications you may need to have in advance. During the procedure, you will be given local or general anesthesia, dependent on your preferences. The chin implant is then placed through a small incision underneath the chin, causing just minimal scarring. This approach also prevents any possible movement of the implant in the future. The chin implant is placed directly against the jawbone with your skin and tissue covering, so when touched, it will feel completely natural. Following surgery, the incision is closed with sutures, and the chin may be bandaged.

Ear reconstruction surgery is a cosmetic ear surgery that is performed to change the look of a patient’s external ears, either due to undesirable physical characteristics or a congenital deformity. There are two main types of reconstructive ear surgery: otoplasty and microtia surgery. With otoplasty, Dr. Romo designed a unique technique that uses a skin flap behind the ear, which allows for complete exposure of the ear cartilage and a more predictable result when suturing back the cartilage. This procedure avoids a common problem with traditional otoplasty that results in over-pinning, resulting in subsequent flaring of the ears called “telephone deformity.” During microtia surgery, a new ear or portion of an ear will be fashioned using rib cartilage or porous implants and then attached where the natural ear should be positioned. If the patient’s condition is also associated with hearing loss, a bone-anchored hearing aid can be implanted under the skin during the procedure. Here’s an overview of what you can expect during otoplasty or microtia surgery: The procedure will last from 2‒3 hours, depending on the complexity You will be given an anesthetic so you will not feel any pain during the procedure Results can be seen immediately A light dressing is put in place after the surgery, which usually remains for one day After surgery, the patient will be given a ROMO-GUARDTM to protect the new ear(s) Recovery and potential downtime can range from 10‒14 days, although adults can usually return to work in about a week The surgery is done in the fold of skin behind the ear, so there is no visible scar

Otoplasty is cosmetic ear surgery that is done to change the look of the ears. It may be performed to correct ears that are too big, are oddly shaped, or stick out. Adults who have always had “big ears” are never too old to consider otoplasty to change the appearance of their ears. For parents who are looking for otoplasty for a child, Dr. Romo also specializes in this type of procedure for pediatric patients.

Microtia is a congenital deformity affecting the outer ear. The ear does not fully develop within the first trimester of pregnancy. A microtia ear is often smaller in size than normal, can have a peanut-shaped appearance, have only a small nub or lobe present, or be completely absent altogether. Microtia can affect one or both ears. Microtia occurs in 1 out of every 7,000 to 8,000 births. Males are affected more often than females. There are approximately 755 million people living today with some form of microtia. Microtia is often associated with reduced hearing or hearing loss.

Facial implants use biocompatible implants to fill facial deficiencies and create a more defined and contoured facial structure. Although a chin implant is the most frequently requested facial implant surgery, Dr. Thomas Romo III also performs cheek implants, jaw implants, and temple implants, as needed. Aging results in a downward shifting of the facial fat pads, as well as a loss of facial fat volume. In addition to facial implants, Dr. Romo can use fat repositioning, fat grafting, and selective liposuction to restore a youthful face.

Chin augmentation, also known as genioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that is done to correct a chin that is too small. This simple operation can build up the chin and improve the overall facial balance. Chin implant surgery may include liposuction of the neck to achieve a more defined jaw line. A chin implant may also be done at the same time as a lower facelift. The need for augmentation of the chin can be determined by using special measurements called cephalometrics. Using cephalometrics to assess a patient’s facial structure involves visualizing a straight line extending from the forehead to the chin. If the patient’s actual chin is tangential to this vertical line, the chin is considered normal. If the patient’s chin does not align with the forehead, it is sometimes referred to as a “weak chin.” Some patients may have had dental work to correct what is called malocclusion, but the dental work alone does not correct the look of the jaw line, and sometimes it actually creates a displeasing position of the jaw line. The addition of an extended chin implant will camouflage a poorly projecting chin.

There are three general shapes to cheek implants. The technical terms are: malar, submalar, or combined. Malar implants, the most common shape, are placed directly on the cheekbones. The result is more projection to the cheekbones, providing a higher contour to the sides of the face. In contrast, submalar implants are not placed on the cheekbones, but rather they are intended to augment the midface, especially if a person has a gaunt or sunken appearance in this area. Combined implants (both malar/submalar implants) are used when implants are needed to augment both the midface and the cheekbones.

Jaw implants can strengthen the jaw line and create a more balanced facial silhouette by augmenting the lower jaw, also known as the mandible. A wide variety of patients can benefit from this procedure, including those with abnormal, deficient, or surgically altered jaw anatomy. Jaw implant patients are often males, who perceive a wider, lower face to be desirable. Other patients want more definition and angularity to their jaw line, especially if they have dental overbite or malocclusion. Implants that augment the anterior jawline mandible back to the perpendicular portion of the jaw can achieve this.

Non-Surgical

Botox is an FDA-approved treatment for wrinkles that is injected into facial muscles to target one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet – repeated muscle contractions in the face. Muscle contractions occur constantly with facial movements including frowning and squinting. Botox is consistently one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed each year. If you are considering Botox, it’s important to understand that while it is not a surgical procedure, having Botox injections done at a salon or other non-medical environment by someone who is not a board-certified professional is not advisable. Radiesse and Voluma are FDA-approved dermal fillers that are used for smoothing wrinkles and plumping up areas of the face that have lost volume with age. Children

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery or a nose job, is a cosmetic procedure that is performed to change the appearance of the nose. Rhinoplasty for children is not appropriate until the child’s nose has reached full maturity, which is usually around 14 years old in girls and 17 years old in boys. Rhinoplasty is the most common cosmetic surgery performed among American teens. Contemporary rhinoplasty has undergone several changes over the past two decades. Most rhinoplasty surgeries used to be performed as purely reduction surgeries; cartilage and bone were cut away and the natural skin would then “shrink-wrap” down to the smaller framework. In the past, too much cartilage and bone were often removed, which commonly resulted in noses that were too small, upturned, or looked pinched. Sometimes the surgery would even interfere with the natural architecture of the nose and cause breathing difficulties. To prevent this, Dr. Thomas Romo III, the best rhinoplasty surgeon for children in NYC, developed a unique rhinoplasty technique called reduction structured rhinoplasty, which creates a natural-looking nose that maintains proper breathing function. What results can rhinoplasty for children achieve? Rhinoplasty for children may be used to: Reshape or resize a large or non-symmetrical nose (also known as reduction rhinoplasty) Refine the shape of a nose Remove a bump in the nose Straighten a twist in the nose Change the angle between the nose and the mouth Correct birth defects or nasal problems that affect breathing Correct a nose or facial fracture from an injury or accident Correct a broken nose that was not set properly, resulting in asymmetry Build up the size of a small or flat-shaped nose (also known as augmentation rhinoplasty or ethnic rhinoplasty) Depending on a patient’s needs and desired results, Dr. Romo may also recommend another cosmetic surgery in conjunction with a rhinoplasty, such as a chin implant, in order to help balance the facial proportions. In some cases, a rhinoplasty may also be performed at the same time as a medical surgery, such as surgical repair of a deviated septum (called a septoplasty) or surgery for severe or recurring sinus disease.

Otoplasty is cosmetic ear surgery that is done to change the look of the ears. It may be performed to correct ears that are too big, oddly shaped, or stick out. Dr. Romo specializes in otoplasty for children and also performs the otoplasty surgery for adult patients as well in NYC. What results can otoplasty for children achieve? Otoplasty ear surgery for children may be used to: Change ear shape and protrusion, allowing for a more natural appearance Make one or both ears more proportionate to the size and shape of the head and face Pin back the ears Reduce the size of the ears or make them more symmetrical With otoplasty for children, Dr. Romo designed a unique technique that uses a skin flap behind the ear, which allows for complete exposure of the ear cartilage and a more predictable result when suturing back the cartilage. This procedure avoids a common problem with traditional otoplasty that results in over-pinning, resulting in subsequent flaring of the ears called “telephone deformity.” Here’s an overview of what you can expect during your child’s otoplasty: The procedure will last from 2‒3 hours, depending on the complexity Your child will be given an anesthetic so he or she will not feel any pain during the procedure Results can be seen immediately A light dressing is put in place after the surgery, which usually remains for one day After surgery, the patient will be given a ROMO-GUARDTM to protect the ears Recovery and potential downtime can range from 10‒14 days The surgery is done in the fold of skin behind the ear, so there is no visible scar

For the past 25 years, Dr. Thomas Romo III has been dedicated to advancing microtia surgery — a corrective procedure that constructs ears for children born without them, working with both adults and children who come to see him from all over the world. What results can microtia surgery for children achieve? Microtia surgery for children may be used to: Construct a new ear structure using rib cartilage or porous implants Create natural-looking ears on one or both sides of the head Implant a bone-anchored hearing aid under the skin to correct hearing problems (when necessary) Microtia surgery is an option for children who are at least 5 or 6 years old, as reconstructive ear surgery is usually not advised until a patient’s ears have finished developing. Dr. Romo is a recognized expert in treating ear problems and deformities and has been performing groundbreaking surgical techniques for more than two decades. Reasons for undergoing pediatric microtia surgery may include: Construct natural-looking ears to treat pediatric patients who are impacted by this congenital birth defect Improve hearing for patients with atresia (hearing loss) commonly associated with microtia Enhance facial appearance and balance Help a child gain confidence and self-esteem in his or her facial appearance
