I joined Club Pilates a few years ago during one of the most challenging periods of my life. I was dealing with ongoing health issues, going from one doctor to the next, with no clear answers and no end in sight. One day, I needed to switch one of my Pilates classes, and a woman at the front desk kindly helped me find a class that fit my schedule better. I had no idea that such a small change would end up having such a profound impact on my life. That class introduced me to the best instructor I've ever had, Huma. What started as a schedule adjustment quickly became my Monday and Thursday ritual. Week after week, Huma helped me rebuild my strength, regain abilities I thought I'd lost, and restore confidence I wasn't sure I'd ever have again. Huma is knowledgeable, encouraging, genuinely invested in her clients and hysterical. She has played a huge role in my healing journey, and I am incredibly grateful that one small scheduling change led me to her. Huma is the real deal.

I have been going to Club Pilates Midtown East for over two years now, and I have absolutely loved every minute of it! Everyone is amazing (shout-out to Maureen, Huma, Lisa, and Jimena) and is always there to help and support you. This location in particular has done a wonderful job of building a community around Pilates. It is more than just a workout; it is a space that you know will always be positive and welcoming. I am so lucky to have joined this studio, and I am even more thankful for the people whom I have met there along the way!

I just have to counter review the two negative reviews from today about the 1.5 class. Huma is a great instructor who cares deeply about everyone’s well being! Her constructive comments during class were based more on the fact that certain moves can cause injury if not done correctly. She corrected multiple people, including me, to make sure that we were being safe throughout the class. It was not personal, biased, or meant to be taken negatively. The girls were also talking very loudly and distracting others throughout the class! I absolutely love this studio and all of its amazing instructors.

Me and my friend attended a Level 1.5 class with instructor Huma and left feeling extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome.
Throughout the class, the instructor repeatedly emphasized that we did not belong in that level. We understand that different levels have different expectations, however we felt singled out in a way that was embarrassing and discouraging, especially since other students were also struggling with the movements.
I have previously taken Level 1.5 classes with instructor Maureen, and the experience was completely different. English is not my first language, but Maureen has always been patient, supportive, and welcoming. She helped me learn without making me feel out of place, which shows that language barriers do not have to prevent instructors from creating an inclusive environment.
After class, the instructor continued to express her dissatisfaction with our attendance and publicly wrote down our names, making it clear that we should not return to that level. The way this was handled felt humiliating.
We enrolled in the class based on the information provided, and we were unaware of any requirement for prior approval. The repeated comments about not understanding the “language” of Pilates and not belonging in the class left me feeling excluded rather than supported.
This experience was disappointing and has made me reconsider whether I want to continue attending this location.

Today, my friend and I had the unfortunate experience of attending a Level 1.5 class with instructor Huma, whose attitude made us question whether we should continue attending this studio location.
Throughout the entire class, the instructor repeatedly emphasized that we did not belong in that level, despite the fact that there were other students in the same class with a similar level of experience as ours. We felt singled out during the session, and after the class ended, the instructor continued to express her dissatisfaction with our presence, even though it had already been made abundantly clear during the class that she believed we should not be there.
We also noticed that other students appeared uncomfortable with the instructor’s behavior toward us, and one student even approached us afterward to offer support. What we find particularly concerning is that there is no information indicating that approval or prior authorization is required to enroll in this level. We registered for the class based on the information available.
In addition, other students were also struggling with the Pilates terminology and movements, yet the instructor repeatedly pointed out only us, stating that we were making mistakes and slowing down the class. At the end of the session, she publicly asked for and wrote down our names, making it clear in front of others that we should not attend this class again, which felt humiliating and very close to being expelled.
This experience left us feeling embarrassed, unwelcome, and unfairly targeted. It also raises concerns about whether bias may have played a role in how we were treated. We are not American, and the instructor repeatedly emphasized, both during and after class, that we did not understand the “language” and therefore should not be there.
We would appreciate it if this matter could be reviewed, as no student should be made to feel intimidated, humiliated, or unwelcome in a class they registered for in good faith.
