I went about a week and a half ago as a first-time customer with my sister. After entering and not being greeted or asked for help, my sister and I began looking for frames we liked. My sister had a question and asked Bee for help. She helped her find the style she was looking for, then turned to me and told me I was wearing the glasses I picked wrong. I told her that was okay. She proceeded to explain why I was wearing them wrong, and again I told her it’s okay with me as I’ve worn the same frame for many years and have never had any issues. I also told her it was a personal preference. She was not pleased with my answer and seemed annoyed that I didn’t take her advice that I did not ask for to begin with. After looking around and finding the frames I liked, I went to checkout with Bee. I tried making small talk with her to cut the tension and move on, but she was not having it. She cut me off as I was speaking and now with an attitude told me she doesn’t recommend the frame I picked and she already told me why. I told her that was okay with me. She did not tell me anything about the 30-day policy if I changed my mind as she did the previous customer. I received my glasses Sunday and went to a Warby Parker by my house. I asked if my eyes were centered and if the frame was okay for my face. I was told everything looked perfect and I was good to go.

Had a great experience at this Warby Parker location. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful — they took the time to help me find frames that actually suited my face shape instead of just pushing whatever was popular. No pressure, just good advice. The store itself was clean and well laid out, and the whole visit felt easy from start to finish. Would definitely come back.

Update: Best glasses I have had, both pairs. No doubt the service guaranteed I didn’t make a poor choice based on looks alone. I’ll go every time I visit the city.
Bee is extremely knowledgeable and her confidant explanations actually made the process easier. She eliminated frames I liked the look of because the prescription wouldn’t be optimized, and this kind of earnest, non-sycophantic service is appreciated. I can understand why other customers found her harsh, but I love assertive service backed by real knowledge.
Very much worth the stop if you’re considering a visit. There’s no online substitute for expert guidance, and the variety of styles is outstanding.
Adding that I’ve always been impressed by this ever evolving company and they blew my mind even though expected a lot 😘

I'm a Warby Parker customer, out of state, in the South. Wanted to like this place, especially given how much WP seems to pride itself on being friendly and welcoming, but my experience was the complete opposite.
From the moment I walked in to started browsing, I felt less like a customer and more like someone being watched. Every small movement seemed to attract attention. If I picked up a pair of glasses or adjusted my own eyewear while comparing styles, I got the distinct feeling that staff were monitoring me as if I might be doing something suspicious, It was deeply uncomfortable and made what should have been a simple shopping experience feel tense and unpleasant.
One thing that stood out was how staff (esp. the Af Am male staff with longish hair or braid, didn't catch his name (may edit later when I look at the receipt) repeatedly walked directly in front of me while I was looking at the displays instead of simply going around. Maybe that sounds small, but when it happens over and over, it starts to feel deliberate and intrusive. Rather than feeling helped or welcomed, I felt managed, scrutinized, and subtly pushed out of ease.
What made it worse was the contrast between the store's image and the actual experience. A place can advertise itself as warm and inviting, but that means very little if some customers (the locals or brown) are made to feel singled out while browsing. Good customer service is not just about being present --it is about making people feel comfortable, respected, and trusted in the space, which they are with the gentrifiers. I did not feel any of those things here.
No one said anything openly rude, which almost makes it harder to explain, but the overall treatment left a very clear impression. It was the kind of experience made up of repeated looks, unnecessary hovering, and a constant sense of suspicion. By the time I left, I was more focused on how closely I was being watched than on the eyewear itself. If the situation were reversed, BLM and NAACP would be holding a picket line in front of this store. But as long as they are the ones doing the stereotyping I guess it's fine.
Unfortunately, I did not leave feeling welcomed. I left feeling judged. For a store that claims to be friendly, that was especially disappointing.
