About Medical Weight Loss

Find out what medical weight loss is and how The Center for Medical Weight Loss can help you lose weight.

So, what is medical weight loss? Before discussing what it is, it probably makes sense to start with what it is not. Medical weight loss is not surgery or diet pills. It is physician-directed weight management based on medical scientific principles that target the root causes of obesity and weight gain to achieve and sustain a healthy weight in the long-term.

The tools that medical weight loss physicians use to help you manage your weight are very different from what you find with commercial programs. First, medical weight loss doctors use your metabolism and body composition (mainly fat percentage) as true indicators of weight loss progress. Second, they can prescribe safe, low-calorie diets that are specifically designed to help you lose weight while breaking the cycle of food addiction. And should you choose, your doctor can also prescribe an appetite suppressant for you. Finally, medical weight loss doctors have the ability to view your weight loss and maintenance within the context of your total health profile. If you have a condition that requires medication that may be interfering with your weight loss efforts, your medical weight loss doctor can consult with your primary care physician to prescribe a safe, effective alternative to lift those barriers.

Medical weight loss is designed to help any individual with his or her specific weight loss goals, whether to lose 100 pounds or those last stubborn ten pounds. Everyone is different when it comes to weight loss, but medical weight loss can be used to treat everyone.

What to Expect

If you’ve located your CMWL center and have made an appointment for your initial consultation, here’s what you can expect on your first visit. It’s just three easy steps to your CMWL personalized weight loss plan:

Your visit starts with the doctor asking for your medical history, including any prescription or over-the-counter medication you may be taking. It’s very important for your CMWL doctor to understand your overall health when designing your personalized plan.

The doctor will ask you to step on a special scale that will give you a total breakdown of the percentages of fat, muscle, and water in your body. Your resting metabolism and blood pressure will also be taken. This gives your CMWL doctor a baseline of where you’ll start your weight loss plan.

Finally, your CMWL Doctor will review your medical history and BCA results, and then will sit down to get to know you. This is the time to open up about your weight loss goals and challenges, and what you truly want to get out of a weight loss plan. In order for your CMWL Doctor to design your personalized plan, he or she needs to get to know the whole you. At the end of your visit, you'll have a plan, personalized just for you! If you decide to move ahead with your personalized weight loss plan, you’ll not only be following a medically proven weight loss approach, but you’ll be building a relationship with your CMWL doctor, who will be your greatest support throughout the process. If you haven’t scheduled your initial consultation yet, Find A Center near you now. Initial consultation fees start at $19. Call your local center for more information.

I have been attending LIWLI in East Meadow for a year and a half now. The fees are the reason why I am no longer attending. They will charge you $30 to simply step on a scale. When you hit under a BMI of 25 they will no longer accept your insurance and you need to pay out of pocket for every session which comes to over $130. Again this is just for a simple appointment. That is NOT including the actual weight loss medication. Today I found a $130 charge to my card from this facility. I called and spoke with I believe Vicky. I asked why my card was charged with no warning or notice. They stated it was for a missed appointment 2 months ago? This was incredibly shady and I have never had a doctors office do that to me before. It seems like any way they can make a buck off you they will. Super disappointing they treat long time patients this way.

I started with this clinic on July 2025,the people who helped me to get on the glp 1 medication was very helpful, including the dr that I spoke to over zoom call,he was very clear on his instructions on how to take the injection,I got approve through care credit for the injections and the program lasted for 6months,as the six month expired I reached out to this clinic to see if the injections are affordable and they weren’t which is why I had stopped taking the medication,Well as of two days ago I reached out to see if anything has change with the clinic and a nice lady,I forgot her name Told me that the wegovy pills are selling for $139 and she schedule me to come in for Thursday June 18th,so I just so happen to call back today to see if they have me down for Thursday and what time should I get in,all of a sudden they can’t find my file and for them I didn’t register at all, these women were so nasty to me,I didn’t like their tone at all and not helpful in anyway! It’s a lucky thing I don’t know their name, because I would’ve called them out.To be honest his is the first I’ve ever been treated with such desrespect, the First Lady who answer the phone act as if she didn’t want to be there or do her job,the other one is calling me a liar telling me I never register with them and it’s the wrong clinic! This just pisses me off because I was looking to coming there on Thursday! I may not know their name but I don’t forget their voices,I already don’t like them and I don’t think they cared enough to help me and this is why I gave the reviews a one star because of those two women! Nasty individuals hiding behind nursing scrubs.
