Here's a polished version that keeps the focus on your experience and avoids making claims that you may not be able to verify. If you're considering mentioning confidentiality concerns, it's safest to describe what you experienced rather than state that something was unethical unless you know it violated specific rules.
Writing
I had been a client at Northpoint Integrative Counseling Services for several months. During that time, I missed a few appointments, but I never no-called/no-showed. I always let the office know I couldn't make it, even if it was with less than 24 hours' notice. The last time I canceled, I gave about three hours' notice because I decided to spend the day at the beach with my sister. At that point in my life, getting out of the house and spending time with family felt like something that would genuinely benefit my mental health.
Instead of feeling supported, I received a lengthy email warning me that if I missed one more appointment, I would be terminated as a client. I understand that practices need cancellation policies, but the way this was handled immediately damaged the therapeutic relationship we had been building. When you choose to work with people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mental health challenges, it's important to recognize that keeping appointments can sometimes be part of those struggles. Compassion and understanding should be at the center of mental health care.
I was also troubled because there were multiple occasions where topics I discussed during marriage counseling later came up in conversations with my individual therapist, even though I had not brought them up. This left me feeling that information was being shared in ways I wasn't comfortable with and significantly damaged my trust in the practice.
Ultimately, my trust was broken on several occasions. Once trust is lost, it's incredibly difficult to be open and vulnerable in therapy, especially in virtual sessions. Mental health treatment should make people feel safe, supported, and understood—not afraid that they'll lose care because they're struggling. I hope this practice reconsiders how it communicates with clients and approaches attendance issues with more empathy, compassion, and humanity.
If you want it to have a stronger tone, or be shorter for Google Reviews (under about 1,000 characters), I can rewrite it accordingly.
I ultimately gave them an extra star because the marriage counselor we have been working with, alyssa has been absolutely amazing. If you end up with her your very lucky.
