The professionals at national seating and mobility not only made me feel comfortable when I came in. He made me feel as though I was as important and respected as much as any celebrity. The world would be a much better place if more people held themselves to the same standards as the folks who interviewed me. I am grateful to be able to have the opportunity to thank those who treated me so well in such a time of need.

Hey National Seating & Mobility! Did you forget all of the promises you made to call us back?
Do not use this company! My 7 year old has been waiting for a new seat for his wheelchair for months! Mean while he is in pain daily but they do not care. It takes months and months to get any repair done. The worst company I have ever worked with,I don't even know how they are still in business

Absolutely the worst company (as a healthcare professional) I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH! They give false timelines, install faulty equipment, take a year to get parts in and let Medicaid approvals expire even when they have the parts to installs. Absolutely terrible!

Absolutely deplorable customer service and follow up. Albany NY branch (not Clifton Park ). When I started the process to get my son’s power wheelchair it took a bit but at least the ATP and office was responsive. Early 2023 I started the process of replacement parts and a new battery. I called for weeks and could not get anyone to answer the phone nor return my call. I physically showed up at the office to get a response. You know it’s bad when a coworker/technician AND staff from the Clifton Park office indicate I’m not the first person frustrated with the lack of response/follow up.
Finally got an ATP out to my home in May 2023 (after a prior no call no show appointment). Appointment was for a replacement seat cushion, wheels, casters and battery.
Beginning of August, technician shows up with just a battery. I was LIVID!! Where was the rest of the order?
Reached out to ATP/business office and was told the order for the other parts was overlooked and they would put a rush on it.
I had additional questions for when the replacement parts come, I have emailed 3 times with NO RESPONSE.
Because of the deplorable customer service, I went with another vendor for an ETAC Molift patient lift. The technician of the competitor mentioned he knows the ATP and reputation of NSM and has been hearing ALLOT of negative reviews as well. I have given MANY opportunities for the Albany office to be responsive. Unfortunately, the ATP is the branch manager, so there is really no one to escalate my frustrations to. I did fill out a survey and I’m hoping someone from corporate will reach out to me.
** UPDATE ** 5/30/2024 a year later and I'm locked into this branch since my son has not yet grown out of his wheelchair. We started the process to grow his chair and order a new tray September of 2023. I took delivery on the parts to grow the chair March of 2024. The tray was on back order and finally a tech came out to the home 5/06/24 the tray was the WRONG SIZE?? The tech said he would bring the wrong tray back to the office to rectify and reach out to me the next day. The next day came and went with no follow up. I emailed the local office 5/11/24 for a follow up. I emailed again 5/28/24, no response. I called the local branch 5/30/24, no answer (I did not leave a message because over the years I never received a follow up call. EVER). Unfortunately, I have had to escalate my request for a follow up. Often I'm asking for clarification (information that can't be obtained looking on-line). If the local branch is working on rectifying the tray issue and I am reaching out for additional info I expect a follow up call or email. Example: Hi Stacey, yes I see the tray did not fit, I'm sorry about that. We need to come out to the house to re-measure, when will your son be home? OR it looks like manufacturer made a mistake and we've asked them to re-make the tray and this is how long the process should take, you can follow the process under the old order number or here is the new order number. The issue I have is ZERO follow through, I have to reach out MULTIPLE TIMES. For the record, the young lady helping the branch from Rochester NY has been great at trying to answer my questions and following up, unfortunately she is at the mercy of the local branch for information in order to properly follow up. There is a big disconnect. I truly thought things would get better from last year. It has not.
** UPDATE 8/30/24** I finally took delivery on the tray for my son’s powered wheelchair. One month shy of a year!! I do understand something was messed up with the order whether it was the local office, measuring it incorrectly or the manufacturer making it correctly. In addition, they may have been some items on back order. HOWEVER, my main frustration is the lack of communication, transparency, and follow through on every single order that I have to place. The only time I get any resolution is if I escalate my issue to corporate and or physically go into the office and/or make my presence known to get things done.
Frequently Asked Questions About National Seating & Mobility
What makes NSM the preferred choice for obtaining mobility solutions?
At NSM, we are uniquely positioned to search hundreds of sources for the precise components needed to create a chair that is made specifically to meet the needs of each client. Each chair can be designed for maximum comfort and ease and will provide the specific therapeutic benefits prescribed for you by the health care team. But what really sets NSM apart is our approach. We work from the heart, honoring your journey of independence with efficient, friendly attention that puts your interests first. This is our life’s work—to help others move through life—and we take it very seriously.
How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
