I recently made an eye appointment at the Lens Crafters’ location in the Newport Mall. The staff members were pleasant and the Dr. answered all of my questions. Afterwards, I used my new prescription to purchase a pair of Oakley sunglasses with transition lenses. The salesperson was knowledgeable and seemed happy to help me with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this location if you need an eye exam or a new pair of glasses.

My first major issue here was a mix-up with my order. I chose black frames, but my prescription was put into the wrong pair. I had to point out the error after taking the time to pick up my glasses and was told it would take another two weeks to fix, so I kept the incorrect pair because I couldn’t wait any longer. Accidents happen but the day I selected my glasses, I was there for a while, making sure we were all aligned to avoid any mixups and yet there we were.
Since then I’ve stopped in a few times just for basic cleaning and adjustments, and the service has been inconsistent. One visit I was told it would take over an hour to see if anyone could even help me and to come back another day. I had to explain how inconvenient that was and I was ultimately able to get help (if I hadn’t said anything I would have been dismissed and have to come back another day, convenient for them, inconvenient for the customer). Another time, I was told no one was available (wasn’t in the mood to have to plead again, so I left).
My most recent visit 4/30/26 at roughly 3:30pm was the most frustrating. The associate at the front desk was nice and directed me to someone in the back. When I asked for an adjustment and cleaning, that employee there immediately and repeatedly told me, “we don’t do that here,” in a dismissive tone even though I kept explaining to her that that was absolutely not true. There was no attempt to clarify, offer alternatives, or explain that the appropriate staff member might not be available. I was being brushed off rather than helped.
I later spoke again with the front desk associate who explained that the person who normally handles adjustments wasn’t there at the time—which would have been completely understandable if it had been communicated that way from the start. Instead, I was given incorrect information and treated dismissively. The experience gave the impression that they simply allow employees to operate how they please at this store instead of correcting them. Adjustments and cleaning, unfortunately for them, are part of LensCrafters services so a customer should not be made to feel as if their request is a waste of their time. I wish I had gotten the employee’s name, (looks like she’s one of the optometrist or someone who assist them) as that interaction stood out for the wrong reasons.

Marianne at LensCrafters was amazing! She tightened my sunglasses perfectly after they kept falling off my face. Super friendly, helpful, and professional. We even realized we went to the same college! lol. Great experience and excellent customer service!
Taking your child to an optometrist for an eye exam is the best way to learn if your child needs glasses. Many children who need glasses aren’t aware that they do. Signs of vision problems in children include sitting too close to the television, squinting, sensitivity to light, difficulty with eye-hand coordination, and avoiding visual activities like reading and drawing. To see if your child needs glasses, schedule your child’s eye exam today.
Is a contact lens exam different than an eye exam?
A normal, comprehensive eye exam will allow your optometrist to determine if your eyes are healthy enough to wear contact lenses. During your contact lens fitting, detailed measurements of your eyes will be taken to determine the right contact lenses for you. There is an additional fee for a contact lens fitting and evaluation for all contact lens patients (both new and established patients). Schedule your eye exam today to have all of your questions about contact lenses answered.
What is the difference between an eye exam and a vision screening?
A comprehensive eye exam is administered by an optometrist and can detect not only vision problems but problems with eye health and general health as well. A vision screening is typically performed by a general medical practitioner such as a pediatrician or a nurse. While a vision screening can help identify vision issues, it can miss many important issues that a comprehensive eye exam can identify. This is why everyone is encouraged to get annual eye exams. Schedule your eye exam today!
Why should I get an eye exam?
An annual eye exam involves more than just updating your glasses or contact prescription. A comprehensive eye exam can also detect eye health issues as well as general health problems. Conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be detected in early stages through an eye exam, and this can result in early treatment. Schedule your annual eye exam today.
What should I bring to my eye exam?
You should bring your vision insurance and medical insurance information to your eye exam. If you currently wear any prescription lenses, bring your eyeglasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses. You should also bring any and all questions you may have. Contact your optometrist if you have specific questions about any additional items you think you may need to bring to your eye exam.
