  My experience at Friendship House was extremely negative, and in my opinion, the counseling staff seriously need to be reevaluated. The counselors do not come across as people who are actually interested in counseling or helping residents succeed. Instead, they gossip about clients, judge residents, and act more like correctional officers than counselors. The environment felt much more focused on controlling people and looking for reasons to discipline them than actually helping people in recovery. I genuinely believe some of these counselors need to be fired and replaced with people who are actually qualified, professional, and capable of treating residents with basic respect. When you're supposed to be helping people rebuild their lives, having staff members who gossip about clients and form opinions about them before even giving them a fair chance is completely unacceptable. In my case, I felt like certain staff members had already decided they didn't like me and had a preconceived opinion of me before my situation was even fairly considered. I was eventually kicked out, and afterward I learned that people at other sober-living facilities had already heard about what happened because someone connected to Friendship House had discussed my situation with them. That was extremely concerning and made me feel like my privacy had not been respected. Whatever the applicable privacy rules are, residents should be able to expect their personal situations to be handled confidentially and professionally. Friendship House is supposed to help people in recovery, but based on my experience, the counseling staff need major changes. Hire counselors who actually counsel, who don't gossip about clients, who don't treat residents like criminals, and who are willing to give people a fair chance instead of judging them from the start.
