I was impressed with the selection of eyeglasses. Holly was a great help in suggesting and locating styles I would love. She also provided options to keep me within my budget.

I scheduled an appointment to be seen on 6/17/26 at 6 pm for a routine eye exam so that I could buy new glasses. As I was filling out the intake forms I noticed that the form for a retinal scan did not offer an option to decline the test, which is not covered by insurance, and so I politely asked the receptionist if I could decline this since I did not see a need for it. She said that they were going to “take the pictures no matter what” and then turned around. I then asked her if I could still be seen. The other receptionist said that I could, but then the first receptionist said “no, he can walk away”. I was shocked at this rude response to my question. I then asked if I could speak with their manager or optometrist since I was being refused for a medical examination by a receptionist. They then got their optometrist to speak with me and he told me that there was no declining the retinal exam. I am a medical doctor and I know that is not true. You cannot legaly force a screening test on anyone. The appropriate thing to do is to have a patient sign a paper stating that they decline a test. Why did I decline this? Because I am healthy, have no significant medical history, have no visual symptoms, or any other problems that would put me at risk for developing retinal disease. There is a reason why insurance does not cover these tests for the entire population and that is because you will have to test thousands of patients before you find ONE abnormality, which does not make this a cost effective test. Not only that, but most times the “abnormalities” they find end up needing further more expensive tests just to find that it was nothing at all. This is the equivalent of me ordering a brain MRI to every patient who comes in to my clinic “just to make sure you don’t have brain cancer”. Ultimately this is all corporate greed and a way for them to make easy money from patients that don’t know any better. In the end the optometrist offered to waive the fee but explained that next year I would have to pay for this same pointless exam. At this point I walked away on principle. I will find another eye clinic that has good morals and stands for their patients and not corporate greed. I will be checking this situation with my lawyer.

I had such a great experience at lenscrafters today. I went in worried that I had a contact stuck in my eye, and even on a busy Saturday they were able to get me in and have me seen quickly. The doctor and the lovely lady Destiny at the front desk were both incredibly kind, patient, and reassuring throughout the entire visit. I truly appreciated the care and compassion I received. I was beyond grateful to be in and out in nearly no time, especially with how anxious I was walking in bc I work nights and needed to sleep. The experience was so positive that I ended up scheduling a follow-up because I definitely want to get new glasses and contacts through them. Thank you again for making a stressful situation so much easier!

Frequently Asked Questions About LensCrafters

How do I know if my child needs glasses?

Taking your child to an optometrist for an eye exam is the best way to learn if your child needs glasses. Many children who need glasses aren’t aware that they do. Signs of vision problems in children include sitting too close to the television, squinting, sensitivity to light, difficulty with eye-hand coordination, and avoiding visual activities like reading and drawing. To see if your child needs glasses, schedule your child’s eye exam today.

Is a contact lens exam different than an eye exam?

A normal, comprehensive eye exam will allow your optometrist to determine if your eyes are healthy enough to wear contact lenses. During your contact lens fitting, detailed measurements of your eyes will be taken to determine the right contact lenses for you. There is an additional fee for a contact lens fitting and evaluation for all contact lens patients (both new and established patients). Schedule your eye exam today to have all of your questions about contact lenses answered.
