I normally don't share experiences like this publicly, but I feel it's important to speak up. My delivery experience at River Oaks was incredibly disappointing and, honestly, traumatizing.
During my pregnancy I seen Dr. Hood a total of 3/4 times. During my first cervix check he let a med student examine me without even asking me for permission. Mind you I am a first time mother this is my first pregnancy it was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. After the student said she couldn’t find my cervix he proceeded to state we are just going to assume she is closed and it’s still sitting high without even going back behind her to check. I ended up at st. dominic the following morning b/c I had been leaking fluids down below. He asked me around 35 weeks have we talked about induction mind you I have not seen this man since my 20 week appointment. I told him no and I do not want to do an induction. Hiz exact words were “why have you been watching to much TikTok”. He still proceeded to dismiss me and said we will come back to this next week, we will need to go ahead and get you on the schedule for induction before it’s too late.” Mind you I had a healthy and unproblematic pregnancy. He said studies show that is best to go ahead and induce to prevent risk of c-section. Which I ended up having a c-section anyways because my baby was not ready to come out and the nurses would not let move around to progress thr labor. I expressed that I felt that he was doing this because my due date was the 23rd of December and as a first time mother I was most likely going to reach my due date and he didn’t want to risk having me in the hospital on Christmas. He treated me and my boyfriend as if we had no common knowledge. Felt discriminated because we were a young black couple. He made serval unprofessional comment towards my boyfriend during labor and even while I was laying on the OR table with my insides on to table. He acted as if I was not conscious even if i wasn’t this was completely unprofessional.
Dr. Hood was arrogant and unprofessional. Will never go back.
During my stay, many of the day nurses I encountered were rude and lacked compassion during one of the most vulnerable times in my life. My experience with Dr. Hood was especially upsetting. It felt like it was his way or no way at all. I was not given options, my concerns were not truly heard, and his bedside manner was nonexistent. Before I was discharged, he did not even properly check my incision. In fact, he never came past the curtain, nor did he acknowledge or even look at my baby before sending us home.
I was there for four days, and only three nurses made a positive impact on my experience. They were all kind, compassionate Black women who treated me with dignity and care. One appeared to be a new hire, following another nurse, yet she showed more empathy and professionalism than most of the staff I encountered during my entire stay.
Childbirth is a life-changing experience, and every mother deserves to feel respected, supported, and cared for. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at River Oaks.

Dr. Hood is absolutely the best! I had an amazing experience throughout my entire pregnancy and delivery. Every appointment both Dr. Hood and Datche always took the time to answer my questions and ease any worries I had. With them I always feel heard and genuinely cared for. When it came time to deliver my baby Dr. Hood was very calm, supportive, & incredibly skilled. In such an important moment I was especially so thankful I chose him as my doctor. he took amazing care of me. He truly has the best interest of both you and your baby’s safety at heart. I’m so grateful for the care I received and will definitely continue to use him for any future pregnancies. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Hood and his team to anyone looking for a compassionate and knowledgeable OBGYN. They played such an important role in bringing my baby into the world, and I’ll always appreciate that!! I seriously could not have asked for a better doctor.

Dr. Hood is the best! Extremely professional and charismatic. For most women this kind of doctor is very intimidating. I left feeling confident. It is awesome to have a dr that I am confident in his knowledge and desire to help me! I can’t forget to mention how talking to him about issues or showing things to him somehow comes with ease. Thank you Dr Hood!!
