I'm feeling very mixed about this office right now.
When I get there, the receptionist is nice and everything goes smooth checking in and filling out necessary forms as a new patient.
Then I got taken back. The Medical Assistant seemed nice, but she was distracted. She asked height and weight, then immediately asked again. That's fine, everyone makes a mistake every so often. She asks the rest of the questions and leaves.
Something about this office is that they don't close the doors all the way, and you can hear the other people outside the door talking about what Pt is in what room and what they're there for.
Dr. comes in, she asks if I want the procedure, then leaves. It was quick, yes. But I can understand the efficiency, I have a simple case, and she has other patients there she needs to see. (I knew that because I could hear the staff telling her which other patients, she needs to see).
Mind you, I don't know what this procedure entails, I don't know if there's risks, I just know that someone is coming in the numb me up.
The same medical assistant as before comes in, and asks me if we're doing both feet, and when I say yes, she yells out the door down the hall that she needs the other syringe, too. He comes and gives it to her, and they talk while she continues to prep me. He leaves, and then my medical assistant asked me if she's wiped the site down with alcohol yet.
...That isn't my job to know. But she did, and I knew she did, so I told her yes.
Then she wipes it down with iodine, she's not talking to me during this, so I ask if it's iodine, and she says, "Yes, are you allergic?"
That might have been helpful to ask or look in my chart before you apply it... (I wasn't allergic, I was just curious what she was doing)
She finishes prepping me, I wait for the Dr. again. During this, I can hear the staff yelling at another staff member that he needs to go numb someone up.
Dr. comes in, she's great, procedure gets done, I get follow up instructions, I leave. That's the end, right? Wrong.
I look at my chart later that night to read the after-visit note.
It says that the risks, benefits, and details of the procedure were discussed to me in detail. I was there, and that did not happen.
It also talks about my Dorsiflexion and Plantarflexion and that I scored a 3/5 and a 1/5 respectively. I have no idea how those numbers were obtained because it wasn't tested at all. Quite literally all that was manipulated was my toe/toenail, not my ankle. It also said to follow up in 2 weeks, I wasn't told that by anyone there. The note had after-care instructions, great, except for the after-care instructions are different than the paper I was given earlier in the day.
Anyways, I know this is long, but I wanted to share my experience. I'm not writing this office out yet, as the patients I could hear (from my room that had the door open) seemed really happy with the staff and their care. I made an appointment for 2 weeks from now and will talk to my doctor about my chart then. I'm just disappointed that this was my first experience with the office, because everyone seems nice there.
