No provider showed up for my appointment! I made an annual eye exam appointment online weeks in advance and when I was called to confirm the appointment, the person on the phone notified me that the visit would be telehealth, meaning I would be in person but the provider would not be. My appointment time was at 5:30 pm and I arrived 10 minutes early. After waiting for more than 20 minutes for a provider to come on the screen, I was told that there was no provider available to finish my appointment. I had already done all of the tests and just needed a provider to interpret my results and give me the prescription. In fact, the tech told me that the providers are supposed to stay on until 6:30 pm, so there is absolutely no reason why there was no doctor available. This is completely unacceptable. When you go to the doctor, you expect a doctor to be there. The tech told me to expect a call from the manager the next day. I never received a call and had to call several times to get ahold of her. When I did finally speak to the manager, she explained that the third-party company who hires out their providers did not notify Pearle Vision that one of the providers was unavailable. I understand that, but to be faced with no apology, no accountability, and a rude attitude within that phone conversation with the manager was frustrating. The lack of timely follow-up, apology, or accountability from management just demonstrates a complete breakdown in customer service and responsibility on Pearle Vision’s part. Further, the manager told me this is not the first time they have neglected to notify Pearle Vision when a provider is out. So, even though the manager completely attributed the issue to a third-party provider failing to notify them of an absence, Pearle Vision is still partially responsible for ensuring reliable patient care. Patients schedule appointments through Pearle Vision, not the third-party provider, and expect that a provider will be available at the scheduled time. The fact that the manager acknowledged this has happened before indicates an ongoing, known issue that has not been properly addressed. Continuing to rely on an unreliable partner without implementing safeguards (like backup providers) reflects a failure in operational oversight. This whole experience was unacceptable and a waste of time. Just be aware that Pearle Vision has an unreliable provider base and you should consider taking your care elsewhere. This situation was absolutely ridiculous and could be dangerous for some patients if they are unable to receive prompt, reliable care.
