Good luck getting a hold of anybody - at least for repairs. After being on hold for 40 minutes yesterday, I left a message for a callback. Still no call by the afternoon so I'm on hold again trying to get a hold of someone - just so I can get a part for a wheelchair. Good thing we aren't travelling with it and stranded while we wait.
I tried calling a local number, but apparently it routes to a national call center, and they then have to transfer me to the local branch. They do not allow you to call the local branch directly at all.

I got a motorized chair approximately a month ago, and 3 days ago a third of the front caster wheel just broke off in a big chunk. I managed to get it home and called to get it repaired, and was informed that the wheels on the wheelchair are not covered by the warranty. To get a replacement wheel (that they said they might not have in stock)they need to get a note from my doctor and I have to resubmit my insurance info. Then current time estimate for it to get approved and replaced is toward the end of August. No biggie, I guess I don't need to leave the house for a month and a half. Pretty disappointing, NSM.

These companies are hilarious & I feel as if being disabled they just love working for us to be paid so greatly by insurance…. They don’t even do their job correctly I got a new wheelchair after being evaluated at the Mayo Clinic and after receiving the new chair it was nothing like it was supposed to be just showing the rush of a job they did to be paid by insurance after completing the chair and then me of course having to call them to come fix their job and then of course charge insurance for their mistakes…..

Waited on hold all day just to find out they closed while I was on hold. They don’t call back when you leave your number to reserve your que in line, I’ve had battery issues twice in 1 year, how is someone who uses a wheel chair because I can’t walk, wait for weeks to have a simple service performed?!? This is abuse!
Frequently Asked Questions About National Seating & Mobility
What makes NSM the preferred choice for obtaining mobility solutions?
At NSM, we are uniquely positioned to search hundreds of sources for the precise components needed to create a chair that is made specifically to meet the needs of each client. Each chair can be designed for maximum comfort and ease and will provide the specific therapeutic benefits prescribed for you by the health care team. But what really sets NSM apart is our approach. How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
