Formerly MN Alternatives, the MHR SUD Program is a person-centered/harm reduction-based outpatient treatment program for those experiencing substance use disorders and mental health concerns. The essence of harm-reduction is that treatment meets active substance users ''where they are" in terms of their needs and personal goals. Thus, a harm reduction approach embraces the full range of harm-reducing goals including, but not limited to, abstinence. We see small incremental positive changes as steps in the right direction. Although many individuals desire abstinence as their recovery goal, not everyone does. We believe that helping people take steps toward reducing their substance use and therefore Peer support services are also offered.
