The Best!
My loved one has had a positive experience with the Hazelden Betty Ford Minnesota program and likes the treatment. I’m giving 4.5 stars because of concerns about insurance and financial communication.
During his first stay, he was approached about unexpected costs within his first few days, despite asking that they contact me. Unfortunately, I was not contacted, and the added uncertainty contributed to him deciding to come home within a week. I recommend families to know the insurance criteria needed to cover this type of treatment, also assign a person handle financial matters and be prepared for coverage to sometimes be authorized in short 5–7 day increments.
Fortunately, he made the decision to return to Hazelden, and this time he has stayed and is now almost finished with this phase of the program. We are incredibly grateful to have gotten him back into treatment and are very happy to be getting ready to welcome him home. We know recovery is a process that will continue for months and beyond, but we feel much better prepared for that next chapter.
I especially want to recognize the counselors and care team. They have been compassionate, engaged, and genuinely invested in his recovery. They have helped prepare him for returning home and worked with him on a continuing-care plan. Their communication and support have made a meaningful difference for our entire family.
Overall, we are grateful for the care he received and for the progress he has made. I hope this review helps other families prepare for the insurance process while also recognizing the people at Hazelden who work so hard to support patients and their families.

If you have a mental illness like ADHD and haven’t been diagnosed prior to being admitted, you won’t be prescribed stimulants even if Hazelden’s physiologists diagnosed you with ADHD and recommends you be put on a stimulant.
The head female psychiatrist turned me down and was I was suffering with lack of concentration, focus, and many other symptoms of ADHD and didn’t care because I was self medicating with alcohol, THC, and cocain, to deal with ADHD
You pay a lot of money to stay at Hazelden and not a place to stay if mental illness is the root to your addiction. I witnessed first hand. The head psychiatrist doesn’t care if you need to be on stimulants and won’t start when she knows you need to be on them
I’ve finally been diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed stimulants and my life is much better being on them. I’ve not drank, used THC, or cocain since starting them and 7months sober
They have no problem giving you drugs several days after detox but won’t give mental illness persons the meds they really need
It doesn’t matter how many family members, friends, ect, tell them you should be on stimulants because of ADHD and recommend a place to be admitted that will diagnose mental illnesses and prescribe the correct medications to treat mental illness
I’ve been to Hazelden twice and it’s up to the head psychiatrist to prescribe meds, and both times she failed to listen and didn’t care how much suffering I had
Don’t waste your time with Hazelden if mental illness is the main factor for substance abuse and needs stimulants to manage.
Hazelden is a nice place to start recovering from drugs and alcohol, just not a place if you suffer from mental illness and trying to recover from alcohol and drugs

The reason I'm giving this facility 2 stars is that, overall, I've had a fairly good experience here. The staff are genuinely kind, the programs are decent, and there are plenty of activities to stay engaged.
The reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 5 is that nearly everything here is centered around alcoholism, while I came here for an opioid addiction. I wish there were more groups and classes focused on drug addiction. During the month I was here, I only attended four opioid-focused classes about one per week. The rest of the programming was primarily geared toward alcohol use disorder.
If you're struggling with alcoholism, this may be a great fit. But if your primary issue is drug addiction, especially opioids, you may want to consider a facility that offers more specialized support.

I had the wonderful opportunity to be able to recover at the Hazelden Betty Ford Clinic. They treat your addiction and mental health and that has been tremendously instrumental in my recovery. Every staff member at this facility is kind and cares about your recovery journey. There are so many activities to do outside of groups. The campus is beautiful. I would highly recommend choosing this facility. They have so much to offer and you will not regret starting your recovery journey here!
