We know cancers run in families. That’s why it is very important to know your family history. Just like high blood pressure and diabetes, cancer can be hereditary. your doctor can not only optimize your management, he or she can give you your best chance against a cancer diagnosis. Women’s Excellence offers comprehensive genetic testing to assess your risk for a variety of cancers and diseases. What can genetic testing tell us? Your genetic test results will help us assess your risk for: Breast cancer Ovarian cancer Cervical cancer Colorectal cancer Endometrial / uterine cancer Gastric cancer Pancreatic cancer Melanoma Are you a candidate for genetic testing? To see if you qualify for comprehensive genetic testing to assess your risk for certain diseases, please complete our hereditary risk assessment. Your results will be sent to our team to determine if you qualify for the genetic blood test. How do you get tested? If you are a candidate for genetic testing, Women’s Excellence will take a small sample of your blood or a saliva sample and send it to the laboratory for analysis. It’s that easy!

When you have a high-risk or complicated pregnancy, your doctor may recommend you see a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist (MFM) throughout your pregnancy. Your MFM Specialist will work collaboratively with your regular obstetrical team for an added level of support – and an extra layer of safety – for you and your baby. Unlike most ob/gyn offices that refer patients to an outside office or hospital for MFM services, Women’s Excellence now offers dedicated clinical and consultative maternal fetal medicine services to patients within the practice. Our patients and their babies will now have greater access to specialty care closer to home! What is an MFM specialist? MFM doctors, also called perinatologists, are OB/GYN doctors with advanced fellowship training in the diagnosis and management of complications in women and their unborn babies. When pregnancies are considered high risk, there is a greater chance that the baby or mother will experience problems, such as preterm labor or preeclampsia. Why do I need an MFM doctor? If you have a high-risk pregnancy, chances are good you’d benefit from seeing a maternal fetal medicine specialist. These doctors are obstetricians who have three additional years of training in helping women through high-risk pregnancies. Women with a history of heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, seizure disorders, autoimmune diseases, blood clotting disorders, or infections will benefit from the expertise of a MFM doctor. What can I expect from my MFM consultation? We do a detailed review of your medical and pregnancy history, review any outside records from your OB/GYN or other medical doctors, and perform an ultrasound exam of the fetus. You’ll discuss all this information in detail with your MFM doctor, and they will work with you to make a plan of care for the remainder of the pregnancy and possibly for your delivery. We use a team approach and the latest treatments to help our patients manage complicated or high-risk pregnancies!

Gynecology Services Comprehensive gynecology services are the bread and butter of patient care at Women’s Excellence. There is no need to wonder “is there a gynecologist near me that does more than annual exams?”, because at Women’s Excellence, our providers are equipped to handle the most complicated gynecologic concerns, as well as routine care. Our gynecologists provide services to women of all ages beginning at adolescence. What is a gynecologist? A gynecologist is a doctor that focuses on female reproductive health. Most women begin seeing a gynecologist during their teenage years for routine exams. A gynecologist helps women with concerns including pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, sexually transmitted diseases, and more. Where can I find a gynecologist? You’re in luck! Women’s Excellence has gynecologists at 4 different locations in Southeast Michigan. Our offices are located in Clarkston, Lake Orion, Lapeer, and Royal Oak. What services does a gynecologist provide? At Women’s Excellence, our gynecologists provide a multitude of services to the women in our community including: Annual exams / Pap smears Breast exams Sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing and treatment Birth control options including the pill, intrauterine devices (IUD), the Depoprovera shot, and the Nexplanon implant Pelvic pain Heavy menstrual bleeding Irregular periods Painful cramps Endometriosis Vaginal infections like vaginitis and bacterial vaginosis Infertility concerns Hormone imbalance Menopause Decreased sex drive Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) diagnosis and treatment Bladder care including urinary leaking, overactive bladder, bladder pain, and bladder prolapse Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) Minimally invasive surgical options Frequently Asked Questions Do you have a female gynecologist near me? Yes! In fact, we have both female and male gynecologists at all 5 of our locations. Read more about our team of physicians. Why do I need to get an annual exam? It is important to attend your annual exam each year. Your pelvic organs are not visible on the outside of your body and it is important to get a thorough examination on a yearly basis to identify things that are unseen and could be treated simply if found early. However, your provider will determine if a pap smear is necessary at the time of your visit. At your annual exam, your provider will conduct a breast exam to identify if there are any lumps in the breast or any visible breast changes. Your provider will also do a pelvic exam which involves a visual exam of your genitalia and an internal exam of your vagina and cervix. This will help identify issues such as genital warts, herpes, yeast infections, uterine fibroids, and more. A pap smear will also be done during your pelvic exam (if applicable) to help identify any cervical abnormalities that could indicate cervical cancer. Your annual exam is also a great time to discuss any other questions and concerns you may have including birth control options, bladder issues, pre-pregnancy questions, and weight issues. What happens if my pap smear comes back abnormal? An abnormal pap smear is actually very common. An abnormal pap smear means that your test came back positive for abnormal cells on your cervix. This does not mean that you have cervical cancer! Depending on the type of abnormal results you receive, you may need to have further testing done. Additional tests include a colposcopy and/or biopsy. During a colposcopy, your provider will exam your cervix with a bright light to get a better look at the suspicious area. At this point, your provider may or may not take a biopsy of the area for further testing. Do you offer weekend appointments? Yes! We offer select appointments on Saturdays from 8am-12pm at our Royal Oak office. Our goal is to make your visit comfortable and informative. If you’re looking for a gynecologist near me, have questions about our gynecology services, or would like to schedule an appointment, visit our live chat located at the bottom of your screen. Our patient support specialists are available Monday-Friday 8am-5pm to assist you. If our live chat is not available, here are other ways to contact us.
