Board-certified dermatologists such as those at MDLSV Institute specialize in the treatment of acne. Prescription topical and oral medications are usually very helpful. We also offer treatments for acne that use light to destroy acne-causing bacteria in the clogged oil glands and help to unclog the oil glands. The Aesthera PPX™ and Aesthera Isolaze™ are painless, quick, and effective treatments that clear acne while improving your skin overall.* Isolaze™ treatments combine a gentle vacuum with therapeutic broadband light to help rid your skin of acne-causing impurities.

Fortunately, treatments are available to help for benign skin growths. These in-office procedures include cryosurgery (freezing), “snipping”, shave removal, and laser destruction. A consultation will help determine the best treatment plan. Please note that results from this treatment may vary. Please contact our office to see if you are a good candidate for benign skin growth treatments.

Treatment options for cellulite include lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise and a healthy diet, which can reduce the appearance of cellulite by lowering body fat and improving muscle tone. Professional treatments include different types of laser therapy, which can break down fat deposits and stimulate collagen production. However, it’s important to note that no treatment can completely eliminate cellulite, and results may vary.

There are many different treatment options available to reduce wrinkles. Botox Cosmetic® helps prevent and improve them by targeting the underlying muscles. Laser resurfacing rebuilds collagen and reduces wrinkles. Fillers and other skin tightening techniques can also help including Aquagold Fine Touch, Cutera Excel V, Hydrafacials, Radiesse, and more.

Eczema, also known as dermatitis, is a skin condition characterized by itchy, red, and dry rashy skin. These symptoms are caused by inflammation. Some eczema, such as atopic dermatitis, is long-term and chronic, typically appearing in children. Other types, such as contact dermatitis, are caused by an allergic reaction to a substance that has come in contact with the skin. Eczema cannot be cured, but needs to be managed chronically. Occasionally, changes to a patient’s skin care routine are all that is needed to maintain clear skin. Flares and poorly controlled eczema can be treated with medicated ointments or creams. Antibiotics may necessary if there is concern for infection. Similarly, bleach baths or vinegar water soaks may be used to prevent infections. Treatment involves moisturizers and specific prescriptions to combat the inflammation and other symptoms. Talk to one of the doctors at Maryland Dermatology Laser Skin and Vein Institute to learn more.

Superficial blood vessels can develop on almost any part of the body. On the face, fine red and blue lines can commonly develop as a result of sun damage, rosacea, heredity, injury and aging. Veins cans also appear as unsightly red and blue spidery webs on the legs and chest. Fortunately, treatment can usually help. Light and laser treatments and sclerotherapy are very helpful for enlarged blood vessels.

Female urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine in women, often resulting from weakened pelvic floor muscles, hormonal changes, or certain medical conditions. It can occur during activities like coughing, sneezing, or exercising, and may also be triggered by a sudden, strong urge to urinate. This condition can vary in severity and significantly affect daily life, but it is manageable with treatments and lifestyle adjustments. If you have urinary incontinence that you believe is related to weak pelvic muscles or neuromuscular control of these muscles, please contact our office for a Hunt Valley Emsella consultation to see if you are a good candidate for the treatment.

Freckles and blotchy pigments as well as brown spots and Actinic Keratosis (AK) occurs gradually over time with sun exposure and aging. Numerous treatment options are available to remove these signs of aging and produce smooth, healthy appearing skin. The right therapeutic skin care regimen is very helpful. Chemical peels, laser treatments, and microdermabrasion are professional options that can reduce pigmentation by removing the top layers of the skin and encouraging cell turnover.

When we frown for any reason, we gather the tissue between our eyebrows into a fold. In some of us, our facial expressions can cause a chronic furrow. Frown lines can get etched into the skin even at an early age. This can produce a worried, discouraged, angry look on our face. Frown lines are a common sign of aging, but you don’t have to just accept them. There are treatments available that can help improve the appearance of these common signs of aging. Fortunately, Botox injections are very effective at softening these lines. Other botulinum toxin products include Dysport and Xeomin. If the lines are very deep, the addition of an injection of hyaluronic acid helps to “fill” the frown lines further. We sometimes will use a combination of these treatments to get the best result. We can also use a laser to smooth out the skin and help improve the results of the Botox injection.

Severe underarm sweating is a medical condition known as severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis, which involves overactive sweat glands. Hyperhidrosis can also affect the hands and feet. Excessive body sweating needs medical evaluation before treatment begins. We treat our Baltimore Hyperhidrosis patients with injections of Botox® Therapeutic, which is very helpful in controlling this condition.

Dermatoscopy and Mole Mapping can help to determine if a lesion needs to undergo a biopsy for diagnosis. The Maryland Dermatology Laser, Skin & Vein is the first practice in Maryland to offer “mole-mapping” by dermatoscope and computerized mole photography. This is an important breakthrough in the management of patients with “atypical moles” and family history of melanoma and skin cancer. The advanced Fotofinder (use link) from Germany allows us to more accurately track changes in moles and determine when to biopsy.

Surface treatments don’t target the deeper layers of skin where the laxity originates, and surgery can be painful and invasive. At MDLSV, we offer many non-surgical non-invasive treatment options to tighten and lift skin on the neck and under the chin, like Ultherapy.

Nose to mouth lines, also known as nasolabial folds, are the creases that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. They become more prominent with age due to the loss of skin elasticity and volume. There are a wide variety of treatment options at the Maryland Dermatology Laser, Skin, and Vein Institute to treat these folds, including fillers such as hyaluronic acid Restylane™ Juvederm™, Radiesse™, and collagen products. Nonsurgical skin tightening procedures can also help.

Port-wine stains are vascular birthmarks that are red to purple colored marks on the skin. They are made of enlarged blood vessels. Severe port-wine stains can be associated with underlying neurologic or vascular abnormalities. Port-wine stains can usually be lightened with a series of laser treatments. Maintenance treatments may be necessary.

Are you bothered by facial flushing and blushing, persistent facial redness, inflamed pimple-like bumps, or burning and grittiness of the eyes? If so, you may suffer from Rosacea, an extremely common condition that affects an estimated 14 million Americans. We can provide you with a customized plan of gentle skin care and broad-spectrum sun protection, discuss the avoidance of certain triggers that can make your skin worse, and prescribe topical and oral medications. We can also recommend the type of light or laser treatment that can greatly improve the redness, flushing, and enlarged blood vessels of rosacea.

This is often referred to as sagging or drooping or thinning of the skin. Droopy jowls, crepey skin on the back of the hands, loose saggy skin on the elbows, arms, thighs, and knees are generally thought of in this category. The visible outer layer on the skin surface called the epidermis acts as a protective barrier. Underneath that is the elastin and collagen-rich tissue called the dermis. The subcutaneous layer below that is the fat layer, with a web of collagen fibers running through it. Naturally, treatments that work on just the surface can’t do anything to restore the collagen or elastic tissue in the under-layer, or the deep dermis of your skin. Fortunately, there are non-invasive treatments that can help many patients postpone invasive surgical tightening of the skin.

There are multiple ways to treat a scar including dermabrasion, chemical peels, collagen and cortisone injections, and laser treatment. The type of procedure will depend on the size and placement of the scar, as well as the overall health of the patient
