During a regular six-month appointment, children receive a gentle and thorough cleaning to help prevent cavities and promote overall oral health.

A thin plastic coating is professionally applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth to seal deep grooves and pits and prevent cavities. The application takes just a few minutes per tooth with no drilling, numbing, or needles, and can often be done during the same visit as a cleaning. Sealants typically last five to ten years and are checked at every routine visit so they can be reapplied if they chip or wear. The sealants used do not contain BPA.

A concentrated topical fluoride is painted directly onto the teeth during a routine checkup to strengthen enamel and lower the risk of cavities. The application takes about 60 seconds and is safe for infants and toddlers, starting as early as the first tooth. Most children receive it twice a year, though some benefit from more frequent applications based on cavity risk.

Emergency pediatric dental care for knocked-out teeth, severe pain, swelling, broken teeth, and abscesses. Same-day appointments are held for emergencies and parents are asked to call before coming in so the team can prepare and give guidance on immediate next steps.

Crowns are offered to protect a decayed or damaged tooth.

The practice holds a Class 1 Sedation Permit, one of only a select few pediatric dental practices in Maryland. For cases that call for general anesthesia, the team coordinates with pediatric anesthesiology specialists and local surgery centers. Treatment is scheduled on a separate day from the consultation.

Nitrous oxide, often called laughing gas, is a gentle way to help little ones feel calm and comfortable during their visit. At Frederick Pediatric Dentistry, it's a safe option for kids who feel nervous or need extra support staying relaxed in the chair. The effects wear off quickly, so children are back to themselves by the time they head home.

A liquid or pill taken by mouth before treatment keeps the child drowsy and relaxed but still able to respond to simple questions. It is a good fit for mild to moderate anxiety or shorter procedures. Both offices have a quiet sedation room with a couch and dim lighting for children receiving mild to moderate oral sedation.

IV sedation is used for more involved treatment, heavier anxiety, or children who struggle with lighter sedation. Dr. Mike works alongside pediatric anesthesiology specialists focused on the child's safety and comfort. Children are monitored throughout and rest in the recovery area until they are awake and steady.

A LightScalpel CO2 soft tissue laser is used to treat tongue-tie and lip-tie in newborns, infants, and children. Precision laser light removes the frenum under the tongue or upper lip to allow better range of motion, with very little discomfort and almost no bleeding. The laser sterilizes upon touch, reducing the chance of infection and stimulating healing, and no stitches or general anesthesia are needed.
