I’m disappointed to have to leave this review because during an incredibly frightening and vulnerable time for my mother and our family, compassionate care meant everything.
Unfortunately, our experience with Kayla P. was very different from what we expected. Both my sister and I independently felt uncomfortable with her bedside manner, communication, and overall demeanor toward our mother. She frequently came across to us as dismissive, defensive, inattentive, and lacking compassion.
My mother was frightened, agitated, and extremely vulnerable. During her care, Kayla P. discussed personal matters involving a dental appointment, and when her phone use came up, she defensively stated that she wasn’t doing personal things, had already spoken with her dentist, and was texting the doctor. I understand that nurses use their phones to communicate with physicians; it was the overall combination of apparent distraction, personal conversation, and the manner in which the concern was addressed that bothered us.
My mother also experienced approximately four episodes of liquid stool within several hours and was unable to tell staff when she had gone. Some episodes were significant enough that stool traveled down her legs to her feet. This was obviously embarrassing and distressing for my mother. Instead of feeling that the situation was handled with sensitivity and dignity, both my sister and I perceived Kayla P.’s demeanor surrounding it as irritated and complaining.
One of the most upsetting moments was when we learned that my mother had failed her swallow evaluation. Both my sister and I were struck by how unusually upbeat Kayla P.’s demeanor seemed while communicating this upsetting news. I cannot speak to her intentions, but I can say that the way the interaction came across to both of us felt insensitive given my mother’s condition and our family’s distress.
My mother was scared and agitated. I completely understand that caring for an agitated patient can be challenging, but I expected her fear to be met with patience, reassurance, professionalism, and compassion.
This wasn’t about one comment or one misunderstanding. It was the cumulative experience that left both my sister and me uncomfortable enough that I felt it needed to be documented.
I also want to be clear that this review does not reflect every nurse or staff member at the hospital. We encountered other members of my mother’s care team who treated her with kindness and compassion, and I am incredibly grateful for them. My concern is specifically with our experience with Kayla P. and the bedside manner we personally witnessed during an extremely vulnerable time for my mother.
I was admitted over the weekend from ER and as always everyone from ER staff, Dr Yang, Triage Nurse, 2nd floor staff and nurses especially Michelle & Rita, Surgeon, Ms. Graff, CT scan Techs, Housekeeping Services and Dietary and the list goes on. I am so grateful to this hospital and the entire staff not just for this visit but for every visit. Bless you all.

Waited in a er room for,2 day’s in a chair , rude nurse, we met a wonderful cardiologist doc to do my dad’s surgery, but they lied switch doctors without consulting us.The er room floor had hospital waste on it everywhere. Absolutely horrible. You even heard nurses complain in the hall way. This place is so sad. Lies about the doctor doing the work. 2nd floor staff were great ER sucks if your family can make it go someplace else. I spent 31,years in the medical field, the are the worst . Who lies about the doctor doing the procedures and tells you after. Absolutely awful run as fast as you. Look at the god Damb reviews the are horrible. I think the violated ethical code by switching doctors without consulting us. The lawyers will figure that out

Scheduling a simple test is painful, especially with the vascular department. They wont let anyone else schedule the ultrasounds, so you call, the line is busy, they call you back the next day to find out they will only accept the order via fax since the ordering doctor is not in the UMD system and they can't upload to the portal. You fax the document, you call a couple days later to hear....we didn't receive any fax. You ask if you can just bring the orders in and nope, cant do that. So start the circular cluster all over.
