I visited Onelife Fitness in Clinton using their Free Pass because I wanted to see whether the experience was enough of an upgrade from my current LA Fitness membership to justify switching or adding a second gym membership.
For context, I’m an experienced gymgoer and have trained in everything from basic and mid-tier gyms to premium and luxury fitness clubs. Since Onelife positions itself as a premium, full-service fitness experience, that’s the standard I used when evaluating this location.
First, the positives: the gym was very clean and well maintained. The equipment didn’t look heavily worn, and it was obvious that cleaning is done consistently. The locker room was also clean, with towels, soap and the amenities I would expect. You do need to bring your own lock, which wasn’t an issue for me.
The gym itself is large, with cardio equipment toward the front, turf and functional training areas through the middle, and most of the free weights, Smith machines and strength equipment toward the back. There’s also an outdoor workout area that I unfortunately couldn’t try because it was raining.
I visited on leg day, which gave me a good opportunity to evaluate the strength equipment. There’s a decent selection, including a hack squat, but much of the equipment is Matrix with a few Hoist and newer machines mixed in. Nothing was wrong with the equipment, but it didn’t feel particularly premium compared with what I’ve experienced at other higher-end gyms.
My biggest issue was the layout. The leg equipment is scattered throughout the gym. You can have several leg machines in one area, then need to walk halfway across the gym for others, and then head toward the cardio section for additional machines. For someone trying to move efficiently through a workout, the flow doesn’t make much sense. I would expect a premium, full-service gym to have a more intentional equipment layout that allows members to transition naturally between exercises.
I also visited early in the morning and noticed quite a few weight plates had not been reracked. I generally don’t blame gym employees for this because members should be responsible for putting their own weights back. However, I do think a premium gym should establish and reinforce a certain level of gym etiquette. I saw a few small signs reminding members to rerack their weights, so the expectation is there, but based on what I saw that morning, it doesn’t appear to be heavily reinforced.
Another small detail that stood out was the use of spray bottles and paper towel dispensers throughout the gym for cleaning equipment rather than disposable gym wipes. It gets the job done, but for a facility positioning itself above the traditional mid-tier gym experience, it felt a little dated.
Where the experience fell short for me was the Free Pass experience itself. At check-in, I entered my information on a tablet, provided my ID, and was essentially pointed toward the locker room, cardio area and strength equipment. I wasn’t looking for or expecting a full tour since I prefer exploring a gym on my own.
However, when I finished my workout and returned to retrieve my ID, I simply received it back and left. No one asked how my workout went, what I thought of the facility, whether I had questions, or if I was interested in membership options. I’m not saying I needed a sales pitch, but even a brief conversation would have made the experience feel more intentional and welcoming. If the Free Pass is designed to introduce prospective members to the club, that felt like a missed opportunity.
Overall, Onelife Clinton is a clean, spacious and well-maintained gym with a good variety of equipment. I didn’t have a bad experience at all. It simply didn’t give me a compelling reason to leave LA Fitness or pay for an additional membership. For a gym positioning itself as a premium, full-service fitness experience, I expected a little more attention to equipment layout, member etiquette and, most importantly, the overall guest experience.
This Gym never ceases to amaze me, but what stands out the most is the hospitality of the managers who exude a different level of passion for the place. They do an outstanding job of interacting with Gym members, very intentional inanimate about cleanliness of the facility, very great listeners, they don’t try to oversell things. They literally wait for you to tell them what you need and they Grant solution solutions to your problems. I feel very blessed to
Be a member here because of the amazing facility, but even more because of the atmosphere they’ve created. Thank you Kyra & Jasean. Those are the 2 managers that made it easy for me to proclaim one life fitness as my new fitness home.

I enjoyed going to this gym for over a year until an incident at the kid's club that left a bad taste in my mouth. My son was put in a corner, on the dirty floor, for I don't even know how long after an altercation where he defended himself from another kid being too rough with him while the other boy was allowed to play freely. I was not called on my mobile and didn't realize the incident occurred until I picked my children up. I was in the building and should have been notified immediately.
I thought it was addressed when I picked him up and was told it was documented and I asked a lot of questions. I handled the matter privately with my son.
I received an abrasive call from associate manager Jay who was incredibly rude. I'm cancelling today. Although the gym clientele and staff are primarily people of color, I sensed some inter-minority discrimination. It's off that two little boys misbehaved and the brown one was the one to get disciplined.
What once was a great gym with nothing but positive experience has turned into something I don't recognize. Not sure if it's management or patrons or comboi of both. Floors aren't cleared nightly so if you come in at 4 am(provided someone is there to open) then you must clean up prior to starting your sets. There is no monitoring on the floor so you have bootleg trainers, people just doing stuff on multiple machines that prevent usage and people removing equipment to use elsewhere for their shenanigans. If you are a novice or just like a pleasant gym experience, I highly recommend skipping this gym. On the other hand if you enjoy Tubi entertainment, this place has it, the drama, the mystery and the action.
I’ve been meaning to write a review about this gym for a while now, specifically about the Kids Club and the staff here. I’m honestly not someone who normally takes the time to write Google reviews, but when people consistently go above and beyond, I think they deserve to be recognized.
Moving here and not really knowing anyone, one of the hardest things for me was figuring out a workout routine where I could also feel completely comfortable and confident with the childcare for my four-year-old son. Onelife has truly become that place for us. We are here almost every day, and my son actually asks to go to the gym because he loves being there so much.
First, the front desk staff is amazing. They are always friendly, welcoming and quick to help with anything. What means even more to me is how they treat my son. They know his name, go out of their way to say hi, give him high fives and dap him up when we walk in. He gets excited to see them too. Those may seem like small things, but as a parent, they mean a lot. It feels like you’re walking into a place where people actually know and care about you, rather than just another gym where you scan in and leave.
The girls in the Kids Club deserve their own recognition. One of the first things I noticed was how consistent the staff is. They rotate, but it’s generally the same group of girls, which is so important when you’re dealing with young children. By probably our second visit, they already knew my son’s name. Over time, they’ve learned who his friends are, what he likes and how he interacts with the other kids.
There can be A LOT of children in there at once, and I’ve always been impressed by how well they keep track of everything going on. We’ve been coming here consistently and I have never picked my son up feeling like the room was chaotic or the kids weren’t being watched. If there is ever a small situation between children, they communicate it to the parents and explain what happened. They pay attention.
Something else I really respect is how appropriately they handle behavior. There is a fine line when you are caring for someone else’s child, but they do a great job of setting boundaries, letting the kids know what is and isn’t okay and redirecting them when necessary. They are kind and affectionate while still maintaining structure, and that balance is not always easy to find.
Most importantly, you can tell they genuinely care about the children. I’ve watched the way they interact with them since our very first day. They know their names, greet them with hugs, remember their friendships and make them feel comfortable. My son has made friends there and genuinely looks forward to seeing both the kids and the staff. I trust these girls enough that I actually asked one of them at one point if she babysits outside of work, which probably says more about my experience with the Kids Club than anything else I could write here. 😂
Even when there is a wait for Kids Club, the staff does everything they can to keep us updated and get us in as soon as possible. There have also been little moments where the staff has gone out of their way to include the kids or do something nice for them, and those things don’t go unnoticed.
As a parent, finding a place where you can work out and genuinely feel comfortable leaving your child is HUGE. Finding one where your child is actually asking you to take him back is even better.
There’s honestly too much I could say to fit into one review. I’m extremely appreciative of the front desk staff, the Kids Club girls and everyone who has made us feel so welcomed here. The consistency, kindness and genuine effort they put into creating that environment absolutely deserves recognition.
I wouldn’t think of taking my son anywhere else. He’s happy here, I know he’s being looked after, and because of that I can actually enjoy my workout without worrying the entire time.
Thank you to everyone at Onelife, and especially the Kids Club staff, for taking such good care of my little guy and making this feel like our gym. ❤️
