To make a long story short, there were obstacles to overcome and Ms. Kimberly Simpkins guided and assisted me through every obstacle until the end. Ms. Kimberly was professional, patient and empathetic. Ms. Kimberly Simpkins listened to my frustration as time grew longer and longer, daily she answered or returned my calls and shared details of the situation with me even though it was not what I wanted to hear. Today after an estimated six months have passed Ms. Kimberly Simpkins gave me the news that I had been waiting for “Your order has been approved “. National Seating & Mobility please recognize Ms. Kimberly Simpkins for her efforts. Many times management hear complaints and must address the concerns. Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
